How lucky we are to have Kelli O'Hara's brilliant performance recorded. What a doll! How can you not love Nellie after hearing her sing this song. She has such a big heart. It's because of what we learn hear that we stick with her when she's dealing with her inherent racism later in the story.
Ms. Ohara handles everything superbly here...I don't know if it is instinct, experience, or direction, but her blocking for the scene is so natural and subtly animated. In the film, the blocking is inert and the camera stationary....as a result, inertia, as a metric, is increased and has a heavily-weighted impact on a song that should float. That problem does not emerge here. Additionally, as others have already said, her voice was made for such show music. She is at the top of her game. All the better for modern audiences.
This is from a live broadcast made during the last week of the show's two year run. It was broadcast as part of PBS' Live From Lincoln Center series. Alan Alda was the elegant host. I'm sure that many thousands recorded it on their DVRs and excellent copies should not be hard to obtain. I don't think that you can call a copy a "bootleg" that was made from a live, free broadcast able to be recorded by anyone. Why doesn't Lincoln Center Theater sell a DVD themselves? They don't.
When I become a busy eye doctor next year, I'm going to put up a sign with a photo of Kelli O'Hara wearing spectacles that reads: "I'm a pre-occupied Oculist..." Or perhaps a picture of a squid looking at his eight watches: "I'm just a clock-eye octopus..."

We saw this performance and we will treasure it the rest of our lives. Paulo & Kelli are superb.

This entire production was on UA-cam, but subsequently was removed. I'm so disappointed -- it's a great antidote to the dated film version.
It was re-uploaded a few days ago and thankfully I watched it, but half an hour after I finished it was gone again!! I'm so frustrated
