This line was built in 1880s and some parts (Belgrade - Velika Plana and Stalać - Aleksinac) run on same tracks as in 1890. Line is just electrified in 1970s.
All tunnels around Belgrade at this line are 140 years old.
Line should be reconstructed soon and upgraded to 200km/h and whole trip should take 1h50m.

13:47 WI FI is free for all classes, not just for first class. First class, it means leather seats and table, thats all.
USB plag, WI FI... it not just for A class.
My recomendation: do not spend a money on A class in Serbia.

Thanks for the recommendation. We enjoyed first class seating and would probably do it again espcially because there wasn't much difference in the cost and we loved the space. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hi! love your videos in Serbia! I wanted to tell you that it takes about 4 hours or a bit less by bus to Nis, if you need to take it sometimes. Also, if you were in Nis today, did you notice how empty the streets were(well, almost empty) :D We celebrate Orthodox Easter today so everyone is at home. Sending lots of love! And feel free to ask anything that might help you, I will gladly answer ❤

    Great video!
If you take the bus to Niš next time, emphasize that you want to travel without stopping, because the regular line stops at at least three places (Velika Plana, Markovac (Motel Stari Hrast) and Aleksinac) and takes at least 15 minutes per place, a total of at least 45 minutes

No refreshments were not offered on the train we were on. We brought our own. Have a great trip.

State of serbian rails are not so good, actually very bad on the most of routes, this is a reason of the lenght of your trip. This should be 2,5 hours long trip by train but it extends up to 4,5,6 hours, because of average speed of 40-50km per hour. But HONESTLY, i HATE FAST TRAINS and FAST RAILS, i LIKE slow trains, it is a mutch more fun trip by me. Only fast route in Serbia, it is a route between BELGRADE and NOVI SAD, 200 km per hour. Construction of 200km per hour route BELGRADE-NIŠ should start soon, i do not know exact data. My recomendation for you is to visit part of Serbia southern of Belgrade and after that Novi Sad. When you travel to Novi Sad, use train, it is a fastest way, 2 time faster then BUS.

My recomendation for you is to visit part of Serbia southern of Belgrade, because its different from the rest of Europe, central and western Europe. Is mutch more like real Balcan. It is a Europe by culture, mixed with Balcan culture and architecture(mix of western and eastern influence but unique).

    • @hypatiatv1

Is not Asia, but isnt Europe by 100%.

Yes, we enjoyed the slow train to Nis as it gave us the opportunity to see more of Serbia, even if it was through the window. Unfortunately we wont make it to Novi Sad this trip, but maybe if we return we will get he chance.

It must be unusual for you as Americans to ride in the public transport.

did you got e tickets or you can only purchase ticekts in the staion from belgrade to nis?

    • @RoxanneandLen
      @RoxanneandLen  Рік тому

I'm not sure if you can get e-tickets. We went to the station and bought our tickets ahead of time. Many people also bought their ticket at the station when they arrived. There are machines in the station to purchase tickets making it very easy.

If you were heading north you could take high-speed train to Novi Sad or maybe even further to Hungarian border. Train heading south are legacy train from the communist era. Eventually most main routs will also be converted to high-speed.

Novi Sad is definately on our list for the next time we are in Serbia. We are disappointed we missed it, just ran out of time. thanks for the suggestion.

The train was a stadler flirt. Hardly a legacy train. In fact Serbia has signed contracts for 60 brand new stadler flirt trainsets just recently. 🙂

As everything else, corrupted government managed to fuck up even trains and railroad transport. 250 km should be a around 1-2 hrs trip , but instead it is an odyssey which lasts 6 hrs or more. Im sorry you had to suffer through that.

@@RoxanneandLen This year they will sign the contract for new high-speed track between bg and nis. It will be similar at bg-novi sad, if you tried. So, in a couple of years, it will be great.

@@RoxanneandLen greetings, first of all you should know that it takes 6 hours to travel because this country was bombed by the Americans and set it back 50 years. Those were democratic bombs and instructive. When yours is bombed you will travel from Boston to New York for 5 days.

@@predragmilovanovic4710 Yeah those same bombs stopped a metro from being built in Belgrade one hundred years after the first trams. Those bombs also ensured that Belgrade bus station is dirty and outdated. And the bombs are the reason why the roads are terrible with holes in them.
Nothing quite like nationalism to stop one from looking in the mirror.
