Leno kicked everybody’s ass for 22 years, balls of steel? They both know controversy is good for ratings. Leno was a complete pro As was Kimmel.
The thing is Kimmel's attacking Jay here for agreeing to NBC's plan to bump Conan 30 minutes to try and bring "The Tonight Show" ratings back up. "Leave our shows alone!" he screams at him. But over the phone Kimmel apparently told Jay he was surprised Conan wouldn't atleast try the 12:05 bump. Worse, Kimmel has now bumped "Nightline" from it's historic 11:35 start time to 12:35. Why does Jimmy put down Jay for something he's now done himself? Double Standard, Mr. Kimmel.

I never understood why Leno came back after leaving the first time. He had more money than most small countries and didn't need the drama. I can't imagine he missed the spotlight that much, but that must have been it. I can't stand Jimmy Kimmel. He's too political and it's just tiring listening to him crush everyone he doesn't like or who don't see the world the way he does.

come on, are we to believe this wasn't scripted, Jay could have gone to a commercial or just ended Kimmel's appearance.
I wasn't a fan of Leno before all of this either (apparently Conana had all the good writters) but I think he held up well in this moment of bashing.

I have a new found respect for Jimmy Kimmel.
Kimmel's a dumbass to begin with. Leno didn't decide this shit, the NBC execs did. They're the ones who tried to keep both happy, and failed miserably. They should have left well enough alone, or straight up fired Leno, instead of trying to keep him on.

ERA CASTE well the writers on all the shows are friends with each other. Almost all the writers and staff on Conan’s show moved from NYC to Los Angeles WITH their families. I’m sure they were happy about putting a hundred people out of work

It was not live, all talk shows are pre-recorded, but Jimmy said in an interview Leno's team came over to Jimmy's theater to link up to Leno's show, and they had to keep it all in, as there were 10 questions and NBC could not edit it, so Jimmy knew it would stay in, even though it did not air live.
I remember when this happened and it made me a lifelong Kimmel fan. The balls to do what he did cannot be understated. Also, it revealed just how weak and how much of a company man Leno was -- to stand there and take the digs and just awkwardly laugh in agreement was bizarre for a supposed comedian. Carson used to banter with his guests (like Charles Grodin) and keep up with their playful insults. The fact that Leno could not come up with ANYTHING funny to disarm Kimmel just made it even clearer how ill suited he was for a show like that.

I can imagine how lame this bit would've been had Kimmel not said what he did. Those were the lamest, dumbest questions. Perhaps Jay was knocked off his game when Kimmel started in on him, but he was so not funny at all during this bit. Was this supposed to be the best he could do? What a lame-ass Leno was.

Apparently Kimmel did this because after making fun of Leno on his show Leno asked for this interview and was trying to make Leno and Kimmel seem like friends when they in fact are not and so he decided to do this. According to Kimmel, Leno once initiated a friendship when he was having some sort of deal with ABC but when that didn’t happen Leno stopped being friends. Basically he faked a friendship and when it wouldn’t benefit him stopped contacting Kimmel at all.

I miss Leno and The Fruitcake lady. Leno wasn't mean spirited and had a dry sense of humor. Kimmel is just truly nasty.
While I agree with you to an extent (I have always loved Conan), the point here really is a lack of respect/class on Leno's part.
Leno "handed the torch" to Conan, and now he is taking it back. No one is forcing Jay to take this new time slot. He is letting this whole debacle unfold and acting like he can do nothing to stop it.
Jay should have left network television at the top of his game like Jerry Seinfeld did.
Honestly, Jay will probably be canceled, even in the new time slot.

@rajbtor Although you provide a compelling arguement, most of the late night talk show hosts respect each other highly, and what Jay Leno did to Conan is inexcusable, therefore I believe they are just sticking up for Conan, and also most likely to gain a few Coco fans.

Good stuff Kimmel.For those that don't know,all the questions on those late shows are given to the guest the day before hand,and the answers returned before the show tapes so the host has a joke or comment on them.You can tell Kimmel had the prearranged answers down,but the unexpected bombs he threw Jay took on the chin.
Too bad this is the only way to watch the clip. I will never understand who on Earth has ever enjoyed TYT.

Apparently Leno had been working Kimmel to agree to Leno moving to ABC and become Kimmel‘s lead in, but only to have that option as a bargaining chip in negotiations with NBC. When the deal was done, Kimmel never heard from Leno again. He felt used, and this segment was also payback for that.
Kimmel, Letterman, Leno, Fallon, they are all the same. Boring. Ferguson and Conan are the only two who can get me laughing. They are the only ones worthy of shows.

Kimmel and I believe many comedians felt Conan's pain. Especially as a talk show host, knowing Jay would've done it to him or anyone.
4:47 is why I hate her/my generation and why to this day I still can't stand Ana being on the show most of the time - even though she has her moments. I live for late night TV. Nothing has given me as much joy in life as Letterman, Conan, Stewart, Colbert, Kimmel and Ferguson have - except may be a certain kind of self-massage. I cannot respect anyone who does not at least appreciate it from a cultural and social impact perspective. You don't even have to get the comedy in it, leave that to the stand up comics that look up to the hosts and the fans who know funny when they hear and see it. I get that there are people who have no sense of humor. But calling late night "boring" is like calling a raging wildfire a fresh breeze. It's a display of utter ignorance.
