I got through it! It was a busy day, I loaded all that stuff in my car after work, brought it home and moved it all to the train room, then went through all of it.
Congratulations! My friend Ward Kimball had some of the German cars in his collection and the ones with the roofs that open, if my mind is still working, were the most desirable.
Wow!!!Awesome collection video I'm glad you got such a cool hual I Love that stuff specially some of those cars and Really Love those Oil rig drillers or pumps Love to have those
3854 merch car ,,home run, the German trains are very cool, tuff to find, try not to fall off your chair when you look them up,lol, keep them as is no paint..great find ty for sharing...also the maroon generator is a keeper ,,nice pickup!
Wow, what a haul! You've got some really nice Lionel stuff. Wish I could add some of that to my Lionel collection for the layout. I have the coal elevator that I repainted. I bought out a guy at a flea market several years ago. Cheers from eastern TN
Very nice haul video here! The Marx crazy couplers are actually the prewar era couplers male and female couplers the one Canadian pacific engine I have by marx I believe same as the one in the video has those couplers as well.
The little "house" on the german car is basically a shelter for the brakeman that would ride the car. Before air brakes, the germans had brakemen ride on one car that had a brake handle, and sometimes would have another beside with the brake handles next to eachother so one man could do two brakes, instead of having 4 or 5 that would run along the top of the train like we did here in America But yeah, it's just a shelter for the brakeman
And with the German trains, if you want to sell them, do not restore them cosmetically, otherwise the collectors will 100% not want them, it would be quite literally burning money. However, I recommend keeping them, restoring both cosmetically and operationally, and running them, it would be quite a treat for almost anyone lol
Brakeman shelter makes sense. It just looks so whimsical on that car. I hope to be able to keep them. Trains have more value to me in terms of joy than they do in money.
hi dave the marx crazy coplers as you put it are in fact one way couplers by marx trying there hand at real operation rather than tab and slot they even had there own version of a uncoupling track section hope this helps
And those fork couplers, if they are plastic, work with the tab and slots. If they are metal you can put a slot in them to make them work with tab and slot.
The LWs are very nice transformers. I have the one my Dad bought after I was born, getting his Prewar trains ready to run again. That Märklin 1 gauge will be worth some coin. Since you have the track to go with it, I'd keep most of it and get it running.
That is a 164 Log loader at 3:13 made by Lionel from 1940 - 1942 and from 1946 -1950. If the supports holding the chain conveyor are painted gray it is probably a prewar version, otherwise they are silver for the postwar version.
I figured that out about the tower much later lol. I think I saw a picture of the tower and then realized. The 3854 is awesome. Don’t know if I have the crates or not, will have to look
Holy jeez Dave, I think you might have stumbled on a remnant of Hermann Goering's lost Maerklin collection! I mean, it disappeared after the war and had to go somewhere! OK, I'm joking, but that Maerklin set was top-of-the-line in its day and yes, you called it right. It's GErman #1 Gauge, just a step up from O and from what I've been told the gauge of #1 track is the same as G Gauge the major difference being G obviously doesn't have the center rail. A very good set to have lucked into! I've got one of those Lionel GE Lehigh Valley engines, I've had it since the 1960s. A bit of cleaning, lubing, maybe some motor servicing and you should get good service from it. Not super-great puller but a reliable one. "Made In The US Zone Germany." An interesting relic of the Post-War Occupation which ran from 1945 to 1951. The Heathkit box sure got my attention! I never built any Heathkits but I remember the brand, real home electronics stuff kind of like Radio Shack used to be. And those newspapers wouldn't happen to be the "Bergen Record," would they? Man, you've sure got plenty to keep you busy! A fun and fascinating video, "Toy Train Archaeology" at it's best! Thanks for posting! (Wish I was there to share the fun!)
Toy train archeology, that might make a good slogan on a shirt. The 44 toner is nice, the whole set is. I’ll definitely clean it up and run it a couple times but it will probably need to find a new home.
Really nice collection of fun stuff! 13:54 What can I trade you for the 2420 Spotlight Caboose? I can fix up some of those accessories for you. Hope to see you at Allentown. Enjoyed the video.
@@dagryffynhobby That larger Marklin 4-4-0 is a very valuable loco, usually $1500-4500 depending on variation and condition- great finds, you were really blessed!
@dagryffynhobby alright I'll be getting with you I have alot of High-end Locomotives from Visionline- Lionel legacy- Altas Premier - Mth Premier- Everything Scaled Size ..Including 💯 s and 💯 s Cars And Accessories All Is New as Well..Happy Railroading
Wow!!! That's some awesome stuff Dave! It was like opening Christmas presents with you! LOL. Some very interesting and fascinating trains and accessories in them there dusty old boxes! Especially the German made trains and accessories, there's something definitely different than American trains and accessories. Some of their rarer trains appear to be like one offs made by the A-typical German clock makers, but the production variants seem to be like a Marx quality. Very cool stuff my man!
Finding the 3854 merchandise car in the wild would make my day! Great trains you unboxed!
Had I known what it was I probably would have lost it! It’s a gorgeous car for sure.
You're tired, Dave? Hold on, I'm on my way to finish for you! 😃
I got through it! It was a busy day, I loaded all that stuff in my car after work, brought it home and moved it all to the train room, then went through all of it.
That’s a nice collection! Looking forward to seeing how you’re going to restore the tracks and switches the most. Nice video, fully watched.😊
Thanks! I’d like to know how I’m going to do it as well! First I need appropriate power supply for the 32v
WOW! A lot of goodies for sure. You will have fun working on all those pieces. 👍🔥🙏💪❤️🇺🇸
It’s just boxes and boxes of joy!
There are definitely some interesting and valuable pieces in that collection. Keep us posted. Thanks Dave 👍
Thanks. Will do!
Wow! A box full of surprises! That German engine looks very interesting! Best of luck getting it working but if anybody can do it, you can! Enjoy!
Thanks! I just need to find the appropriate 32v transformer then I’ll see if I can get them going.
That Z Scale stuff was a good find
It’s very cool, I can’t believe a steam engine that small actually runs
Congratulations! My friend Ward Kimball had some of the German cars in his collection and the ones with the roofs that open, if my mind is still working, were the most desirable.
Thanks. The passenger cars are amazing.
Now you have to build a mountain and have that Z-scale set going ‘round it!
That’s a good idea. Or maybe as a park ride for the kids
That engine IS totally cool!!
It is!
Nice! The bridge is a Lionel 314. Very solid. I like the Marx bridges better, but those are very good bridges.
That sure looks like the Lionel set that I got for Christmas in about 1958. Dad bought at Gibble hardware in Hemet Ca.
Very nice!
Wow!!!Awesome collection video I'm glad you got such a cool hual I Love that stuff specially some of those cars and Really Love those Oil rig drillers or pumps Love to have those
Those square looking hopper German cars wonder if those were coal cars
Lots of great stuff for sure
What an amazing array of collectibles, Dave. Hope you can make use of them. Lots of work ahead! I hope you were able to sleep that night!
Thanks and I slept ok. Surprisingly my allergies weren’t too bad. I can’t wait to work on some of this stuff

