We begin with a pizza-fueled sunrise shoot at the New River Gorge in West Virginia but after only two hours of sleep I'm simply not competent.
After scaring off the only other photographer with obnoxiously joyful laughter we get the entire place to ourselves but Alex and Jason are shooting prematurely if you ask me.
After catching up on a much needed nap, I decide to continue the road trip all the way down to the Bayou in Texas but it's not as easy as I thought it would be. Capturing a sharp image is going to require some proper planning with the right gear. Sadly, I've left my 8ft tripod back at home like a right idiot.
I finally realize that the best shots require me to get into the alligator infested waters but will the fabric of my hip waders offer much protection if things go South?
The light on the bayou is incredible and the trees glow with a magical quality that I've never seen before. Do I have the skills to capture some book-worthy shots of this beautiful place or will I go home empty handed? Am I too salty for the gators and why am I willing to share the Cuban pork?
There's really only one way to find out.
Thanks for watching

Half eaten cherry....bloody hell i almost spat my drink out!!! LMAO
I got down there a week after you left. Robin spoke very highly of both of you. So excited to get video footage of an alligator last year...which turned out to be a beaver after I got home and zoomed in on it, LOL. Definitely a challenge to get sharp images without a tripod! My favorite shots that I came home with were of the herons. The Bayou was amazing. Hope both of you had a great time!
Yeah Robin was awesome.
Bouquet Holders - great photo and great music!
You guys crack me up! Love your photos and watching your travels. ❤
This channel should be on Netflix 😂❤🎉
Wow! Your Bouquet Holders shot is stunning. Soft coloured, painterly, magical. A real winner.
Ok, you have proven to me for the first time that a bayou can be beautiful. Thanks for helping me see it differently!
Nice shots in the bayou, especially with the fall colors gone. And gators are only half your worries. Don't forget the Water Moccasins. They love the bayou!
Actually the fall colours hadn't yet started. Wait till you see the next few episodes. We also heard snapping turtles could be a problem.
@@fototripperI was just going to say the same thing, too bad you missed fall colours but it sounds like maybe you didn't. So cool for you to visit down here in my home state. Looking forward to future episodes.
I love the Texas bayou in the fall!
Great video. Loved the swamped photos, looking forward to seeing some more.
If you like that music towards the end, there is a great movie called The Highwaymen which is set in Texas and Louisiana (its about hunting down Bonnie and Clyde) that has a lot of that. Being from Houston, Texas and married to my wife who is from Abbeville, Louisiana, it really captures the mood of driving around in the area. Enjoyed seeing you kayak around the swamps!
A daring photo expedition on a precarious boat with a super-expensive gear! However, the results are also top-notch and unique! 👍
“Bouquet Holders” is spectacular. Hope you show us more. thanks…
I’ve been looking forward to these Bayou videos. My kind of photography! Loving what you are doing dude!
The New River Gorge is spectacular. A lot of fun to white-water raft too. I like the story of the steel bridge that took the journey from one side to the other from 45 min. to 45 seconds. Of course, I also remember in 2001 after 911, the bridge had armed military at both ends. A beautiful image of the horse shoe bend. The two images at the swamp in Texas are beautiful.
Great to see WV shown in a second video!
Love the first swamp shot Gavin, very painterly 👍📸
Beautiful photos of the bayou and its well the alligators were having a sleep...plus plenty of funny moments...many thanks and best wishes.
Love that location, those trees are amazing. Looking forward to seeing next weeks episode, when you get in that water 😬
OMG - “a half eaten cherry??”😂😂😂
That first bayou shot is magnifique!
So much of Iceland 🇮🇸 and not enough time to shoot it. We would love to return there sooner than later to see what we missed last time.
Gavin.... I live in NW Florida near Pensacola. There's lots of swamp around here, yes, with swamp lizards. But check out another successful landscape photographer from south Florida, Clyde Butcher. His specialty is all things Everglades. He has a location or two that shows his LARGE format prints and does lectures and tours (I think). That alone may be worth a trip if you've really found a love for swamps. .... By the way, Clyde is elderly and may not be with us much longer.
And Clyde don't use waders...LOL
His place in Ochopee and the surrounding swamp is beautiful.
His images are on tour at museums around the country
Also check out Oscar Thompson's images. He was a friend of Clydes', deceased but his images live on.
