Many Large companies such as AT&T, Walmart, Cisco, GE, Citrix, etc. has not done lay offs, mostly the larger FAANG and alike companies are doing it. Over hiring and platue growth has lead to such a situation.

In my college I didn't see any impact on placements, they are more or less the same as last year. One thing that changed for my branch(ECE) is that this year core companies have given better or at least the same magnitude of opportunities as software ones. Last year software jobs were dominating in ECE too. PS : I am not from an IIT/NIT but my college (RVCE) has placements similar to many good NITs.
