One the best singers / performers of all time. Possibly the best. Legendary singer and band
They reached the level of success with the four of them not just Freddie it takes all of them to make the Queen sound ❤ x
You should do this live at Wembley 1986. Their live performances are the best
You do realize its from the "Highlander" movie. The race that lasts a thousand years, there can only be one.
Untill the sequels but sshhhh.
Guys, you should do this one live whembley 86' will be blown away great performance l❤❤
Just when you think you've seen a super-excited person for the day (Jodi finally breaking open an apple)... you get another poppin off mid-music video!!! :O
Thanks guys, wonderful as always
You're going to love the duet between Michael Jackson & Freddie Mercury then....
It's called "There must be more to life than this"
I love this song, written by Roger for the Queen Soundtrack for the movie Highlander. Freddie really owns this song. Thank you for your reactions.
As much as Freddie was brilliant Queen is a band made up of four brilliant musicians. To single one out is so wrong.
“A Kind of Magic” was written by Roger for the film Highlander
The phrase “a kind of magic” is used in Highlander by Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) as a description of his immortality. Roger liked the phrase so much that he used it as inspiration for the song. There are references to the film in the lyrics: “one prize, one goal”; “no mortal man”; and “there can be only one”. The single’s cover art features an image of Clancy Brown in character as the film’s villain, The Kurgan.
Roger wrote the melody and chords for the version that appeared in the film, which Brian described as “quite lugubrious and heavy”.
Freddie really liked the song but he kept hearing it differently in his head. So when Roger went on holiday, Freddie composed a new bass line, added instrumental breaks, and changed the song’s order to make it more chart-friendly. Then Freddie and David Richards produced this new version.
When Roger returned from holiday, Freddie played Roger his new version of the song. Roger was rather annoyed but had to admit that it sounded better.
The song was still credited only to Roger. While Roger’s version is at the end of the film, Freddie’s version appears on the album, the video, and is what they performed in concerts. Roger’s version of A Kind of Magic did not see official release until it was included on the extra EP for the 2011 special edition of the album.
FYI - Brian did not use his famous Red Special guitar in the music video, but instead a 1984 copy. Apparently, the theatre they filmed lacked central heating and was very cold, much to the discomfort of the band and the crew. Brian didn't want to risk damaging the Red Special.
BTW - though I enjoy the studio version of the song, I prefer the live version - ua-cam.com/video/9HGbbdYRhFs/v-deo.html
Freddie gets all the attention due to his vocals and stage presence, however, queen also would not be queen without john, Brian and Roger, they wrote a nunber of their hits and particular riffs, so they were a band of unique talents that combined to make queen great
Well said ❤ x
To be fair Freddie did have that little extra
This is Rogers but his version is for the film and heavier and probably wouldn't have been a hit
This tweaked version by Freddie was
@@bluebell3720 performed by FOUR people.
@@janetturner8246
Yes! You can have great ideas but as musicians you need to be able to perform it
They were great musicians
But it was Freddie who saw it as a potential hit and added bass line more guitar..tweaked it
The others didnt
It was Rogers song and credit officially goes to him
But if Freddie hadn't worked on it we wouldn't know the song
The original doesn't have the popularity this does
@@bluebell3720 Was the original issued as a single,if not how does anyone know if it would have been a hit.If I remember Freddie did produce a solo album that never became a major hit.Queen is four members with a brilliant frontman that gelled together. All four members writing no.1 hits.
Just love Freddie. RIP 🇬🇧
Getting great Highlander flashbacks (was alive when it was released, so now feel old). Not just a great film but a great soundtrack. Try 'Gimme the Prize' and 'Who wants to Live Forever'. Keep the great posts coming😁B.T.W. The Kurgan still one of movies biggest badasses
John is keeping that great riff going. Great bass player.
Princes of the universe from highlander is good, released in America, but not in the UK
This is such a fun video but you should check this out live.
That song is amazing.
