Several new GMRS HT radios were released in the last half of this year and in this video, I compare them all, to each other. I do a mini review of, and compare the Ailunce HA1G GMRS walkie talkie, the Talkpod A36 Plus GMRS HT, the Wouxun KG-Q10G GMRS radio and the Baofeng UV-5G PLUS radio.
I go over the good and the bad of each of these GMRS radios and I tell you which of these GMRS radios is the best, and which one you should purchase.

Do you have a video on how to set up units so they transmit on a frequency another unit receives and that other unit would transmit on a different frequency that the first unit receives.
The more of your videos I watch, the more radios end up here at my high desert compound.
I think my wife is starting to notice.
I concure, grin. Also the newest UV-17R chirp compatible is out on AMA for $22.00 The USB-C battery might not be in the package but it is available in pairs or singles. GP
Hands down. This is my favorite channel on the Tubes of You.
#1 ham channel 👍
Hello Sir,
Thank you for your informative yet of-the-wall videos on 2 way radios. I enjoy your sense of humor.
I’m subscribed to your channel, as I believe that you are likely one of the most reliable sources available that exists for these products.
I own 2 Wouxon KG-905G GMRS radios, and I’ve been using them without issue for the past two years. I use them while doing multi-day camping excursions in the Appalachian mountains with 2-8 people, and they have performed very well. I always keep one radio on my person when there might me up to 4 people with me, and give the other one to use for the other group of up to 4 people. So far, everything has worked well, and luckily, we’ve had no real emergencies so far.
I feel like I need to expand to more than two radios at this point, as he number of people that I might camp with has expanded. Sometimes people like to branch off into smaller groups, so it would make sense to have more than 2 radios.
My question is this: Should I just buy 2 additional 905s, or maybe I could buy one additional 905 and get a KG-Q10G for myself. Yes, I want the Q10G, but am I just wasting money when I’ll generally only be using it with 2-3 905s, or are the features of the Q10G “cool” enough that I should get one (even if it won’t be able to use the GPS without another one)?
Of course I could buy 2 Q10Gs, but I don’t think anyone else that will be using a radio will appreciate the differences from a 905G
Any advice would be appreciated here...
Thank you.
Always love your videos and humor, you are the best around to watch. Thank you for the time you take to do these. I was always into radios, but you have made me enjoy them a lot more. I learn something new every single video. Thank you from CA where we are the land of no signals lol.
Thank you for this video! The content has been very helpful and provide more options to look into! Please continue the amazing work!
I'm new to GMRS and randomly got your video in my feed. Good video and a damn good comment section
Awesome ... Wednesday night entertainment. Thanks Randy for the review of these radios... Already have the A36
Great overview Randy, thank you! On the 2nd of December I ordered the two-pack Baofeng radios and as of today, the 14th, they still have not shipped from Bezos land, so I hope they get here via Santa's sleigh. I have been listening to my Uniden scanner to the local HAM folks and I have to say the conversation is mind-numbing, ROGER BEEP!!!
I wanted to thank you , it turns out i bought the wrong Baofeng radio but your videos showed me how to use Chirp to make them do most of what i wanted anyways , and i now have a Baofeng UV-9G on its way to me , which actually is the radio i actually do want , and when it gets here i'll be able to talk to all the nice people i've been listening too on the Baofeng UV-16 PRO .
Thanks for my daily ASMR. I feel better now. 😌
Thanx for the comparison. Picked up the Baofeng 2 pack From Amazon for 70 bucks and where delivered in 2 days
Great vid - as always ! My Baofengs have never let me down in over three years - just know their limitations. And tell Alex I said “Hi !”
Wouxun=best radio
Baofeng=best deal
TIL about Milleramps. Thanks for educating us all, Randy.
Really great review,thanks!
Love your videos bro .keep up the good work
Thank you Randy. This video has answered so many questions I had. Please keep up up good work and love your sense of humor!. I am building a GRMS repeater based on your
videos. Thank you!!!!!
Glenn N6JAI
Love your vids, cheers from France.
Ingress protection :)
Great Video Brother. Merry Christmas.
Info Wars in the background!! Love it :)
This has been a very informative video. I'll give you that much.
