In this video you can follow my 5 simple steps to packing almost any painting perfectly.
I show you the tools and materials you will need - including an ingenious way to protect the front of virtually any artwork.
Easy steps include:
1. wrapping with 2 sheets of foam wrap
2. cutting a piece of polycarbonate roofing sheet
3. wrapping in bubble wrap
4. finishing with pallet wrap
5. taping the whole thing up to finish
Plus I give you examples of what my Certification paperwork looks like, tips on tape, paying attention to the corners and other useful nuggets of wisdom based on years of shipping valuable artworks on canvas.

To comment on the bubble wrap; I once sent an oil painting wrapped in acid free brown paper with bubble wrap and I had the bubbles in. When it got to it's destination, the varnish had taken on the circles on the bubbles. Luckily I was able to correct it for them when I was in their area a couple weeks later.
So yea, no more bubble wrap faced in, and I put a piece of cardboard between the first layer and the bubbles :p
Glad the video was helpful!
Yep I'm a resin artist and learnt the hard way about the bubbles too! Always face out!
Thank you. This was very very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutly fantastic! Thank you so much!!

A snow emergency just declared from 6p.m.this evening, till 12 p.m. on Sunday here in the Midwestern U.S. - And who jumps into my feed but Swarez wrapping a painting!
We found it amusing that you're wrapping a parcel, and were wrapped in blankets waiting for the house to warm back up from an outage early this morning!
Good information to know! You and Ady stay warm!
I hope you stay wrapped up and warm!
Yes, and this is somewhat involved so I’ll save for another day.
Much love and respect to you and your channel. Thank you for what you do and doing this video.
I appreciate that

Thanks and you are welcome!
Thank you for the video! I am shipping a big painting today and I was trying to figure out how get a box the right size (boxes are absurdly expensive for no apparent reason). Your technique gets rid of the need for a box, so thank you so much!

Glad it was helpful Jane!
Thank you for such vital information so generously shared - also useful when moving studio/home.
Indeed and thanks for your thoughts!
Thank you for the excellent example of how to ship a painting. I believe that is the best I have seen online. the poly sheeting board is perfect for this and probably any other product that needs protection. Love your accent too..
Wow, thank you! Glad you found it helpful and thanks, ahem, for the accent compliment!!
Omg thank you so much! This really helps I’ve been so worried about making larger pieces but this really makes me feel a whole lot more confident!!!
You’re very welcome 😉
Thanks.. Very clear. I've often wondered which is best way to package up large canvasses.
Thank you!!! Just what i needed!!
You're welcome!
Great step-by-step-video, You guys are so professional. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Helle!
Bubble wrap OUT! Always.
Thank you so much for this information. Incredibly helpful.
You are so welcome Sarah!!!
Great vid! :) Of course you have to see the expenses of the packaging in relation to the piece. If I were to send out my paintings, which are smaller scale, and with a totally different price range, that polycarbonate sheet will already be quite expensive. But I reckon either a wooden board or 2-3 layers of cardboard might work too.
Also love the added information about the certificate. Would love to see a whole video on details like that, the paperwork and personalizing the delivery of the product to the customer.
Great points - thank you! And will definitely cover off the whole Certification thing soon. I do get asked about that often.
The plastified card that they use for outdoor signs and election posters works much better than cardboard. It's much more rigid, but the same weight and doesn't absorb moisture. Very cheap too (during election season!)
Thank You so much! This was really helpful.
You're welcome!
Thank for your video
You're welcome Vitalia!
Thanks for the instruction! That pallet wrap ending was a surprise!!
Glad you liked it!

Thanks a million for the speedy reply. That is great news, simplifies the mystery of Insurance costs. Love your work and videos, great presentation clear speech and audio - great fun and entertaining too.
Continued success.

