I spend more time looking at the boxes under the tables too! It's where all the goodies and fixer uppers live! I've found some incredible deals in them, great video Dave, thanks for sharing!
I just knew you'd be visiting Greenberg's Oaks show, Dave! I hope you had a great time. You came back with some interesting building pieces. I'll be interested to see how you use them. The videos were a real treat! Can't single out one layout that I liked the most. Usually, I enjoy the details and design of the O gauge ones. The Hi-Railers always catch my eye. Thanks for taking the time to tour and share.
Hello my friend Good news, I went to my first train show with your 30 dollars challenge in Steven's point Wi, but I did go through under the tables and found some stuff 😀
I had a great time at the train show as always, with you and Nick. I pretty much couldn't feel my feet by the time I went home. Thanks for the mention, I'll send those 3D print files to you.
Yow! Nice stuff. The pickups are sweet and there is a lot that you can do to them. That show looked amazing, as most Greenberg shows are. I liked the layout, with those passenger trains running. The scenery was pretty neat and the action was nice. Some progressive lenses might help your ability to read things, without being too close up. They helped me immensely. Either way, an excellent video, as always.
@@dagryffynhobby They sure take some getting used to. I found that when I went to larger lenses, that they were easier on the eyes, since there is more area for the progressive focus. Either way, I'm going to get back to a Greenberg show, in the near future. We used to take our club modular to the Monroeville show, for a number of years. It was a great time.
Prices seem really high compared to my local shows near Rochester, NY. We have sellers with 1980s prices and then some with down to earth pricing, like the modern Clear F-3 AA Set With 4 Passenger Cars for $300...should have bought it!!
If you're talking Post-Wars with 1980s prices on them I see them down here in VA as well. Some exhibitors haven't gotten the word yet but they seem to be in the minority now.
You were so close to getting the Thunder Rail Model Media Gold award until the time stamp 11:54 where it looks like some unknown person bumped you lol.
Dave it MUST be cold in the garage if you got to video in the house! I can understand, it's been pretty chilly down here too, I've got to run the quartz heater in the Chugger Barn for at least two hours before it's tolerable. Looks like you did fine at the show, those cars are pretty cool but I LOVE the Mercury! And that was a very touching tribute to Harry Henning the North Penn O Gaugers set up. Harry's truly going to be missed! 😢 We've got a Greenberg show coming up this weekend. About all I'm looking for at the moment are some good used Madison cars for repaint projects and some Harry Potter add-on cars. I got a Harry train two weeks before Christmas, lucked into an as-new used one at a good price. The engine's a great puller!
Yeah it’s cold, I just wasn’t in the mood for it! A lot of times I see the same diecast so it was nice to find that mercury. Nice, I have to start doing some repaints. I have a box of old passenger cars waiting.
I tend to exaggerate sometimes, I get in there on warmer days. I have two heaters, there is just so much heat loss it doesn’t retain any of it. It’s a longstanding project that keeps getting out on the back burner
@ I know what you mean. I delayed mine for about 15 years. Although my trains are in the basement, my work bench and building space is in my garage. Having a heated garage is a luxury that I have come to enjoy everyday. Next house will need to have a heated shop and a train room, together.
@ had I known I was going to get into it this much, I would have done the work before I started! But I figured I’d do trains for a while and then get bored and switch to a different hobby. Oh well.
@@dagryffynhobby Hmmm, sound familiar. I was going to finish my basement. Then my dad passed, I got his collection, as well as taking down and collecting his layout. Then had all this fun stuff on shelves in my basement. After months of floor running and monthly adding to my collection. I just Couldn't wait any longer. So I just started building a new layout. I may have a plan, but it has not revealed itself to me 😂
Nice #490 George Washington C&O even though it was made by Lionel. I'm sorry to hear about Harry Henning 😢 a loss to the O Gauge train community 🙏 for him and the family.
Dave, have a question for you. Your layout is out in your garage. What temperature do you not run your trains . Or if you heat your garage, to what temperature is best for running a train. Have our layout out in our garage, that’s why I am asking for information. “Thank you “ in advance for answering our questions. God’s blessings upon you and your family.
I am rather reckless with the temp. It gets down to mid thirties in there but I don’t usually run anything at that temp. Coldest is probably lower 40s and then just older postwar trains. They are sluggish for a bit until they warm up. Haven’t noted any issue with doing that. I tend to not run newer equipment at that temp. Maybe not unless it’s 50. I have electric heaters but the garage is so old it doesn’t retain any heat. I don’t really hang out in there unless it’s mid 40s.
“Thank you “ for your answers to our questions. We will better know when it’s best to run trains or not. And sorry about just now subscribing, I thought we were. Have a great day, God’s blessings to you.
I have no clue how 3D printing works or how it is possible to print out a set of trucks for rolling stock. Do you have any episodes where you talk about this very cool aspect of our hobby? I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
I don’t because I’m not that great at it. There are so many videos on it out there. I can give a basic description: you start with an 3d image file crated in cad software, open it in a program called slicing software, it then takes that 3d image and slices it into very thin layers depending on your specific printer, kind of like a cheese slicer, then save it as a G Code file, then put that new file into the printer and using a spool of plastic string, lays down those layers one at a time. It’s pretty amazing stuff
Man the hobby keeps evolving, eh? That is a very helpful "Cliff's Notes" introduction and synopsis as to what I need to look for. I don't have a computer or printer for that matter, but one can still learn without being able to produce. Thanks, Dave. Oh, my era is MPC-early 90s with a splash of new rolling stock when it catches my eye. O and O27 track, with the latter being what I have more of.
You just never know what you're going to find at these shows. I got there kinda late, about 11:30 and left by 3:30 and not surprised we missed each other. It was fairly crowded on Saturday but hey that's a good thing for our hobby. Lots of young people which is really important! I did find a few things I'd been looking for and some other things just on impulse. I will post my Oaks haul video on my channel shortly but needless to say I did willfully exceed the $20.00 TS challenge pretty quickly. 😉
Sorry I missed you again. I realized I’m looking down most of the time, so I guess that’s how I keep missing people. It was a good crowd, lots of families which I thought was nice. Exceeding the budget is ok when done on purpose!
I spend more time looking at the boxes under the tables too! It's where all the goodies and fixer uppers live! I've found some incredible deals in them, great video Dave, thanks for sharing!
I’ve sure found some good stuff down there!