I have seen the Talk Pod go for around $90, while the Ham Version of the same radio (same case, same electronics but different firmware) go for over $150. Yet there are a few hacks out there that would open up the Talk Pod GRMS Radio to become a Ham Radio (I believe is done with a firmware update/hack)
The Wouxun seems to be very intriguing with access to CB, but receive only. It is only fair as the SOC chip and the radio transmit back end would only transmitting on the original frequencies, in this case GMRS. But that is also true for radios like the Quanshen UV-K5; which receives from 18MHz to 800MHz including CB at 27MHz. It has been hacked to transmit on CB but the radio back end will only allow something like 1/2 watt of power to go out if is not 140-250MHz or 440-520MHz.
As for the Baofeng, can a factory reset open it like all the other Baofengs of before? That would be interesting to see.
For me it has always been that the best radio out there is the one you have at the time that is working and with a fully charged battery at the time the SHTF. Namebrands be damned, options be damned, if your radio is not working during the emergency, then your radio is basically junk and you're screwed.
Keep it up.
Much Wisdom - thank you!
Thanks. I just got my gmrs license and my uv5r just isn't cutting it. Can't complain. It was only like 20.00
Thank the lord something worth a notification from the UA-cam’s
Facts!
have you tried the uv5r max pro? i just ordered it supposed to be new for 24. 6 bands 10w supposedly
Which of those 4 can be sad Ham modified through the software for transmission on other non g m r s frequencies?
Randy, is it possible to access the noaa weather channels on the uv-5g plus? Not seeing it in the menu. I need help. That book says how to, but I’m finding it non existent… plz send help 🙏
I have two of the KG-Q10H models. I could imagine the GMRS version is almost as good. I highly recommend.
For those unaware a milleramphour is how many Miller Beers you can drink per hour before the battery runs out.
If you use miller lite you have to double the time.
Is the antenna removable on the Wouxon? I am really interested in this model but want to be able to use it in my truck with a mag mount external antenna.
We need a Fars-to-Electricities ratio number, so we can compare more detail!
While in the bathtub. That’s all that matters.
@@A-Negative
I second that
Have you seen this radio ? Can be programed for cb and gmrs. quansheng uv-k5 8 or 6
My talkpod wont take chirp.......and keeps coming up with a notice that says cant find the correct input string........so it going back......and i got it just this morning
You got me with the ironing board. That's fn funny.
Great information and I love your cheesy jokes in your hand animations
Always information I can use.
Is there a size guide for the shirts?
Could you please review the new popular Quansheng UV-K5(8). But be careful as this review will upset your ham friends more than any current Baofeng radios😅
Would love to see you do a project farm collaboration and test them Aginst one another.
I'm curious if the 3rd charging contact on the 3 radios that have them are actually connected to anything in the radio. Good video, as always!
It is thermal sensor connector which reduces the charge current if the battery heats up beyond the rating temperature limit. Prevents fires.
Regarding the "Freqency Counter" chapter...The Talkpod seems to have this feature as well. At least mine does 😁.
Is the Midland MXT500 GMRS a good radio?
*Just* as I was researching GMRS radios, this gem of a video pops up in my feed… it’s like you know me, or something… 🤔
Ahh.. Loose Change. Great documentary.
Thanks!
Always funny to see Randy taking the 'non-removable' antenna off of the Wouxun KG-Q10G... and slip something else on the connector in its place... and live to tell about it.😁
Randy my friend- I have one and I would like to see you do a review on the gmrs baofeng gm uv5rh!
When you can!THANKS RANDY!!
I’ve recently came across your channel and I’m interested in getting my gmrs license as I have a MAG group in my small town. We are all wanting comms for possible shtf situation. In your experience what are the best gmrs radios we should get to reach the longest fars?
I think i did a pretty good job of explaining which GMRS radios (walkie-talkies) have the most farz in this video. You should watch it.
They’re all the same
Do you have any experience with rugged radios?
Chirp does have a beta driver for the KG-Q10G, which appears to work properly.
Thanks ! 👌
HOMOdyne? (I thought you might veer off into another Grindr disclaimer, but you stayed on point!) I’m a noob, but grabbed a Tidradio (TD-H8) GMRS recently - not many nearby repeaters here in the frozen north, but it works pretty well in mobile mode using a Nagoya UT-72G antenna! (Otherwise m I might have snatched up an Ailunce.)
I guess I am no longer your favorite viewer 😢
You're right. It's me.
I know your pain.
Has anyone ciphered how to unlock the uv5g+ yet
i expect the talkpod you mention to come to my door...i bought it for $65 (including shipping) from the talkpod site.
