- Should I Get Pet Insurance - A Must Have For New Dog Owners Or A Waste Of Money // Pet insurance is something all new puppy owners should get. The best health insurance can only be determined by you and your puppy’s needs. Is pet insurance worth it, we think so, especially since emergency vet care can be so expensive? Your new dog should be covered in case they get injured. Your new puppy may jump off the couch or ingest something that needs to be surgically removed. The first pet insurance policy was created for livestock and cattle but the first dog to have pet insurance was Lassie. Whether you pick Trupanion, Embrace, Pumpkin or your homeowner's insurance be sure to check what the deductible is and how fast the payouts are made once you submit a claim. Puppy supplies don’t end at crate, bed, and toys… all new dog owners should get their pet insured to keep them safe and so they never have to make a difficult decision if the vet bill is too high. Puppy training can be your best bet against puppy injury. You can train your dog to not chew or eat things they aren’t supposed to, and not jump off objects that may lead to injury. Michele Lennon has been training for over 20 years and now offers online puppy training courses to help you train your puppy from your own home.

Thanks for watching "Should I Get Pet Insurance A Must Have For New Dog Owners Or A Waste Of Money." Do you have pet insurance for your puppy?
hmmm i plan on it!
Our plan with Nationwide just went live. Have heard great things, but haven't had to use it yet!
After I watch so many videos on Puppy training, I definitely love yours, make a lot sense, very straightforward guides,I could understand your English very well (I am Foreign ) without translation or reading the captions . Thank you so very much! I made a lot notes to training “Mon Petit Prunella” Thanks a million. God bless you🙏🏽
Researching before I get my puppy. So helpful to have advice when there are so many questions. Watching from Jackson, MI.
We love when pet owners are proactive! This is the perfect time to get a head start on training, too. Check out our course, 30 Days to Puppy Perfection:

Thanks for this video. I was beginning to look into this for our puppy that came home about a week ago. She'll be going to the vet tomorrow for her 2nd set of shots so going to ask them while I'm there. We're in London, Ontario Canada
Tuning in from Rialto, California and love your advice!
Thanks for tuning in. So happy you ejoyed the tips!
I'm in the UK and getting my adorable German Shepherd puppy in 4 weeks. Thank you Michelle, for your really useful advice, I love your channel ❤️.
Glad it was helpful!
Yes, insurance is definitely a need for a new puppy. It will save you lots of worries and worries.
Thank you so much for all your tips which I found extremely helpful. I am about to get a cockapoo puppy and am so excited. I live in beautiful Shrewsbury in the UK.
Thank You!!!!
I am getting quotes of 150 to $200 a month. That is an insane amount of money for a household pet.
That seems high, are you here in the US or in another country? All the plans I looked at including the ones I mentioned in the video were anywhere from $29-50 per month. Does your pup have a pre-existing condition? Did you add more than 1 dog onto the plan?
It all depends on the pets age, the deductible, and the level of plan. I have an 11 year old that is coming in at that rate as well. Our puppy with a whole wellness plan is coming in at about 80/mo with a 250 annual deductible, no limit plan.
@@rajkin I live in Canada and will be getting my new puppy in 2 weeks. Im also seeing minimum 80-150$ per month for basic plans that dont include dental or preventative care. Its insane!
Thank you Michelle for the video, this was something that my wife and I were discussing and I feel this video is helpful. We just received our new family member two weeks ago (12 week old Pomeranian).
Cute keithe I love those digs🥰🥰🥰☺️☺️

Love your vid😍
Thanks for the video and the different tips you share according to your experience, I'm about to get a Weimaraner puppy this fall after almost 15 years since the last time I got a puppy and I know it is a great responsibility, sometimes this makes me feel uneasy and bit anxious but at least your tips and recommendations according to your experience makes me feel more reassure and confident into what to expect, I guess this confidence will get better with time, right?. Ohh by the way, I'm watching from Montreal 🇨🇦. Cheers
We're so glad you are finding our videos helpful. You're exactly right, a puppy is a lot of responsibility. Check out this video on what to expect with your new puppy: ua-cam.com/video/wpHz3fcnugg/v-deo.html
Went through... no possibility for discounts and cost for insurance is wildly high. Cost for a surgery $3000? Well damn but the cost to insure my puppy looks like $220/month + a $900 deductible. Already started a puppy fund a few months ago and have $800 saved. Unless he literally needs surgery in the first few months I cannot fathom how I would save on pet insurance. And it goes up as they age.
Puppies (dogs!) are expensive! Its great you're looking into pet insurance.
I work in pet insurance, let me know if you have questions.
It's best to start the policy as a puppy before things become pre-existing. You can't wait until something happens.
As a whole the preventive coverage sucks. Plan to have those costs out of pocket (vaccines, spay neuter, etc.) The preventive loses you money if you don't understand it.
My top brands are spot/aspca/pumpkin and nationwide. They are the top two competing companies.
I live in Houston and waiting for my Havanese puppy....hopefully by June.