Not sure, but the exterior of the round building looked like the Greenwich observatory, built 1675. I wouldn't swear to it but it may have been a part of the observatory called the Great Equatorial Observatory. I may well be mistaken. Interesting because Brian May had a Masters degree in astrophysics. After Freddie died Bryan went back to university and gained his PhD in astrophysics.. In 2007, he submitted his doctoral thesis in astrophysics on the subject "A Survey of Radial Velocities In The Zodiacal Dust Cloud.". A very intelligent gentleman (Doctor now).
It’s not the Greenwich Observatory - but the Playhouse Theatre in the west end of London - sorry to dispute your theories! 🥺😨
@@weedle30 I did say I wasn't sure. But it would have been a nice coincidence with Bryan Mays background.
@@happilyeggs4627 I grew up in and around the Greenwich area, so the Observatory, Greenwich Park, the Meridian Line was like a second home and my playground and would have recognised it immediately 😄. Brian May has been to the Observatory on many occasions with a fellow astronomer friend called Dara O’Briein ☺️ and I know he really enjoys his times there
@@weedle30 I wasn't brought up anywhere near Greenwich. I've only ever seen pictures of the Observatory. It was the dome that made me think it might be Greenwich, that and the greenery.
@@happilyeggs4627 if you ever get a chance to visit it and Greenwich, take it! There is so much to see and do - not just the Observatory etc, the Meridian Line etc but the Royal Naval College, the huge tea clipper, the Cutty Sark and the Park itself. From the top of the Park, (Blackheath) it’s a very steep hill and you can see right across to Docklands and see all the new (ish) buildings going up (and the O2). The sight of Docklands changes yearly as so many buildings are “going up” - when I was young, you could look across and see nothing! It was just a desolate landscape - now it’s a major financial and commercial workspace! As a school kid, no school term was complete until the obligatory and yearly visit to Greenwich and its historical places - with a clipboard, pencil and a set of questions we had to answer about the Observatory and the Maritime Museum! All good fun … really…unless you didn’t check your answers and got told off by Teacher! 😳😄
Like too see nick look up Info at the end of Reaction Give better understanding of songs, Instruments played who wrote it So given more credit to the rest of the band
Hey Guys…
As with most of Queen’s songs, LIVE is EVEN BETTER.
The live version of “It’s A Kind Of Magic”
On FRIDAY, JULY 11, 1986
At Wembley Stadium…
Is LEAGUES BETTER than the studio recording!
YOU REALLY SHOULD SEE IT!!
(Because HONESTLY… NOTHING beats Freddie’s vocals live.)
(With Wembley performances: You should specify the date, because there were TWO 1986 Queen Wembley concerts back-to-back on consecutive nights… Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12. Some performances were best on Friday, some were best on Saturday.)
This song and album was written by Queen for the film Highlander so it was written for the tone and story of the film. They were not SFX they were just an animation for the video. Perhaps you should read to the film to really appreciate it.
Please try 'One Vision' extended. You will love it. You need to try some Queen live at Wembley, maybe 'Hammer to Fall'
Brothers missing your cricket reactions😢
Lots of good songs by Queen for Highlander and Flash Gordon movies, check out the others.
“It’s a kind of magic” is how an immortal answers the question of why he didn’t die after getting gunned down by a Nazi.
Check out live performances this is performed at Wembley live it’s amazing 😊 thanks
Can you react to Nightwish? I think you both would like them, especially with Floor Jansen as their lead singer. Try Romanticide, Ghost Love Score or there cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. You won't be disappointed, but it is a rabbit hole that you may never get out of. ;)
For Romanticide and Ghost Love Score, you want Wacken 2013 and for High Hopes you want the End of an Era version.
Please do ‘Princes of the Universe,’ Love to see your face.
Do the live version Wembley 86. You’ll like it
If you want to see a cool amazing showman fronting a band, check early eighties live kid creole. Best that ever did it.
Its a Roger Taylor song.
Tweaked by Freddie!
React to its a kind of magic live wembley
React to Queens Live performances!!! They're better than the videos.
I love Freddie, he’s an icon. But Adam Lambert with Queen is quite something too. He had huge boots to fill and I don’t think anyone else could have pulled it off.
The best!
