It's clear to see Tom's growth as a content creator. His charisma in this video is inspiring.
I wish I could wave a magic wand and instantly increase your viewer/subscriber count 10 fold. Your channel is criminally (and magically for that matter) under appreciated. Unlike other ensemble review channels on UA-cam, I thoroughly enjoy every single video by every contributor. To be completely honest I never really considered myself a huge tabletop fan. That being said, you lot have managed to get me to to watch 30min+ videos about games I’m fairly certain I will never play and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it! Your content never fails to brighten my day. Thank you!

@@ThePSaco I was about to jump in and correct you, and mention Dice Tower. But damn SUSD surpassed them. Congrats SUSD, love both channels. But it is surprising (and a bit sad) given boardgames went totally mainstream that the top review channels have only 280k subs.

I agree. I didn't even have many board games except for Monopoly and playing cards (which is a travesty in retrospect), but I've been a fan of this channel ever since the print n play video showed up in my recommended video list one day. The humour in these reviews is thoroughly entertaining and stands on its own
It’s taken them a strangely long time to realize they can just elevate the platform to get the game higher for the shot rather than having to hunch over the board in every frame.
Well deserved re-review! It's my favourite (social/party) game!
I personally think it's best in a 3vs3 setting:
- This leaves two players to discuss after a hint has been given, strengthening the social aspect of the game. (Otherwise it's just 1 person interpreting the whole team code by him or herself)
- Also adds a bit more time between rounds where you have to come up with hints. Giving hints can be stressful, so once every 3 rounds I personally prefer.
I'd definitely say minimum 3v3, 4v4 also works. SU&SD play a lot of 2 or 3 player games though. So getting 4 people together probably feels like a lot. I never play games with less than 4 people anymore.

Matt I can’t believe how happy the Coup update makes me. When I did my theatre degree, our dressing room was always tense as hell, show after show, all because of our deadly little friend coup. Been keeping us going during lockdown too with an online version!
This game made my girlfriend question our compatibility. Still loving it tho.
If you want more of the same Codenames Duet is great for it!
To me it happened with Citadels, not playing that game anytime soon

Actually met Thomas as he goes to the same boardgame cafe as I do. Nice interesting guy. I did not know about his games at the time and he showed me Decrypto. Glad that it is getting this level of recognition, I'm looking forward to his next projects too!
Maybe it's because this video was following a written review of the same game, but the "why" there's a struggle between giving easy clues to your team but hard ones for your opponent didn't seem to get a decent explanation! I had to piece it together from the visuals myself and then explain it to the two other people who watched the video with me because it wasn't clear that at the end of a round the code will be known to both teams, and so they'll be able to write down what number each of your clues was trying to refer to (and that over multiple rounds with multiple clues, they can compare multiple clues and try to work out what links them!). Possibly this was because there's already a written review that had this sort of covered, or maybe we just completely missed something, but it felt like a crucial part of how the game creates its tension!

Oh man I love this game to death. Almost literally, my family and I have resorted to regular paper since we ran out of the pages that come with it.
I ended up making custom score books using Lulu Xpress. The spiral-bound Digest size ends up fitting in the box perfectly, and it allows you to have both teams' clue sheets facing up simultaneously instead of having to flip back and forth. Unfortunately, Lulu Xpress doesn't allow you to share designs for others to buy, and Lulu doesn't offer the spiral-bound digest size.

- Reference Pear succeeded his goal as a betrayer and burned down Paul's house.

The existence of an android Tom does not necessitate the non-existence of other Toms, android or otherwise.

Got decrypto in french in Essen, signed by the lovely booth team, loved to play it regularly with my friends and family.
Fast forward to now: divorced, living in Germany, no one I know here speaks french.

Yeah! Love Decrypto. I played it once and immediately got rid of my copy of Codenames. Favorite clue to date? "Elm" for "Nightmare" ... a classic.
Great re-review! It's deceptively difficult to explain, but once you start playing it really clicks. It scratches that codenames itch, but it's more fun collectively building a set of clues to befuddle the other team. The moment you successfully decrypt the other team's sequence it really feels like you cracked a code. Such a good game, shame you need at least 6 to play a full, proper round.
Yeah, simple game but I always find it tricky to teach, then it suddenly clicks. No idea why.
Your best performance. Loved it. I literally had to pause the video while I laughed out loud at your ramblings about "Break the Code". "What are you doing here? What are you even doing here?" Hilarious. Thanks! Sometimes I don't even care about the game, you guys are just so entertaining.

I bought this game on a whim because I liked the box art and theme, having never heard of it before. One of my best purchases ever. This game is PERFECT.
I played a couple weeks ago and I was so proud of the clue "pickle" for the codeword "spear". My team failed me, miserably.

Coup is pretty fun. I’ve only played a few games of it, but I’ve had great fun each time. The last group I played with used our Reformation expansion, and are excited to come and play again with more experience under their belt.

Love, love, love this game. Bought it by accident (store owner recommended it and I thought it was Crosstalk) and was shocked by how amazingly good it was. A little tricky to teach but so, so, so much fun.

Cool. As someone who loves Code names but the novelty is wearing a little thin, I might have to pick this up.

yep basically replaced all the other team word games for me, i love the fact they build on each other so you have to actually try and give hard clues.

Matt's description of the game left me very confused. There are win tokens for guessing the other team's clues, and lose tokens for failing to guess your own team's clues. But the expansion introduces tokens that when you get two... allow you to guess the other team's words? Isn't that already how you get win tokens?
Hello, I thought this as well but it turns out that the win tokens are awarded for correctly guessing the other teams three-digit code (e.g. 4-2-3)! There is no part of the (base) game where you have to guess the other team's words! Hope that helped :)

This was one of the first board games I bought, and based on your recommendation. Absolutely cracking, great for folks/ family who are pretty novice to board games too. Thank you. Neat to know about the expansion, might pick that up at Christmas.
Sometimes I have to step back a minute and think "How did we get here and why do I love it?" Like during "Tom's" review, it's a great relationship with your audience when you can have a shabbily made dummy with a mop for hair speaking robot and I'll *still* support these nerds. :)
A great game, but boy-howdy is it polarizing. Some of my friends love it, some just hate it. Still worth giving it a shot!

Tom has clearly been the SUSD supercomputer this entire time.
I feel like having it where the clue has to be based around the meaning of the word and then having "canon" as one of the options is just Evil.
It was a bit hard to understand the point of the game from this review though. I had to watch another review to get the main idea/mechanic; that you use the same cards for every round and that the opposing team is recording the other team's clues from previous rounds in order to build up a pattern in order to guess the words and the code in later rounds based on the similiarities of clues in each round.

Hi SUSD. Wondering if you would do a review of the Forsaken Forest? Perhaps in time for the Kickstarter campaign on the Spirit uprising expansion.
I'm not sure I fully understand the rules. If your team guesses the combination correctly, then won't they easily guess those words when they later appear? Same thing with the other team intercepting, they'll easily get the words when they next appear.
how do you compare this to captain sonar? Does it do something other and/or better?
