    I think this is why a lot of times a new fisherman gets “beginners luck” and hooks a steelhead. They don’t bring all the old habits that most of us carry and get focused on, and they just fish. With that said, there’s something about the confidence you have in different techniques and most of us are able to make that confidence tactic pay off in a lot of foreign situations. Great video guys.

      Good point! As anglers we definitely take past experiences and apply to each day...and...that can absolutely work against us from time to time. Ignoring what the fish are trying to tell us!

      Any day on the water is a great day! And...contrary to what you see on TV and social media...everybody has rough days on the water!

    I fish that hole just above the bridge quite a bit. Nice stretch of river.

    Just curious but what do you mean by a “linear river”? I’ve never heard that term. This may be a dumb question, but I appreciate the informative content!

    • @DayOneOutdoors
      @DayOneOutdoors  Рік тому

      Not at all! I actually probably just made up the term. But what I was hoping to convey is how this system has bedrock that runs straight up and down stream. This seemed to change how the fish moved and where they laid in the holes...even in the higher water!

    How can I find a guide to take me out here? I fished the Umpqua yesterday 8/9/23 near Tyee Campground by Bullock bridge and inky caught small mouth. Is there a better time of year than August?

    you need to get out more lol this is hilarious you’re all thinking the waters too high and fish are gonna be hugging bank then they hook one middle of the river haha

      It was definitely a different fishery! Bill has written books and hundreds of articles over his 40+ years of Steelhead fishing. And I've fished steelhead for 30+ years and guide 50+ days each year for steelhead as well! And...everything we thought we knew about these fish was wrong! This system with its ledge rock made these fish act completely different than the fish in our rivers! Was very frustrating, but a great learning experience for sure!

      Yup! Well...kinda...we were still WAAAAAY behind in total fish caught. But...we did prove "A" fish can be caught on plugs!

      Every system is different. Cody and Bill are a wealth of knowledge but they aren't afraid to admit local knowledge is key.

    Dirty water? That ain’t dirty water…if you wanna fish dirty water, fish the Russian in California…we catch fish in water that’s BROWN…

      Lmao. That's so funny i decided to go to the comments of this video. As watching this video i literally was thinking the same exact thing. That rivers color looks damn good to me, I to am from the Russian River area and fish the river alot. Been fishing more up the coast and southern Oregon more the past few years just because the numbers are just so damn bad on the Russian. But i still always manage a few fish out of the river a year the past couple seasons. Use to kill the fish in the river, but its been a few seasons for sure. Love the comment bud. Getting close to the season man, im chomping at the bit for some damn good rain. take care
