I wish they made the Live from Lincoln Center PBS production a DVD release. it was such an amazing show!

I did see it, Oct 2008. It was terrific. And Funny, I said the same thing after I saw it, that Kelli was born to play this part. She was fantastic-the whole cast was, but she sure did shine.

The piano is absolutely beautiful here. It pains me to think Kelli did not win the Tony award for her performance. If you listen to other recordings, Mary Martin, Dinah Shore, etc., none of them are quite as good as Kelli in this role.
And Patti LuPone, of course, was very good and won the Tony that year. But something about Kelli's touching performance, perfect comedic timing, and superb singing voice made her performance one of THE very best ever done on Broadway.

This isn't Twin Soliloquies, but still- how beautiful and touching. What a magical way to tell someone that you love them.

"Twin Soliloquies," one of the most majestic moments in American musical lore, rivaled only by the bench scene which precedes "If I Loved You" in "Carousel."

@jakerson181 I saw the show in September 2009 -- from what I remember, O'Hara was on mat leave during that time. I personally loved Osmes' performance as Nellie -- I find her more attractive for the role (both visual and audio), but that's normally the case that you prefer whomever you saw/heard first.

LOVE this! What is it that Kelli says after the lady says break it up...I can't make it out.

She says "you'd kiss him too!" And she is right!! :-)

@juju1981 No, O'Hara had been back for a while then from maternity leave. It was a regular performance and she simply didn't show. I wouldn't have minded seeing Osnes who took her place during her leave and wasn't billed as an understudy but rather in the starring role for that period of time. People knew they would be seeing Osnes and not O'Hara during that period when they bought their tickets. Not so in my case.

While Mitzi Gaynor will always be my Nellie, I absolutely adore Kelli and Paulo. Just... GOD. *swoon*

But I loved Kelli so as I saw the show with my best friend who passed two years ago today!😪

Saw the show in November 2009. Paulo was fantastic. Unfortunately, Kelli couldn't be bothered to show up that evening and we saw her understudy who was OK. Is anyone as sick as I am of paying top dollar and seeing understudies?

Oh for Heaven's sake! Ezio Pinza was a bass, Paolo Szot is a baritone. Pinza was perfectly paired with Mary Martin, as Szot was with O'Hara (and I saw the Lincoln Center production "live").
