every single rudy francisco poem gives me the chills
This line is so pure, *"I was taught that a woman’s vagina is just an underground railroad to masculinity"* It sums up our relationship culture in the black community so well.

I keep thinking about the fact that chameleons don't change colors as camouflage but in response to emotions and as a way to communicate. It changes the metaphor only a little bit and changes the message not at all, but it also adds nuance that might not have been so obvious otherwise.
Amazing amazing amazing! Always loved his poetry but this!!!!! He literally gave words to our tangled song of culture and society

I was raised by racist people. And I hate to say that about people I want to love. But I know that they are learning from me. Last year, I was with friends at a bar. Drinking probably too much. When it came time to leave boys invited us to their place for a party. We went. Not long after I got there someone began spouting hateful rhetoric about people of color. I battled his rhetoric, head on, and I and my friends were kicked out. In an unfamiliar place to walk back to our resort. I left without anything, and I think my friends learned something from me that night. Later that year I lost one of those friends and I hope to think that she sees and knows what I feel and believe in. They walked with me. Miles in the middle of the night because I wouldn’t let the shit slide. I hope that Ciara sees me, from heaven, typing this and she knows how much it meant to me that she stood with me rather than doing the easy thing.
Well damn....now that's the understanding of a reformed man. Maybe there's hope yet.
