I've always loved what Tom Morello did, his way of thinking attitude, sound and playing, regardless of bands he played in. Lars is flat-out amazing here. Period.
I think the reason why Lars is such a good interviewer is because he knows exactly how it feels to be horribly interviewed about his own music. Kudos 👌❤
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE WILL REUNITE , ZACK ISNT MAKING MONEY LOL :) AND AS FOR CHRIS CORNELL ? :( OH WELL GOD BLESS HIS GOOD SOUL, MAYBE HIS BROTHER PETER CORNELL WILL FRONT AUDIOSLAVE IN THE FUTURE, WHO KNOWS?
I'm not a Metallica fan (but I worship the black album, but that's not the point), but everyone will agree with me that Lars is a rock god. For a rock god, he's so respectful and meek in these interviews that it makes him even greater as a person.
Audioslave was my introduction to Cornell. I never knew him from Soundgarden. After that 1st Audioslave album, I delved into Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearjam, Alice in Chains...
There are not too many people in the world that can interview these musicians like Lars does where you see these guys with their guard damn near fully let down and enjoying the conversation 100% - great stuff!
I know Lars wont see this, but the moments he and Tom were discussing about their bands killin it on stage was what really did it for me with Metallica. It was Long Beach Arena, And Justice for All tour, Queensryche opened ( they were great too BTW, but...) Metallica plays Creeping Death and the arena erupts with "Die, Die..by my hand" it was over for me! Metallica was the greatest band I had ever experienced!
Damn dude, Morello put together such an all-star list...Pretty Lights Color Map of the Sun is one of my favorite records...could listen to it every day and not get sick of it...and I'm a metalhead Metallica fan of 20+ years! Very inspiring!!
Great interview. Tom is seriously one of the greatest guitarists of all time. His approach to guitar is literally like no other. How he combines effects to make sounds or just does things outside of the box. On Bulls on Parade, I always thought that was a DJ scratching, I didn’t know it was him scraping the string with his pick! Such a good dude and amazing musician
I can't stand why people dislike something like this, a lot of information, knowledge, experiences, that you can learn something from it, and you just seat and blame about how your life is empty, sad and angry.
Because they are expressing a visceral emotion that overrides their behaviour and rationality. Lars is a great interviewer with great pacing and voice. Tom is passionately talking about his craft. There is nothing to dislike.
Great interview. Lars is a massive Rage fan and he kept his fanboy humble here. Great questions. It's fascinating that they are practically the same age too. Lars was killing it at 18 with Metallica and Morello was nearly 30 when Rage first hit the scene.
One of the greatest interviews of all time. Great chemistry, great host, great guest, excellent stories from both sides. I asked tom morrello the same question about rage's breakup a few years ago in Silver Lake..and he respectfully gave me a non answer.. like none of your business.. haha but he spent my birthday with me nonetheless and it was an incredible night.. fun guy! I had no idea how rad lars is as a Host.. hes genuine and interested. I'm glad someone here in L.A. on KLOS mentioned this podcast... I'm going to binge listen all the way to vegas today. This podcast makes up for the lack of quality music today, I can just listen to interviews made by the masters of rock and metal. Very inspiring and intriguing. Thanks lars.
Straight up futurist talk. Does anyone else feel like checking out the album now? After Nightwatchman, good to see Mr. Morello has got his groove back.
I’m so glad I stumbled upon this! Morello gets me! From KISS to Wu tang to K Flay To Gary Clark Jr he’s bringing the best of both world together! 🙌🏽⚡️🤘🏽🎸🤓🎙🎛🎚📽🎧
2:49 absolutely, still not an edm fan, but I definitely had some early experiences with a few artists that made me feel exactly the same, it’s like another form of heavy metal, at least it COULD be.
YES! I've always said Tom was carrying on the spirit of Hendrix! So cool to hear his inspiration for this new one. Can't wait for this! :D edit: although, it is interesting that he is going the email/ pro tools not recording live route. In the spirit of Hendrix it would be cool to put these other guys up live and see what they improvise and how good an authentic performance is from these artists who have been doing pro tools and gmail for 20 years, kind of hard to see Tom going outside of that particular box, but that's how music is today, what can you do? Still, I can dig it :) the creativity is really what makes it good, and he did say "today version of Hendrix" or whatever so I get it :) Hendrix was trying to do a "todays type of blues" so pretty cool to see the progression lol
My favorite show of my life was...9:30 Club Washington DC....10/31/99....pre battle of LA, I was a Sophomore at Georgetown....I tore a poster off the wall, and was at the rails - that poster is in storage in Massachusetts I plan to hand it down to my son....
@@red149 Honestly, I'm pretty old. I've never downloaded a song or an album, but I have every Metallica album on vinyl, CD, or cassette (even St. Anger).
selw0nk His beef was with who has control over the music. It should be up to the band to release a track, not someone who uploads it to a website for people to download. It’s pretty easy to grasp when you listen to Ulrich explain his side of it. To simplify, imagine owning a restaurant. A customer comes in and asks for a pizza. You - the chef- prepares it, then puts it in the oven. Then, some guy who works in the kitchen takes it out of the oven before it’s been cooked properly and distributes the slices of (uncooked) pizza for free to everyone at the restaurant. He does this with all the food in your kitchen and not only gives it out for free to everyone in the restaurant but for free to anyone who wants it. They eat your food, some of it uncooked, some of it ill prepared and some it how the food should be. He’s handing it out to everyone for free, saying it’s your food and associates it to you (even though most of it isn’t the finished product). You make nothing in return. I think I already know how you’d feel about it.
Lars is a fantastic interviewer. Long overdue!
Lars Ulrich is such a great interviewer!
the fact you got lars interviewing tom is absolutely incredible
I've always loved what Tom Morello did, his way of thinking attitude, sound and playing, regardless of bands he played in.
Lars is flat-out amazing here. Period.

