  • Downspout drainage is very important when it comes to protecting your homes foundation from water. However, there are things that you don't want to do when it comes to the installation of downspout drainage lines. Improper installation of the drainage system can just lead to more problems than it solves. The use of perforated pipe for downspout drainage is a common mistake, that should be avoided.
Drain lines from the downspout should always be solid pvc pipe, either corrugated or smooth wall pvc pipe. Installing perforated pipe onto to gutters will percolate water back around the foundation wall, which we don't want. Perforated pipe for downspout drain lines should only be used when creating a leech field to drain the water from the lines. This application is most often used when dealing with poor slope on properties, or locations for which, a gravity drainage system will not allow for water push out.

Great video but would it be better to just use pbc all the way to prevent it from getting clogged and assure a secure trench? Thanks in advance

Question: My house doesnt have 15 feet to the edge of my property to install the trench there. I have 5-7 feet on either side of the foundation. I was planning to use this EZ flow pipe about 5 feet out and angle them down sloping away from my house. Are you saying I should not do that and instead use some other pipe until I get 15 feet away from my house (only would be in the front yard then)

Hadn't seen the easy flow pipes before. Interesting. Can't believe they used perforated pipe on that downspout. I don't use the socks either, just washed stone around the pipe. Good thing they got you there Brooks! Keep up the good work bud.
