Them days of getting double sided posters from seventeen magazine with 2 Disney stars and trying to pick which one you wanted to face the wall and which one you'd see every day
HSM is loosely based on Grease...maybe ironically Romeo and Juliet but the intention was Grease. In the early 2000s the original script was intended for Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake to be the Gabriella and Troy characters respectively...fun facts!
@@hugohenderson oh oh also Christina Aguilera was supposed to be the Sharpay character and the rest of N*Sync was supposed to be the basketball squad :)
Love this video!! Now I know the discussion mainly revolved around Disney Channel actors with music careers through the Disney company, but what about Jesse McCartney? Even though he *technically* wasn't an actor on Disney Channel like the rest of the people mentioned, he still had a record deal through Disney. Plus his music was heavily promoted on the channel, and I'm sure he made a buttload of money too lol
And don't forget how he went on to voice Roxas/Ventus in Kingdom Hearts, another Disney product that he's been voicing for years! And to this date, my mom still says one of the best/most memorable episodes on the channel was when he featured on Zack and Cody. What an icon he is :)
i loved jesse so much as a kid! and he was so freaking cute too!!!! i still put his music on my playlists along with david archuletta or however it’s spelled 😂
This video made me go through all my old CDs lmaooo I have the Lizzie McGuire soundtrack from the show, Metamorphosis, Hillary Duff (album), Aly&AJ's CD with the 2Disk set that had the Sims 2 mv on it lol (Such icons, being all over the Bratz Rock Angels game, too), and I have Hannah Montana's first CD from the show, and I have HSM2's CD uwu Yes I'm getting old Also fun fact, Corbin Bleu's song Deal with It got bought/sampled whatever you wanna call it for Kpop group SHINee's "Juliette" which was an even better hit overseas in like 2011 lol Great video, Hugo! I'm new to the channel but have been watching your stuff the past few days and I'm enjoying all the history and opinions on the stuff of my childhood!
It's funny how the trajectory went from finding huge success after Disney, to becoming superstars ON the network, BACK to finding huge success after Disney (as seen with Zendaya, Olivia and Jenna)
Disney and music is such an interesting topic. They had a country music label in the 00s that did well (they had signed Rascal Flatts), they currently own the ENTIRE Queen discography in the US, they currently have ties with artists like Andy Grammer, I could go on. I think a video on the rest of Disney's music would be really interesting as there's even more to Hollywood records and their music than just Disney Channel
Excellent video! I loved growing up with this era of Disney Channel ✨ Funny to think Hilary and Aly & AJ did well with their second albums, whilst the others fell into a pattern of “not as successful as the debut”. Ashley Tisdale’s “Headstrong” was brilliant and I’m sure it would have been totally different had she been on Hollywood Records, it was very mature and daring (“Don’t Touch (The Zoom Song)”, I’m looking at you).
1) love your channel so much! Been binging your videos all day and you are so super talented 2) ……as a lifelong simmer and aly & aj super fan I had no idea chemicals react had a simlish version and had to stop watching immediately to go find it and came right back 😂
Hilary Duff was and still is my Queen of Disney Channel. She deserves all the credit in the world for being the trailblazing blueprint that she is! Amazing video! 💖💖💖
It would be Great if you did a video where you Actually do research and one where you go through everytime nickelodeon tried to push one of their stars into music or have them do music rather it's a soundtrack, theme song, or full Albums and why none of them became massive what where they all missing that disney had
You should do a Video on Nickelodeon music and why none of their Singers manage to become major stars in music the way disney stars did Ariana doesn't count cause she break out after her show ended
Nick tried to make music stars out of Melissa joan hart, Emma Roberts, drake bell,Miranda cosgrove, big time rush, naked brothers band, School girls,Jeanette mccurdy, Lil Romeo Victoria Justice, the Spectacular Cast,The victorious cast, Elizabeth Gilies Cymphonique miller,Lay Lay
Lil Romeo was already a big rap star before Nickelodeon, same with his father. As for Romeo's sister Cymphonique, she had a short lived show on Nick titled "How to Rock". Nickelodeon didn't treat her & her show as well as Miranda & Victoria.
Elder millennial here…. I devoured the Mickey Mouse club.!!!!!! I had no idea that a lot of these kids were gonna grow up to be this mega superstars! It’s crazy to think that the Mickey Mouse club was actually just an “ attraction “ or “ show “ at Hollywood studios a Disney World!
Are these Hilary duff song edits to get around copyright or is that a different singer? It sounds pretty natural like a cover if it's just edited it lowkey eats
I do think Sneakernight was the best option for lead single from Identified though. Identified is cute, but not strong enough for being a lead single. Sneakernight had a lot of personality and was a unique selling point basically - a bit quirky, it stood out from a lot that was released around the same time, and not in a bad way necessarily. Identified is good, but I think it could've been released by Britney Spears, Heidi Montag, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff or a lot of other "dance pop" queens from around that time.
I don't think the younger ones realize how strong and fun our teen culture used to be. Sadly now they seem to just rely on kpop imports than creating anything of our own.
shouldnt you consider operating costs, advertising costs and production costs when calculating the money disney made..? what really matters is the profit not the total revenue so it seems inaccurate to just multiply the sales count by the price of an album… especially without taking into account inflation and other aspects
What artists can bring in altogether matters more in this case since he’s talking about their overall success and popularity rather than how much they profited.
@@groundmustard i agree, but then in that case just showing the album sales count or streaming numbers would’ve been more efficient… i don’t get the point of calculating revenue without going all the way
what made disney/hollywood records let go of these kids who would become stars in a few years is because their first artist “the party” a group made up of kids from mmc didn’t do so well so that she why they couldn’t see the potential in the younger kids since they already experienced failure
Aly and aj released genuinely good music that still holds up to this DAY
I was around for the Hilary Duff and Aly&AJ craze and I put their pictures all over my room! What a fun time!
Early 2000s what a time to be be alive. Good childhood.
