At first I was only able to understand a few words here and there but then I got the lyrics and started to understand a lot more. As a student of Finno-Ugric languages I'm also able to recognize things others might not.

@@MirkaKaroliina That's interesting :) Is Sami more similar to Finnish or Estonian?
I noticed that they use "uh-uh" sound for "no" at it sounded pretty funny at first ;)

Finnish and Estonian belong to the Finnic branch whereas Sami languages are their own branch. Just like Slavic and Baltic languages form their own branches even tho they used to be in the same one. Finnish and Estonian used to be the same language and nowadays they form a dialect continuum. The same with Sami languages. So to answer your question, you can't really say which language is closer to Sami languages. But I'd say Finnish cause it's geographically closer and Sami languages have loaned a lot of words from Finnish, both in the past and now. I hope this text makes sense somehow 😄

There are only a few words that are actually recognisable for a Finnish speaker, but learning Sámi is still very easy for us. I studied Northern Sámi for a year, and I could watch the movie in Sámi without reading the text. So in reality many words are very close, but they are hard to recognise because many sound changes have made them look different!

Sorry for my ignorance, a curiosity of mine, do you understand Northern Sami? Since as I guessed it is related with finnish, your language? :)

Only a few words here and there. Sami languages and Finnic languages form different branches so we can't understand each other. Finnish and Estonian are both Finnic if that makes it easier to understand 😄

I only made this because these languages are related to each other. I will probably make more Finno-Ugric mixes when we have all of them in high quality.