I just got the 2 pack of the Baofeng UV-5G Plus. Not chirp programmable and trying to program with the Radioddity stuff was very confuckulating indeed! But I grabbed my manhood and quickly figured out how to program them with the sausage finger friendly buttons and I am very happy with them. Fars ain't too bad either with the optional long antennas supplied only when buying the 2 pack.
Thank goodness we have you to make this stuff entertaining.
Full noob question, I just ordered (should arrive soon) a uv-5r after watching many of your videos, but let's just say I find this to be a hobby something I want to dive deeper into after futzing around with the uv-5r, what radio would you recommend to someone who might want to, for some crazy reason, "be legal" in the eyes of the FCC? I like the idea of a radio that "does it all" like GMRS, AM, UHF, VHF and would be similar to these uv-5r style radios. I'm starting to guess that one can't find a "cheaper" radio that can tx and rx on all of these frequencies "legally". I'm sure this isn't a simple answer, but I thought I would at least ask, please forgive me if this is an ignorant noob question. Thank you for your video's, I feel like I am drinking from a fire hydrant and your info and humor have made this an easier process.
Hey,
I was on the same boat and after some iterations, landed on QUANSHENG UV-K5. It is open up and there a bunch of customer firmware for it and can do whatever you want. Highly recommend it.
Welcome back!
What kind of animal did you slaughter on your ironing board?
I am still torn between the uv5g plus and the td 8h. As it can be unlocked for ham
Go baofeng. I have 2 h8 units which freeze randomly and don’t allow transmission in or out.
I wish the Btech GMRS pro was in this list
Hey Randy in the Wouxun’s menu list there should be a menu item for tone scanning on a given channel. Both my 935g and 1000g have this feature and I have used this feature on both radios.
If you are saying that the tone-scanning feature on the Wouxun is the same as the Baofeng's Tone/Frequency scanning option, it's not. If thats not what you're trying to say then I dont get your point.
@@TheNotaRubiconI've used my baofang uv5R to pick up police frequencies standing nearby them. It is a pretty awesome future being able to pick up the frequency and the tone. I think the Baofang and the Woxson are definitely the best 2.
And I think each one is properly valued for what you get for sure. Most real GPS units (I'm saying just not a phone or something that needs Bluetooth and other data to know their position, as opposed to the satellites) cost more than the Woxson anyways.
Thanks for straightening out my confukulation.
Randy you made it sound like the wouxun couldn’t tone scan at all. I think that feature on that new Boofwang is a much easier feature than going into a menu to activate it.
@@Brrrap743on todays episode of, “shit that didn’t happen”. You’re not sniffing WiFi packets.
@@RabbiJesus Are you suggesting all municipal police use wifi radios? 😅 🤡
Hi my favorite youtuber ! Hope you've been well! Have you heard about the quansheng uv-k5 ? This radio seems to be easily hackable to receive and transmit from 13 (or 18??) To 1300mhz so it could transceive with a cb radio i guess , there is plenty of video about "that cheap chinese junk" but i would like my favorite youtuber to test it and review it
Okay, so I’m a complete newbie, which puts me in the idiot class of users. I want to buy 2 GMRS’s. One for my household and one for my daughter’s household about 35 miles away. This is for emergency use or when the SHTF. I know we will need to find a repeater. So I have my homework to do that and you have helped me with your other videos. But I really need to know which one to buy for that scenario. Any suggestions or “stay away from”? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Just get whatever one has the features you want, and make sure you get an actual "GMRS" radio. Many n00bs end up getting a ham radio, which is very much not the same.
Does the pencil match the ironing board? You bet!😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂 Miller Amp Hours I gotta use that the next time I'm doing a video On batteries 😂 7:38 @NotaRubicon Productions
You rock!
Have you seen the brand new 2024 BaoFeng BF-X5 PRO Walkie Talkie yet? It's big.
Talkpod can receive airband from 108.000 AM just needs unlocking
On the Windows 11 programming cable issue: I had this problem and there didn't seem to be a fix. One day I tried it by plugging it in to an 'octopus' cable that is a single USB-A on the computer side, and then several USB-A ports (6) on the other, allowing multiple.devices to run through a single port. Because the octopus cable translates, it allowed the programming cable to work when plugged in. Not the most graceful solution but a solution nonetheless.
What about the TD 8H. I got that after I watched your vid on that one.
I just ordered one too and haven't gotten it yet. I think it's the right one for me, I like the BT programming capability and that it can be set to GMRS, HAM or fully unlocked mode with a power on keypress. Also, it comes in Zombie Green which was the most important feature.
That's so last season!