Fantastic! Hope you got something good!
Happy New Year Dave. Sorry I missed you at the show! Thanks for sharing your purchases! I hope to see you soon.
Hey Happy New Year. Maybe the next one
Great to see you at Oaks. Thanx for spending a little time for me.😊
Nice seeing you too.
Nice Dave. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looked like alot of fun
It was!
Gotta love those trolleys. And keep the die cast coming...great deals. Thanks Dave !
Trolleys and dies casts are always fun!
Your Studebaker Hawk is cool I had a red one with a 4 speed back in high school.
That’s great! You just dont see Studebakers anymore

Always great hanging out. I was pretty shot by the end too.
Design Preservation Model buildings are great in my opinion. I’ve got so many of their building kits.
Cool. I was fiddling with the set the other day, really nice stuff
Really awesome haul you got from the oaks train show!
Thanks! Put a smile on my face
The wise buys, kool! Thank you Dave!
Thanks!
Yo I was there! Picked up a never opened first edition Lionel Santa Fe sd40 from 1982
Sweet!
great buys the buildings will be great to build your own creations for the layout
I sure hope so!

I have progressives I just can’t stand wearing them unless I’m driving.

As a Rochester local, I totally agree! I once got a Lionel 2026 for $30! In running condition!
It varies, there are a few sellers with postwar stock selling like its last century, but there is usually plenty of affordable items as well
You were so close to getting the Thunder Rail Model Media Gold award until the time stamp 11:54 where it looks like some unknown person bumped you lol.

I planned on going. But had to go to Maryland.