Thank you Brian - you are most welcome!
Hey! Thanks so much for sharing!
My pleasure Jennifer!
Very helpful tips thank you!
You're so welcome!
This looks like a pretty good option that I'm goin to try when we move. I have several large paintings of mine that need to get packed. My wife's company packed my paintings 25 years ago with custom made wood crates for each painting. (can't believe they paid for that) This method looks like a more affordable and frankly easier method.
Should work out well for you. Fingers crossed.
Thank you for this information, really great tips 🙂💚
You are very welcome Daniela!
Thanks for this fantastic super helpful video! The 10ml polycarb protector is very freaking innovative 🥰
I’m delighted you think so! Much appreciated

I couldn't agree more Allie! Well said
Thanks! This is great!
Phew! I'm not the only one with bubbles on the outside then!
this what's a great video thanks!
My pleasure Felix!
excellant
Thank you!
Thx that is good information 😊
You are most welcome!
Thank you so much for this very well done, detailed video. I have yet to ship a framed piece of art and I watched this to get an idea or two before ever attempting it myself. Great information! To add my 2 cents about bubble wrap, I only recently learned it's bubbles out for the better protection. Who knew? I believe it deflects the impact of force away from the item you're trying to protect.
Thanks for the advice Jacqui and glad you enjoyed the video 👍
your art is phenomenal! you deserve more subscribers dude!
Thank you so much 😀
Great and informative video!
Glad you liked it!
That was really helpful. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure!
Thanks for this video. I have shipped several paintings across the US and always worry about them being damaged. No issues so far, but your method of packaging your work seems just about foolproof. Cheers!
Thanks Scott, much appreciated!
Realy enjoing your videos! I just started painting at Christmas this year and felt in love with it. You are one of my only 2-3 channels/artists (that I actually filtered out of hundreds so far) that fit my personal taste of what is appealing and colorfull abstract art that I enjoy watching and learn some.
I'm working as sign maker and Im wrapping a lot too and so far I can tell that you should devenetly turn the bubbles to the inside because they pop much faster from the "bubble side".
The foil layer where they "sit on" is a little bit thicker than the foil of the bubbles itself and helps to protect them from popping.
If you want to upgrade your safety for a little price it might be another good option to buy some of these blue edge guards (those looking like pool noodles) they aren't expensive and give a little extra safety for the edges.
But in the end if everything went fine for the last years it's not necessary.
"You don't need it until you would have needed it" if that makes sense... (English isn't my mothers speech😅)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Felix, much appreciated!
Love your care
Thank you so much!
@@SwarezArt ciao, well I try to speak English!

Thank you for your incredible videos!! I'm an interior designer, recent empty nester and have picked up my paintbrushes after 25 years of not using them!! My goal is to create custom pieces for my clients and who knows, maybe it grows from there. I am binge watching your videos and have learned something from every one of them. Your work is stunning and you are inspiring me to just do it and not be afraid to try and experiment with different mediums, techniques, etc. Keep the videos coming please!!
Wonderful! Thank you so much Amy - that's so good to hear and I am delighted we're providing inspiration to you! Welcome to the channel!
Great video! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
My pleasure!
I had been wondering about how to ship this kind of stuff and how to prepare it so this was really information that I could use thank you
You are very welcome Daniel!
Love your demonstration. I also do large paintings for acrylics but I also do watercolor at another 11x17 with a 3-4” May around. I was making crates for everything to ship from old pallets (which I got for free as toss offs). I do use bubble wrap and newsprint or vellum directly on top of the painting; definitely cardboard then.
What you do makes sense; less expensive to ship than crates which FEDEX/UPS won’t take. I have to use private truckers when I crate which can be expensive. I recently found some moving companies will help if they have a run to the city you need. But you have to make sure you have some
One on the other end.
Thank you for the presentation and not drawing it out. Cheers 🍻
I appreciate your kind feedback and thanks for sharing your thoughts! Glad the video was helpful! Cheers, Ed
Thanks mate for the 411 and delivery.
No problem 👍
Muy seguro empaqueteado.
Yes it was !!
Wow! The’re so lucky having that treasure… im just new here and started to watch ur videos during my free time.. having one of your art piece is my biggest dream now haha..
Welcome aboard! Great to have you here and thank you for watching!
Thank you for this detailed video. I have got my first commission to post overseas and this will help me to protect it until it arrives at its destination. Many thanks again.
You are so welcome!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I was nervous about sending my large framed canvases by courier… now feel well equipped with the appropriate technique and have ordered the right supplies!
That’s great to hear and I am glad I’ve been able to help!!
@@SwarezArt Hi again, please can I ask what courier you use within the UK? Most don't insure artwork so I was looking into a specialist courier.
@@kellieahlart I don't use any specific courier as they all differ from time to time on service and price. Mostly I hand deliver within the UK so I don't really have much call for them domestically. Yes, most won't inusre which has always been a problem.
@@SwarezArt thank you, that’s helpful. I’ve only hand delivered too to date.
@@kellieahlart you're welcome!
Thanks for this!!! Really needed it
You're so welcome!
@@SwarezArt Me again. Just watched your vid on packaging the the 3m wide painting. Should I take that approach with a 2m x98cm sizes canvas? Or can I still get away with this method? Thanks
@@Isa53_ I've done 2m x 1m before this way and not had an issue - in fact I think I've done a 250cm long one too and had no issue. I'd say go for it!
@@SwarezArt again, THANK YOU!!
It's good to see somebody from the UK. My art is not overly large, but I do use foam wrap, bubble wrap and then I use really thick bin bags. I think maybe a polycarbonate sheet is a bit over the top for me, but I can understand that if you are sending abroad you need that extra security. Regarding the bubble wrap thing, I have always wrapped with the bubbles inside and haven't had any problems as far as I know because the foam wrap is protecting the painting. I think in future though I will wrap with the bubbles on the outside. I sent a resin piece out one time and was so worried about it that I put some thin card against it which will sort the problem. One really needs to think about the cost of packaging, which is quite high when you take it all into account, particularly the foam and bubble wrap. Just have to ask a lot for shipping I guess. Thanks for sharing your tips.
My pleasure Tracey and thank you for sharing your packing tips today! Cheers, Ed
neat!!
Thanks!
@@SwarezArt and love your voice. very catchy, easy to listen to and friendly..

