Is there really any good reason to bother photographing iconic locations that have been rinsed to the max?
This landscape photography adventure begins in County Antrim at a magnificent castle on the coast. We then brave the crowds at 'The Dark Hedges' but is it really worth the bother?
Darren shows up first so of course everyone has to then get the same shot as him or we'll all be in his shot.
Amanda insists on a romantic stroll up The Dark Hedges while Darren tries to make $20 selling me a portrait shot. I never paid him.
After stealing Darren's composition I settle in and wait for the birds to enrich the scene with their antics. My 30 fps burst mode ensures that I capture the action with the added bonus of triggering Darren's envy.
Will the sky erupt over this Irish castle and which dessert will I choose at the tavern? How much can I charge Amanda's mother for a 'couples portrait' and what's my face like after 4 hours of sleep?
There's really one way to find out.

That first shot of the castle is actually really good. It gives a real feel of the rugged country. And how the castle kinda blends in the rocks makes it even more rugged. Almost as if it grows from the cliffs.

When you said scaffolding.... you wouldn't believe the frothing at the mouth vitriol that i spewed forth, I totally get it.
Spent a pretty penny, got on 2 long haul flights, spent a day traveling to Tokyo, followed by half 3hrs on a train to get to Kyoto.... Kiyomizudera temple? ooooh refurb, covered in bamboo scaffolding and tarps... ¬_¬

Yes, those once-in-a-lifetime locations can be disheartening when you realize they'll be decorated by the metal sticks for years. The Parthenon was like that when we visited. I asked when the restorations would be done and they said twelve years. Love that shot of the birds in the hedges. When we visited there were so many buses of people that the road was never empty of curious romantic couples having a stroll. Great video Gavin and Amanda!

You are so right about places changing. One spring, I found a spot along a river in the Georgia mountains where there was one gorgeous tree limb that extended all the way across the river. I got a great shot of it, and I returned a few months later for fall color. But the limb was gone. I found it along the river bank a short distance downstream. I was so sad.

Cliche or not still very nice and yes you never know when it could disappear. Many iconic places are gone because rock arches can collapse, vandals will cut down trees, storms and fires destroy them too. In the states many of the national parks now have a reservation system to enter with time slots that must be followed or you don’t get in. Any number of reasons can make that iconic cliche image unattainable for the future

Rather than cut down the ancient trees why can't they just use supports like they do on the Major Oak in Nottingham. I was at Wyming Brook in the Peak District recently and it's all been felled now. So many old trees etc just felled and I've no idea why. They didn't look a risk. They have been like that for years. What was once like a mini jungle is now an open plain with a water fall. Trees have been around long before us. Just leave em to do what trees do. I mean sure if it gunna wreck your house while your in it fine but out in the middle of nowhere, just leave em.

After spending some thousands of euros in photography equipment I can say if this is a just a hobbie for you, be careful, the GAS (Gear adquisition sindrome) is very dangerous, at the end you find yourself with a lot of expensive equipment mostly out of date just because the brands are continuously bringing out new cameras and equipment, specially if you use CANON equipment like me, better and better but also more and more expensive each time. The people in this videos always carry the best of the best in gear, the brands pay or promote them to sell us the new equipment and keeping us spending money. If you are a wealthy person, come on with the best gear, but if you are average, like me, be careful in buying gear that probably is too much expensive for what you´ll get using it. It´s a hard lesson I´ve learned. I know this brik isn´t in line with this video theme but I´d like to post it to prevent people from spending too much money in photography gear: It´s so hard to spend a lot of money in gear just to get 20 likes in FB to your photos.
