I took a week off from work to play the base game last year. Probably would have done the same for Royal but since my country is under quarantine, I won't need to take a week off 😂
So I’m looking at Metacritic and so far it’s at a 96. Every single one of those reviews is saying that the new changes and additions easily justify buying it if you’ve already played the original. Naysayers may want to take notice. Just saying.
My friend let me borrow persona 5 and I remember I had around 110 hours when I beat it. I returned it and was so tempted to get my own copy when I saw it drop for $10. Then I told myself I can drink try hold off for the royal edition and here we are! So close, and cannot wait. It’s definitely worth $60
Can’t wait to jump into it. I actually started a second play through of P5 a month ago but decided to hold off on that since Royal is about to come out. P5 made me fall in love with video games all over again.
“Could be overwhelming for some” the base game release took me 110 hours and I missed stuff. This being longer is insane (in the BEST way possible right now)
it has some very slow stretched though. Thats one thing thats rarely mentionned in reviews (it's in my top 5 games on PS4 but god some parts are way too long).
@@timytimeerased the game also has repetive dialogue from time to time and not much character development in the main plot I love the game but it has issues
Persona 5 Royal has two new confidants that are high quality, the best boss in the game in my opinion, WAY better bosses Madarame wasn't nearly as good in the original game as he is in royal same with the other bosses, Akechi becomes a ten times better character thanks to his expanded confidant, the third semester always you to easily rank up all confidants even if you don't know persona inside and out(Like me), It has great endings where even the "Bad" ending could be argued as the actual good one, it expands romance confidants with the inclusion of White Day and if your single as a pringle you even get a new event with Sojiro, Combat went from pretty good but eventually kind of annoying to fast paced fun, the confidants like Hififumi and The Wardens got way better because their best abilities are first instead of last this is especially important with the Wardens because it always you to make awesome personas if you have spare cash, they had new books and fun activities, and give you way more time thanks to Morgana not telling you when to go to bed basically what I'm trying to say with this super large rant is that Persona 5 Royal is a masterpiece I give the original a 9/10 I give Royal a full 10/10 it's perfect and I cried when I finished it I really hope everybody who decides to get it feels the same.
Wow great to hear this ! I’ve been trying to watch/read as many reviews as possible to try and decide weather or not to get this. I played the original and absolutely loved it but have been hesitant a lot about this one as I felt it was essentially the game of the year edition but clearly not after some research. Is the combat that different then ? I like the originals combat is it changed a lot ? Had no idea it did that with the wardens either ! Thanks for the info.
@@Geo35z The combat isn't completely different just made much better with small and large tweaks for instance the baton pass can be upgraded and you don't need to rank up confidants to get it, Morgana/Futaba give you hints for shadow negotiations making it much easier to recruit shadows, Guns reload after you finish a fight making them more useful, the velvet room gets WAY more events and you get tons of abilities to, and mementos gets more music, the ability to instant kill lower shadows even without Ryuji's ability and a new NPC gives you extra challenges and tasks those are some of the big changes in my opinion also no problem I really want people to know how great this game is
Great review, got my collectors edition yesterday, got the original P5 collectors edition (and yes I finished it, took me just 2 years lol). Weird thing is I played P4 Golden and never got past 20 or so hours before I got a bit bored, maybe it's the characters but P5 touches me way more in its subject. I feel like some medias like to concentrate on the weaknesses of P5 (the beach scene for example) when theres so much depth in the rest of the game. I'm excited to see how much more they crammed into it, and all they fixed in terms of gameplay flow.
Was wondering if I should waste money on P5R since I played the original. After fumbling about on reviews and critics I was like ahh sod it so I got it just waiting for it to download can't wait as I'm in the mood for some good Persona!
I'm gonna be honest, I super rarely finish games, especially such long games (in fact, I think that p5 may be the longest game I've played besides zelda botw). But damn am I willing to play this again!! (even though I hate that my social stats don't carry over from my previous save lmao). The game just came today and I love that already in the first hour we have new stuff ahaha

I think it’s fair to acknowledge that when people say this could’ve been DLC, they’re more-so talking about the 3rd semester content. Having beaten the game already, I noticed there's an odd disconnect between that content and the original, and they don’t explain some pretty important things in regards to that content. I almost wish the third semester content had been a separate side story, similar to The Answer from P3 FES. Kasumi has been promoted as being a significant part of the game, yet she really doesn’t affect much in the long run, and her character could honestly be cut from the game and it would play out almost entirely the same. While I understand what they were trying to go for with her character, she still feels unnecessary and forced on several occasions, and I hate that she lacks relationships with the main party outside of Joker. The fact that she isn’t playable until 3rd semester also sucks, because it gives the player less time to spend with her, given that her time is very limited as is in the main game. I don’t think this game is bad per se, but I feel like a lot of the new content has been overhyped. A lot of the QoL changes are appreciated and I do like the new gameplay features/mechanics, but I wish they had done more in regards to fixing the narrative issues of the original. I think if this is your first experience with P5 at all, then it’s worth picking up. If you played the original, I think you might be better off waiting for a sale.
@@username15th Idk where you heard/saw that the third semester was 50+ hours of additional content, but its more around 20-25 hours. That's still a sizable amount of content for sure, but its definitely off from what you think. It took me around 30 to get through it all while also translating all of the dialogue and doing some excessive grinding at the end. I managed to complete all of the Mementos requests and Confidants in this run as well, including an optional fight added in the third semester, so it wasn't because I was skimming over content either. I don't want it to sound like I'm undermining the amount of content that was added, but what I played doesn't match up with your estimation.
@@CozmicKoala oh sorry. I heard from multiple people that it was 50 more hours at the end. But to me 25 hours is enough for me to get this game again. The only gripe I have with this game is playing base game again
