Excited to go record that new song idea? Lay that track down before you forget! But before you do, don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more great videos that'll help you along the way 🤘

Recording your rehearsals, or if you are auditioning a potential new band member, is invaluable for feedback. Aging myself, we started recording our writing sessions on a boombox with a cassette recorder. Not the best audio, but it captured the ideas and we would be able to shape the songs after reviewing the material as a listener instead of being in the moment as a performer.

That's how I use my Behginger Xenyx UFX1204 mixer. Mix the band and record songs at practice and then just take the USB thumb drive or external hard drive home and bounce all the WAV files for all the raw tracks into my DAW at home for mixing. So easy and don't need to break anything down. You'd be surprised how much of that stuff ends up in the final mixes, get that great live band feel and add layers and polish at home.

We use the model24, everything miced up, PA through the board, with the vocals also recording on their own tracks.. 4 phones to to get the footage.. export the stereo file, dump it in premiere and cut the footage to the audio... we get some awesome results.

Unfortunately this was not in-depth enough. How exactly do I setup each solutions in the rehearsal room? How do I setup my DAW for this? Is there a follow-up video?

You clicked a 5 minute video and expected a super in-depth breakdown?

what i like to know is the sample rate of these kind of digital mixers.... i am trying to find out if it has a benefit to get one of the bigger mixers like those of presonus studiolive series, or go for a bigger usb interface.. at the moment i use a steinberg ur12 i have now, i also have an older behringer mixer if i want to record multiple inputs but this way what comes out of the mixer i can only record it on 1 or 2 tracks separately because of my interface only has 2 inputs. to record a complete band with, so lets say i need 6 inputs at least and i want to record them directly in my daw on separate tracks.
i already found out i can just go for one of those new digital mixers and just use those as usb interface also, because they can send out every track separately as usb interface, but... when i look into the specs i am seeing these mixers, even the most expensive one i can find on the local music store here, has a sample rate of 44.1 or 48 khz. while my steinberg ur12 goes up to 192khz, which is much higher.
would it not be more better for the quality if i just go for a better audio interface that has at least 6 inputs instead of a mixer that has usb interface option?

Our band practices in a small room above a garage but with pretty good acoustics. I would like to record but not sure what would be the best way. Available to us is an analog Allen &Heath PA28 mixing board and a 4 track Yamaha cassette recorder. Not sure if it would be better to set up a couple of mics in the room and straight connect them to the cassette recorder, or use the 2 track outputs from the PA28 and connect to the recorder. If I wanted to use the PA28 outputs, is there a video that describes how to interface for recording ? I have a manual but it only explains the various controls/inputs/outputs/etc. Would be nice to find a tutorial or 'how-to' on doing this.

Do you have anything in analog that records directly onto full sized cassette tapes?

Hey mate! We are trying to acheive that perfect music band audio in Live streaming. For some reason it doesn't sound the same as some UA-cam music band?

If I'm trying to just setup a silent band practice, 2 guitars bass vocals and electric drums, if I got the Tascam 16 would I still need an interface to record the practice? Also how would it work if we are all looking to wear headphones as well? Sorry new to the whole setup so trying to get it all nailed down.

Hi Sean, thanks for the question! The Model 16 can serve as a standalone system for you! It can help you silent practice, record your performances and even mix them, all without a computer! There are two dedicated aux outputs that can be used for headphone mixes. You will need a headphone amp to go with them, so check out something like the HA400 from Mackie. If you have any other questions, let me know!

I just need to get my stereo signal coming from my 10 channel analog mixer with RCA and 1/4in outs onto a wav file. I ultimately need one of those multitrack mixers.

Hi Mike, I recently, purchased a Tascam unit, a DP 03 SD, and What I’m trying to do, is record everything into the Tascam unit, via a device, interface, or especial splitting pedal that can be able to send my amplifier’s sound already processed by my pedal board’s effects. The problem that I am running with is that my amplifier, ‘’does not have a line out’’; like a headphones AUX. With an AUX, I can have an audio cable going from the amp’s AUX, into the input of the Tascam unit, but what is killing me is that my amp, ‘’doesn’t have an AUX’’. Also, I wanna mention that my amp, has an effects loops on the back; “SEND and RECEIVE”, I don’t know if this could be helpful as well for what I’m trying to do?
When it comes to recording, I can still record my guitar playing using my pedal board effects, all I have to do, is just connect my guitar to the beginning of my pedal board chain, and have the output of my pedal board chain, going straight to the Tascam’s input, but if I do that, my recording will be missing the richness of my tube amp; It’ll be just the signal of my guitar playing processed by my pedal board’s effects, and ‘’that’s it.’’
I know that what I’m trying to do, it can be done, since there are plenty of UA-cam videos of musicians recording their entire rigs; Effects Pedals, amps, etc., etc.…, using the Tascam DP-03SD Portable Studio, and they were able to accomplish that by using especial deceives, interfaces, or splitting pedals. The problem is that I have not find a single video, explaining how they were able to connect everything; amp plus effects pedal board, into the recording unit, or tutorials advertising and explaining what kind of devices are needed in order to accomplish what I am trying to do, and that many musicians out there, already accomplished.
Will appreciate your help with this matter.

1 year late, not sure you still need an answer, but i will answer for those who are going thru a similar situation.
There are a couple of ways around this. As you have already learned, you cannot just connect your pedal chain directly to the mixer (without it sounding awful, of course). In order to get a lush amp sound without using your amp, you need to buy an amp pedal, with an cabinet simulator pedal. This route is pretty expensive, but i think the investment is worth it if you are recording drums and playing guitar in the same room, so the drum recordings dont have bleed from your amp.
Alternatively, You can buy an SM57 (or Pyle PDMIC78 if you wanna go cheap) and Mic your guitar amp.