I am coming from Iowa with a brand new 11 week old miniature schnauzer. I would love some tips on how to keep her from nipping us.
Really like your show
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned!

I am in Southern California . My puppy is coming home in two weeks. I want to have the perfect puppy or at least try.
Thank you this is exactly what I was going to ask you about Michele. I'm looking at Trupanion
I have it and it’s been easy submitting a claim on my phone. I got Trupanion for my pup right away and I just ran through a 6 week bladder infection with 3 different types of antibiotics and going to the vet every two weeks for urine cultures and follow ups. It took us 6 weeks to finally get better and almost $1400 in vet bills, Trupanion reimbursed me about 6-700 of it. It’s been worth it for me and something like a bladder infection can just happen.
Trupanion sucks. They have a per incident deductible.... They're one if the worst companies.
While searching for breeders, I noticed some send the pups home with, for example, a 6 week trial of insurance. Do insurance companies offer discounts if you sign up early (obviously there shouldn't be any pre-existing conditions at 8 weeks!)? Also, if for example the parents have health clearances does that get taken into account?
It really depends on the insurance company. I encourage you to check with your insurance company for this question.
Me again😂 choosing between lemonade and pets best for my 2 month old golden doodle. I was quoted for $30-$40 usd a month. I want to get dental as well, some do not offer that.
Thanks for watching! Hopefully we gave you some good questions to ask as you are doing your research.
Hi I'm from Lakeland FL and we are getting a Beagle puppy 🐶 boy from a breeder that I have been talking to about a year. He mainly breeds show dogs and he has visited our home. And recommended stuff for us to do before we get the puppy witch we have name Snooper
Congrats on your new pup! Here is a video that you may find helpful (Preparing for a new puppy) ua-cam.com/video/wpHz3fcnugg/v-deo.html
I’m getting ready to welcome a puppy home this June. How long before the puppy comes is the best time to purchase an insurance plan?
Most companies have a minimum age requirement to receive a quote. You may have to wait until you bring the puppy home, but we recommend you check it out with the insurance company.
Me too! I get to bring my puppy home the second week of June. I have everything all ready except for checking on insurance. I wasn’t sure if I needed insurance but I suspect I will.

Researching for the future - potentially a Cavalier King Charles puppy. I am from DFW area of Texas.
It's great that you're doing puppy training research before getting a puppy!

Yeah, I am SO GLAD I found your channel again before getting the puppy. I just watched your hour training on 30 days to Puppy Perfection. I realize there is A LOT of re-training/training my brain to do and this is a huge (and very rewarding) undertaking. Definitely looking forward to Pro level. But I’m not on Facebook. 🫤🤔
Oh you will love the course and the PRO level! We use FB a lot for PRO. That's where our students upload training or behavior videos for feedback, we have monthly challenges, students ask questions in between Zoom calls and you can read what other people are working on (and see all the other cute puppies!). I know FB isn't perfect but it's the best platform we've got for right now. Some people create a FB account for their dog with no identifying information and participate that way. We will never share your information or SPAM you. Give it a thought. We'd love to help you!
HealthyPaws !
Meh
We live in western Michigan and have a 4 month old Weimaraner. We think maybe we need to not only insure her but I cease our health insurance because her favorite chew toys are our hands 😱
That biting state gets intense during teething. Have you seen this video all about biting? ua-cam.com/video/bujm1GZFOjY/v-deo.html
After crunching the numbers I think I'll just create a Pet Emergency account that I deposit money into bi-weekly instead. If by fate my guy requires any medical surgery/treatment before having $1,000-3,000 put away I'll deplete that fund and offset the difference with a Vet no interest payment plan (usually 6 months)
We love that you're planning ahead!

I Am Getting A Rough Collie (lassie type) And Im Not Sure If I Should Get A Martingale Collar , Flat Collar , Or Harness. Please Let Me Know Which One You Reccomend. :D

So the moral of this story is, if you’re hurt in America, go to the vets, it’s cheaper than a hospital!
It does seem that way, doesn't it! :-)
