  • Hi Everyone! My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. I talk a lot about pet insurance for your dog or cat, but today I took it a step farther. I got seven quotes for pet insurance for my make believe dog. I go over the most expensive and cheapest pet insurance options.
For my pet insurance quotes I settled on a 250 dollar deductible, 90% reimbursement, and mx 10k coverage by the pet insurance company. My goal is to figure out what the premiums looks like per per insurance company.
Trupanion was the most expensive option. Trupanion does have no maximum pay out. Trupanion also covers conditions or illness per deductible which is a little different than the other pet insurance companies.
The ASPCA was the second most expensive. The ASPCA has great coverage for pet insurance.
Embrace is the next most expensive. Embrace is rated number one pet insurance provider by Forbes.
Pumpkin is the next option on our list. United States Fire Insurance Company is the underwriter for Pumpkin pet insurance.
Figo is number three on premium pricing. Figo has paid out almost 80 million in veterinary bills. That is a lot of dogs and cats getting veterinary care.
Pets Best comes in second with regards to pricing. Pets Best is under written by American Pet Insurance Company.
The winner of the lowest premium price is Lemonade! With Lemonade you can get covered in seconds and claims approved in minutes according to the website.
Always talk with your vet about starting any new pet insurance. Always get your veterinarian recommendation. Most of these pet insurances have options to add on office visit coverage or even get preventive care covered!
Disclaimer: Always talk with your veterinarian before starting pet insurance. This video does not replaced veterinary care.

Yes and I got screwed from Pumpkin Pet Insurance. I was supposed to get back $150 back for my reimbursement but Kimberly Lohry only want to give me $8. And my cat have UTI. So if you are smart don’t even waste your time giving money to corruptive Pumpkin Pet Insurance. Unless you don’t mind given them your free money or donate your money to them for free to the SCAMMERS. Then that’s your choice and do what’s makes you happy but don’t become a victim like myself….Aloha!

@@Ratsamyo same. Had a $1200.00 vet bill they paid $28.00 for two shots which we paid extra for. My deductible is $500.00 but rest was denied. I pay $130.00 a month.

So my best bet is to call my vet and communicate with them to see which insurance they can accept depending on my dog. Do I talk on the phone to the receptionist or to my vet doctor?
All the plans you showed us…. Is there any catch? Any tricks I need to know
Is that really what I’m basically paying for example 70 per month
So $70 per month for pet insurance covers a lot of things such as vet visits, appointments and vaccines surgery etc….??

Hi Dr.Dan thank you for awesome information. I am looking for the insurance that have unlimited payout and have options to add on wellness care, exam fee, office visits, etc. I am planning to bring my golden doodle puppy soon. Could you please help me pick the insurance for him ? I budget is about 200 to max 250 a month. Thank you .

Thanks for the information! I asked my vet practice who they recommend, but they were noncommittal.
I eventually chose Pets Best. But I didn’t select their most comprehensive coverage for the following reasons.
    1. I can afford regular veterinary visits/care. I don’t think they’re overly expensive (for me anyway; I’m sure many others aren’t in my financial position). So I’m not going to pay monthly premiums simply to cover a regular annual expense.
    2. I didn’t choose unlimited coverage. I think I capped it at $5000. Why? Because anything above that is probably so catastrophic that the animal is probably suffering, and needs end of life treatment.
    3. I chose 80% coverage, again because the cost analysis between the monthly premium and the reimbursement didn’t bear out the additional expense.
    4. As you know, I’ve lost three dogs to hemangiosarcoma, although I don’t know why. I don’t use fertilizer or any chemicals around my house. My adult children were once toddlers, and I sure wasn’t going to expose them so I could have a perfect lawn! Anyway, the hemangio care cost several thousand each, including euthanasia, private cremation, etc. The insurance would’ve been very helpful to defray those costs, but for routine blood work or poop analysis, it isn’t necessary.

So I have unlimited for my Oliver from pets best. My Ellie just died in December. She had Addisons disease. She never suffered but her treatment and her meds and labs were horribly expensive. Everyone who treated her couldn’t believe how she just trucked on and kept fighting. So you putting a monetary value on your pets life is sad. Ellie didn’t have insurance and I kept her going until she told me it was time. There is no monetary cap on my dogs’ lives

    • @brazapride

You could not be any more wrong about 5k+ being end of life LOL 5k is a relatively minor surgery and inpatient recovery afterwards. You are underestimating the cost of pet care by unbelievable amounts.

    • @wotan10950
      @wotan10950 11 місяців тому

That's ok. I don't like when people put words in my mouth -- I'm just as devoted to my dogs as anyone. If the bill is higher than $5K, and there's a good chance that they will have perhaps a year of quality life, I'll pay out of pocket. I have a lot money, peons! I don't like the idea of selfishly paying thousands to prolong an animal's suffering. So do whatever you want: DILLIGAS (hint: Do I Look Like I Give..........)

so im thinking of getting the (Lemonade Accident & Illness coverage) = $853 paid in full Covering 70% with a $250 deductible and a Max $10K

@@DanTheVeterinarian Its more than that almost down right deception.Let me give you some examples. Let say you take your two year old dog to the vet and you say your dog doesnt run quite as fast as when he was one year old and teh vet says could just be a little arthritis. Then 10 years later when he is 12 years old he gets arthritis and needs treatment. The insurance will see a statement by your vet 10 years ago and say its a pre-exsisting condition. Then the ones that say we will cover pre-exsisting condtions if its been more than 6 months has a clause taht says that doesnt apply to incurable diseases so they still would deny your claim. Same way if your dog sneezes in teh vet office and it develops allergies later in life they would probably say the sneeze was allergey and deny cliam. Second, the appeals process with insurers like Spot.ASPCA and Pumpkin and others has an appeal process but guess who decided the appeal? The insurance company! They do not have a independent review! So lets say you was convicted of a crime of speeding by a cop, you went to court to fight it and instead of a judge another cop said they would rule who was right or wrong!...lol Ps, They also have a LONG cliams time so if your dog needed a lot of treatent in a short of amount of Time you are in big trouble if you dont have a pile of cash or credit