Exactly. The only people I feel are qualified to interview musicians.. Are musicians!
We need an “it’s electric” with Serj Tankian or anyone from SoaD!
Shavo!
Tom and Lars have the perfect voices for podcasting, it's so relaxing.
Lars asks great questions!
Lars er kongen...
20+ years later this guy is still filled with intensity and excitement when it comes to creating music.
I love so much this 2 guys and watching them having a talk about things like music it's just so beautiful
I could listen to them talk for hours
Still not giving up on Rage getting back together. It has to happen.
Jason Barker I wish audioslave would come back :(
king kyrie no more Chris tho, :(

Ahhh great choice for an interview, Lars kills at this too
Lars is a pretty great interviewer! cant deny that!
Love Lars as an interviewer...Love Tom's energy!😁

Lars is the most intelligent rockstar and that's why most people hated him.
He gets a bad rap. But seems like a cool guy.
He's been a part of a band that's survived decades longer than bands before and after them.
Black album lol
Yeah, besides And Justice, he's cool.
History will look back on Audioslave as one of the greatest bands of all time
For me the best ROCK album of the 2000's
Audioslave was my introduction to Cornell. I never knew him from Soundgarden. After that 1st Audioslave album, I delved into Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearjam, Alice in Chains...
So much respect for Lars after hearing these interviews. So well done.
Interview Dave Mustaine
oof.
Hahahahahhahha
They are chill. Lars loves Dave. Dave loves Lars on certain days lol
Or the Napster guy.
interview Jason Newsted and turn his volume off !! :))))
just a joke !
One of the best interviews Beats 1 has done ever, an absolute legend.
There are not too many people in the world that can interview these musicians like Lars does where you see these guys with their guard damn near fully let down and enjoying the conversation 100% - great stuff!
Lars is a great interviewer because he knows how to listen.
normally he likes the sound of his own voice
Except with his bandmembers lol
@@chrisverstappen7252 Think you're mistaking Lars for Dave Mustaine

Jeff Myron what you say is absolutely the reason he should be held in the same regard as Hendrix, van halen, etc. True innovator
I've always said he is carrying on the spirit of Hendrix! well said! :)
Him and Dimebag used effects outside the box
Someones trying to be funny again lol
great interview. Lars really has a knack of pulling good story out of every one
Thanks for this interview. The more I hear from Tom in interviews the more I appreciate him as a person.
"combustible energy " has been the catalyst of some of the greatest music in rock.
I could listen to these guys talk all day long. Please more of these interviews with Lars!
Morello kicks ass! Great interview. RATM will always be one of my all time favorite bands.

For the first time, i like Lars Ulrich, he´s a nice interviewer
Tom Morello is an interesting guy. Love this interview
I just saw him live last night in Sacramento, possibly best concert I've been to!
Tom is such a lovely guy. So passionate about human rights and music and Lars is really great at giving interviews.
Two of the GOATs and two of my personal favorite musicians. Well done interview!
After all these years of creating awsome music. Tom seems really passionate about his new record I am happy for him.
Rage, Pretty Lights, and Bassnectar. Three of my favorite things. I cannot wait for this album.

Awesome interview with two legends. Keep it up BBC ♥
Joe Satriani's "Engines of Creation" album from 2000 is all EDM with heavy metal guitars and virtuoso soling. Check it out!
This was really good. Both guys brought it.

Really funny to hear this story as Brad would later play with Chris in a band and Matt Cameron would go to play with pearl jam