Wow, you’ve picked up some cool items.
I did. Hopefully I get to keep some of it!
Thank you Dave what an interesting bunch of Trains so very kool
Thanks! I really enjoyed going through all of it
What a nice experience to open everything.
Like Christmas morning!

I couldn’t believe some of the stuff - probably won’t have enough space for the accessories
Very nice haul video here! The Marx crazy couplers are actually the prewar era couplers male and female couplers the one Canadian pacific engine I have by marx I believe same as the one in the video has those couplers as well.
Ah gotcha. I’ll have to play with them and see what I think.
good haul!
I enjoyed it!
Great haul video! I like the unboxing of the collection and it all looks amazing.
Thanks! Yeah it was all good stuff
Dave, that 3854 is a definite score. Mine came to me in a similar way.
Be careful if you take it apart. The body is fragile.
It’s a nice one! No plans to molest that car in any way!
WOOOW Christmas in October! Will be interesting to see the Marklin stuff run.
Me too! Hopefully there won’t be too many hurdles
The Marklin gauge one is really nice and very collectible over here in Europe, it’s top quality
Cool. It’s gorgeous stuff. I have to get a transformer to power it so I can check it out
Quite a bonanza, Dave! 😎👍
I had so much fun going through all of it
Meeces like anything soft to build a nest!
They sure do!
awesome collection
Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it

31:45 that's the top to the 193 tower you pulled out earlier. The 3854 is worth some $, should have 6 Baby Ruth crates with it.

That german stuff is $!$!$!$! Possibly prewar Marklin.
Yeah prewar marklin gauge 1, it’s very cool
Lionel El anything is a good find. Any numbers stamped on those Heathkit boxes?Like W5m or WA-P2, Interested.
Nope sorry, the motor kit sold already.

Don’t know if I’m letting the spotlight car go or not. I’ll certainly pick your brain if I have issues with any of these accessories
Just Out: Dave gets rid of all his O gauge; creates new Z scale layout. Now has room in his garage for his White Freightliner restoration . . .
Haha yes definitely lol
Those are Marklin - the tender and covered car, circa 1920
Yep, Marklin locos and cars from the 1920s
American frieght cars - but that isn't a caboose it it's a German style baggage car
More Marklin - DO NOT restore those except for the ones with almost complete paint loss
Thanks. I’m a fan of the original worn look, a repaint would only be in the table for me if the paint was beyond saving