😅😅😅😅
I bought it too. Honestly the only thing I like about it is the audio. It has a real loud speaker
My Baofeng UV-5G Plus Radios will be here Friday So excited To use them Randy @NotaRubicon Productions
Programming the Baofeng with Chirp use profile UV 17 pro (non GPS)
UV-5G Plus vs GM-15 Pro?
Dig them shirts 😎
UV-5G Plus Mac friendly?
Boofwang should make a Randy signature model with the Boofwang logo! 😀 I would buy one!
Boofwang X Notarubicon
The unlocked UV-5R is the best radio.
Sweet a New Video From Randy Awesome 0:08 @NotaRubicon Productions
Wow I can’t listen to KFIam 640 on most of these in the bathtub. Good to know.
Honest my dad accidentally got the uv 5r wet wirh water hose when washing his machine and soon it hit washer he realized it and stopped and dried it out in rice and still going strong, i would not lie sir there is no need too
I have a hard enough time with my cell phone. I have three UV-5R's and they were a bitch to program even with watching your videos. I just got a Radioddity GM 30 and I think I'm good to go. Of course that's what I say when I buy a new gun, it's the last one 😂
The Gm30/GM15 Pro line is amazing. Its one of the if not the best sub 30$ GMRS radio. Im getting a wouxun IP67 to have camping as the GM30s arent water resistant at all.
Wow, it doesn't take much intelligence to program the UV-5R. I have at least 10 of these fantastic radios from several years ago and never were a problem to program, although I do have to look up some of the features that I seldom use .
The uv5r is trash. For every person that they got into radio buy being cheap they must have turned 5 off for being junk.
I have not made it through the vid yet, but what I person WOULD do IF I WERE to purchase the Wouxun, is get the H model and "unlock" it, which is possible, to access gmrs and FRs etc.
Most of their radios are freq locked.
You can't unlock it, so you would be stuck with a ham radio.
@@TheNotaRubicon I don't know about the G ....but the H can be ... ua-cam.com/video/GsXFtMe_-Eo/v-deo.htmlsi=1Tp0WvItQW8lWe_I
I don't know if links will post here...but I tried. Also I take back my comment anyway...I forgot about the access to CB channels on the KG q10 G ...maybe I would buy one of these also/intead
The Q10G is up to 6 watts in the ultra high setting.
Just buy it having a super hydradyne receiver that's what would make me buy that radio.
I will tell you the one that is the best...

The one that is best...for you~
classic notarubicon.
And a sad ham chimes in to tell us they are all chicom junk in 3...2..1..
Just to let you know the link to your T-shirt page doesn’t work. A lot of nice Amazon dogs though 😢
Fixed! --> amzn.to/3SKypTU
Can the Boofwhang per chance broadcast on HAM frequencies?
And for the sad hams, I am indeed FCC certified to use our precious unlimited free air waves.
The Baofeng in this video is a GMRS radio, so it is not certified to transmit on ham frequencies, even if you have a ham license.
I really like my BTECH GMRS PRO. The GMRS PRO may not be as easy to program as the radios that you have there. It's still does the same what those other radios do, that's keep family and friends connected. Of course, I guess you still consider me as a Rebel, because I rather use a Motorola HT1250 if I owned for the GMRS band. I use to use Motorola HT 1000s. I know they aren't typed accepted, but who cares as long as one stays in the confined of where they're license for.
Does it do the frequency/tone search like the Baofeng?
@@TheNotaRubicon I guess not. At least, any the Motorolas that I used, did not. I haven't really used my CS800D, but I recall that having tone search or talk group search for DMR. Randy Happy Holidays !
That Ailunce is a left-handed radio with the antenna on the wrong side.
I’m rooting for the Boofwang ❤
I was confused and lost, wandering confuckulated in a FCC hell scape, off tone Roger beeps haunted me,then……this channel, Randy saved me and my family….he is a father figure now.
Does this Baofeng UV-5G use the same battery as UV-5R radios?
No different size
No, but i think it uses the same battery as the baofeng uv-5rh ham version. The one shown here is Gmrs version.
I've had good luck with some other Boof-Wangs, so I'd probably go with it if I had a GMRS license. In the meantime ............. I'll continue to use my .............. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, now where was I? 😂
Wouxun FTW.😊
I love you man. Not in a gay way but your humor gets me every time. Off to add some more electricities to my bofwang radio. Later.
I thought IP meant how long you could pee on it!!!😂😂😂
I thought I talked it’s my hands! Lol