great vid mate .......ty
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing. Where did you get the felt covering for your work table? Looks like a great surface for all types of work. Thank you!
Thank you! The top is simply an off cut of cheap carpet - nothing more than that :)
I hope that all is well for everyone reading this comment.
I'm sure they are!
I have 25 paintings that need to be packed up! Thanks for this lesson☝️
You are so welcome!
I’ve pretty much been wrapping everything using bubble wrap as the first layer and not much else, so this helps. Thank you!
Glad you found it useful!
Great informative video, can you please do another one for packing glass/ framed artworks. Thanks.
Thanks! I loathe to ship glass so I don't do that any more. I have done glass like this but used front and back sheets. I'm not sure I'm that confident to do a tutorial on glass! Ouch...
Thank you for all you do. It has been quite trasnformative and iteratively informative as I have learnt techniques, approaches to taking your art to the next level and so on. I am curious if there is an opportunity to get involved more closely in the learning process, like a closed group, subscription and so on. Thank you, again.
You are very welcome, glad we could help. There isn't any closed group or learning circle - that's why we have UA-cam. But if that ever becomes a thing I will let you know!!!
You can send that one to me. Lol! Good info.
Haha! Thank you!
bubbles, i dare say good wrap!
Clicked on this video by mistake but it was actually really helpful!! I just started selling some of my painting but I didn't know how I should ship them out so this is great!
Glad it was helpful - thanks for sharing your feedback!
@@SwarezArt of course! Thanks for making the video!
Cool thank you! I paint in acrylics on thin canvas panels and there is an issue with bringing anything in contact with the surface when packing. Still trying to find a solution.
Hello, I really loved this video, especially how simple the steps were. I've also just finished watching your video on packing large pieces for shipping in crates. I was wondering if you could please do a video on packing medium to large mixed-media art pieces ( art work has slight protrusions about an inch from the surface of the canvas) and how best to protect them. Also what are the merits of using packing peanuts instead of bubble wrap? Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful! I don't have anything that fits the mixed-media criteria so could prove to be tricky. No real difference between peanuts and bubble wrap in my opinion - only one is less messy! I really have to sit and think about the protrusions - not sure how to approach that...
Take a shot everytime he says "happy days"
😂 happy days!
Great video with a ton of useful info! Quick question, where did you get your hologram seal made?
