The radials sound great at start-up and idle, but the 14-cylinder engines have a putt-putt'' sound in the air. The 7, 9 and 18 cylinder radials sound good though... Whereas the DB605 and Merlins (difficult to differentiate if you close your eyes and listen, as they have the same firing order). They sound okay at start-up but just great when they are flying. The Griffon has a completely different firing order and sounds gruff. Nice, but not as good as the DB's and Merlins. (this is only my opinion)! 🙂
I’ve always been partial to the Merlin series of engines. However, these all sounded great. I’m just sitting here thinking about how important these planes were to aeronautical history, and also at the same time world history. Must have been quite the experience to see all these IRL.
Awesome post. Thanks! Tante Ju started up real quick. A pity: wouldn't have minded to hear the motors longer. Spitfire: The Griffon sounds so strong without sounding loud. How quick it revs up shows the power.
The BMW801 sounds incredible. Unfortunately, the FW190 in that video has a chinese made M-82. Also, the Sea Fury probably has a R2800. This is not a Bristol Centaurus.
RR went along with Bristol and changed the rotation on the Griffon. All Bristol engines were the same. Out of step with every other engine manufacturer!
@@Slaktrax Thank you sir! I also learned from googling that RR and GE/P&W jet engines almost always rotate in opposite directions from each other. Interesting!
Check out the same rotation direction with the Airspeed Oxford, the Avro Anson, the (Moorabbin) Beaufighter, the Blenheim and the (original engine) Sea Fury. Funny why the RR Griffon changed rotation?
Great Video. I love the Hurricanes Sound ! Which is you favorite ?

Spitfire sounded so smooth, though maybe that's because we were hearing it from the front away from the exhaust?

Loved them all but the Supermarine Spitfire gave me a chill.
😂
Love that sound, especially the Griffon. Enough to make a grown man cry.
oh yes especially if you think of canceling it away by those recent ppl
@@Warbirds I don't understand. 😕

Sometimes you see a video that just makes you smile and say aahhhh..... Great compilation. 😊
Oh Thanks mate enjoyed
The Hurricane. Be nice to hear a Hawker Typhoon though... Only in my dreams
The silver dope finish on the Hurricane looks really good, the fabric looks more like aluminium than a real metal plane does.
that hawker hurricane startup, reminded me of the first part of the battle of britain movie, even the angle ligns up
Great 👍
Die alten Flugzeuge sind die schönsten.

ja in der Tat
No favorite engine sound 😊…in flight I do love the Merlin 😎
God dammit I can not get enough of these Real Engines = piston engines :)
Yes no turbo, no cats, pure Sound
Vielen Dank für dieses tolle Video. Mein Favorit ist die Spitfire. 😊
Wegen dem Motor ?

Correct expert 👌
Funny how the spit's props turn opposite from all the others.
