In this short video I take you on a quick tour of one of my stunning new poured paint original artworks called 'That's Life'. This was created with a series of interlocking poured paint applications from two multi-chamber pouring cups then gently spun on my motorized spin table.
You can see more of the painting here: swarezart.com/modern-art-pain... and see it created on the live stream here: • Split cup PAINT POURIN...
The name comes from the lyrics to a very famous song but this version that I was inspired by comes from David lee Roth - and here are the song lyrics I mention:
    That's life, that's life
That's what all the people say.
    You're riding high on Monday,
    Shot down in May.
But I, I ain't never gonna change my tune
When I'm back on top in the month of June.
    I said, that's life. That's life
Ain't as funny as it may seem,
    Some people get their kicks
    Stompin' on a dream.
But I, I don't never let it get me down
'Cause that big ol' world keeps spinnin' 'round.
Been a puppet, pirate, a poet, a pauper, a pawn and a king.
Been up and down and over and out and I know one thing:
Each time that I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race.
    That's life, that's life
    And I can't deny it,
Many times I thought of quitting, babe,
But my heart wouldn't buy it.
If I didn't think it was worth one try
I'd jump right on a big bucket and fly.
Been a puppet, poet, pirate, pauper; now I'm a king.
Been up, down, I know one thing:
Each time that I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race.
    That's life, that's life
    And I can't deny it,
Many times I thought of quitting, babe,
But my heart wouldn't buy it.
If I didn't think it was worth one try
I'd just roll myself up in a big ball and fly.

that's impressive, sir, it gives your artwork a whole new dimension and makes it look way more appealing thanks to the added volume. I reckon there's no chance of the paper-like material ripping apart when you stretch it over the canvas like that?

It's a very heavy weight canvas so there is little chance of it tearing unless you are very heavy handed with the canvas pliers

I remember the live stream where you created this one - one of the few that I've been able to catch lately - and I must say that it dried beautifully! So many terrific textures emerged and pushed it's visual interest even further than when you first painted it. From start to finish, this one has really been a delight. One question, though. I noticed while you were stretching it that you didn't appear to use a heat - gun like you have on previous paintings and I'm wondering if you have a rule of thumb when it comes to applying heat to a finished canvas.

Great question buddy! You are of course correct - the heat gun is used on an assessment basis for each piece. if the ambient temperature is sufficiently high enough we tend to be okay. Or if the paint is still relatively flexible or if the paint isn't too thick then we may not need it.
This is just an experience thing Joseph - time has taught us what to look for and how to judge things for the best. I reckon 6 out of 10 need a heat gun over the curse of the seasons. Right now (January) it's not a good time even with a heat gun as the ambient air temperature cools everything too quickly so we have to be very careful!!!
