Another JRPG under the belt, and this time we’re delving in to Persona 5 Royal! I feel it's important to note that this is NOT a comparison between Vanilla P5 and P5R, this is a first time experience for someone new to the series. Also please note that there are MINOR SPOILERS confined to the first few hours of the game, and there is one more around 9 minutes into the video which will be spoiler marked with a time skip if you want to avoid it. Also, see if you can spot the misspelling while watching. Hope you enjoy it! :)
I think you said you didn't play Royal, but they added the feature that in Momentos if you where higher level then the Mob you could just run them over to get the EXP, Gold and Items. No longer having to fight each low level mob. Momentos was great for leveling up your char and persona fast.
@@mrannon Oh yeah for sure. I still hated it though. Compared to the other Palaces it felt lazy in design. Hold the dash button till you get to the next platform.
It was refreshing to hear thoughts from the perspective of a new persona player. I agree with you on most points and I hope you’re able to go back and try 4 Golden as it’s my favorite persona game. I’m a bit bummed you didn’t get to experience the extra Royal content during your playthrough! Happy to hear that you enjoyed your time with persona 5!
It's pretty insane that Golden is now on Steam. If I had the choice, all games I play would be on PC personally. I would have given P5R a second playthrough to get to the added content, but there's just too much on the list to dedicate another 100 hours. I watched it on YT though, insane how much high quality content they added.
Just opened the video to see this so I know it will be good. Futaba will never not be best girl. I went with makoto in royal due to hype but i wasnt about it. I just wanted to hang with futaba, or maybe with the new girl (forgot name, avoiding spoilers)
My phantom thieves edition is still sealed lol I just finished cold steel 3 with 100 percent and just started ys memories of celceta, I’ll eventually get to p5.
That edition of the game looked sick! Unfortunately I try to confine myself to buying L.E's only for Trails or I'd most likely go broke. I at least got the steel case though!
The Kiseki Nut the steel cases are the best thing about the collector editions (except for plushies or figurines), I can’t wait for cold steel 4 steel case.
Great video, was really well-organized and informative/entertaining! I kinda disagree about the chracters though (except Mishima, I thought he was gonna go full bad guy too!). I feel like theyre are all likable pretty much, but theyre all victim to over the top cartoon characters that have very little depth too them, rely on Joker to stroke the power fantasy thing, or the pacing of their stories is very meh because of the confidant system needing 10 ranks and the personality thresholds needed to advance certain story lines (at least you can see how much itll take to level up your, for example, charisma this time around since that wasnt in the base game). Im also not really sure what the game is trying to say with some of it's themes it touches on, if its really trying at all sometimes. Like Ann's whole arc flip flops between being one of female empowerment, to pressuring her to trick Yusuke with her looks, to her needing Joker to fix her modeling career dilemma since she uses her looks as a crutch for her self esteem and needs his help to maintain that confidance. Most female arcs in the game are like this, where it feels like the primary goal was to put them in situations to make them cute and vulnerable so Joker could romance them in 10 ranks, rather than making them feel like actual human beings that have lessons to be learned from their dispositions. Futaba is a favorite because she gets an entire palace to understand her as a person and gets a fairly realistic confidant arc with a cool hobby lol. Haru had potential to be more deleloped with her dad's palace being a focal point, and although she gets kinda rushed because the plot needs to move on and her confidant comes late in game, Id argue she's one of the most believable characters in the whole game because of the maturity in her story. Most women's arcs in Persona 5 play out like Makoto though, who has sad moments in her confidant arc, but all the events are rushed, personality trait gated, and dont mesh well together so the only lasting feeling for the player is just sympathy for her sad situation, and you can romance her while shes vulnerable and youre giving her a shoulder to cry on lmao. I could keep going, but yeah idk something about so many characters feeling like male romance/power fantasies needing to be saved over mature people really bothered me in my complete game playthrough, and its like a pretty sizable part of the characterization in a 100 hour game that kind of undercuts the main overarching theme of the main story. Its the same thing hurting the Cold Steel series for me with its shallow harem romances. I have other problems with the game, mainly concerning the convenient plot device that is mementos, but I think that superficiality of the women's stories in Persona 5 is what really stops me from saying this game has even a good story worth its long run time. The english translation of some dialogue didnt help that issue either I dont think. Loved the gameplay, music, style, voice acting, concept, and many other things though, so its a good turn your brain off and have fun game
If anyone is interested in music in the genre of the soundtrack, this genre is typically called acid-jazz and is popularly exemplified by Jamiroquai. For those who want another frame of reference, the song that plays when Napolean Dynamite dances is by Jamiroquai.
Interesting point on boss fights, Megami Tensei as a whole is more DPS related so having gimmicks is a nice mix up. As for the Okumura fight, it's really not as bad as people make it out to be. Those green enemies are weak to Psio and Eiga so you can pass the baton pass around with Curse items to increase the damage alongside Joker's Persona abilities to have either the AOE damage up by 50% or Weaknesses damage up by X amount you can play that boss pretty easily. I feel people tend to just see it as cheap when it's not realy

@@TheKisekiNut I bet it's Okumura's boss fight. While I feel it was pretty easy to get to him this time around in Royal in comparison to the original...I felt the boss fight was very hard...even harder than the original.

Now that I have one, I might wait for P5R to go on sale since while that game is very well made, some of the magic is lost since I know the whole plot.
Thanks for watching mate! When I initially moved out to Japan, my next door neighbour had the limited edition of the original. Never saw him play it, but I knew he was looking forward to it, so it peaked my interest. With the enhanced version, seemed like the perfect time to give it a go!

Royal is way better than the regular game for me. Just some of the gameplay mechanics and some other stuff they added just adds to the experience. I can definitely see your point, you're basically working to a set formula most of the time, but I was a big fan of the choices P5R gave to the player as to how they wanted to build their persona arsenal, and the various options it gave in combat. It always felt fresh to me from hour 1 to hour 95, and I think the confidants added to that. I've heard great things about SMT as well, and you're not the first person to recommend it to me, so I'll have to check it out in the future.
Lul if you hate mementos i can imagine your reation to tartarus on p3
I've heard mixed opinions about P3. I'll have to play P4G first before considering giving it a go though.
@@TheKisekiNut i'll envy your 1st playthrough, have fun!
@@TheKisekiNut Gameplay is rough around the edges, but it has the best thematic narrative. P5 and P4 borrow from it, but don't reach the same heights. P2 is even more around the edges, but its really, really good.
You mean BROjiro
no
I guess I am the only one who didn't likef it at all. After FE3H, this is the worst JRPG I've ever played. No hate though, I don't want to trigger any angry fans.