We love going to the New River Gorge and Hawks Nest all the time my favorite photo I have there is a train crossing the river silhouetted in the water
Yorkshire sense of humour. I always have a laugh but love the compositions.
everything was stunning! Those images were pure magic! The reflections in the water, the half eaten cherry on top 🤣
Very nice footage over different seasons. The handsocks made me laugh😂. Awesome landscape 😮. Greets Stefan
Funny, as someone who is used with that “swamp” landscape living in Florida I struggle a lot to find inspiration is places like that, but when I go to the mountains this is my landscaped heaven, I guess we always tend to appreciate more what we don’t have.
Always. I don't have any mountains either.
I'll get a brew on if our paths cross on Iceland in the summer 👍
Haha never heard that one before bud lol 😂 FairPlay! That kayak shoot was tricky. Nice shots dude
Wow, bayou shots are amazing.
Stunning shot🤗
There are several bayous in Louisiana that you should try out the next time you get a chance!
Welcome to Iceland. Greetings from Iceland.
Yes , going to grammar school at the age of 11 in England was the change from shorts to long trousers. Felt very grown up!
Beautiful!
LOVE! That first shot. I want to go!
Great location Gavin.👍👍
I guess it's a case of "familiarity breeds contempt", but living in bayou country (All. My. Life. in Louisiana *sigh* ) I'd sure like a shot at Nova Scotia and the Lake District, to name a few. 😀 But these shots are great!
Something new for a change … and what a change it is. ❤❤❤ Spectacular images from the swamps 😮 … the footage is top-notch and entertaining as always. What I was wondering while watching. Was there any issue with midges, mosquitoes or any other flying teeth (swimming teeth may have been different, though)? … Cheers.
They weren't too bad in numbers but the bits itched for a week.
"Bouquet Holders"❤
I am so bummed you came all the way down to my state and I didn't know it. Would have so loved to have met up possibly and bought you a drink.
You were in West Virginia and you didn't have a pepperoni roll? You missed out! Anywhere near Hawks Nest? Glad you decided to go south. You got some great shots!!!
From across the the room I heard “did he just say like a half eaten cherry!?” 😂 Definitely a book photo coming out of this location! 📸😎
These are beautiful and taken from a kayak, nuts. A half eaten cherry hahaha
bridesmaids of the bayou... effin epic!
Should have had been playing Dwelling Banjos as the backing music. Lol
Growing up in the 1980's? Luxury! In the 1970's we had to get up in the morning, half an hour before we went to bed and lick t'road clean wi our tongue! We had to go to school, a good two hours hike away whilst sharing the solitary pair of shoes between all six of us, taking turns to hop wi one shoe on whilst carrying those baht shoes. Shorts until you were 11? Pah! We had for t' wear shorts until we got wed, day after we left school and went down pit!
You telt kids of today that, and they wont believe you....
I guess it was a wide kayak. ☺Mmm pineapple and sweet corn on a pizza. Oh yes nice photos. 2x👍
Extra wide.
You are a brave man taking your camera on a Kayak!
"Ass like a half eaten cherry" now that made me laugh, not to mention squirm in my seat. That drive to Texas really Bayou some great images 😂👍👍
baboom!
Next time through WV look me up. Lot's to see.
Gorgeous oh that would have been a fun outing ❤
half eaten cherry or not, the images are stunning, thank you for sharing
Ah Gavin you got to get to Iceland in the Winter! Missing the epic frozen landscapes and of course .... Aurora. But ye might not be into that :P Been 8 times past 4 years and only in Winter running Photography/Aurora workshops ...But suppose if your wanting to go into the highlands or removing the risk of road closures and shitty weather then winter is a no no! Live in N.Ireland and think ive Photographed more of Iceland then here... need to get my finger out haha
Yeah the Highland is a big draw.
@@fototripper would be great to see now, furthest I've gotten to photograph was Haifoss. But covered everything from West, south & East. Will be good seeing what yous cover 👍
I Can't Wait To Have Enough Money Saved Up To Book A Full Week Session With You Guys Out In Canada/Nova scotia I Know I Am Gonna Come Back With ABS From Laughing So Hard LoL
FABS are even better.
I stopped the video to ask you this question? Do you know how to get back in a kayak in 8ft. of water? It's not fun! Now I will continue watching. It will be epic video to see you get out of the kayak and TRY to get back in the Kayak from that depth. I yes definitely plan on passing the camera to Amanda or a very bad thing will happen.
Crap I'm going to have to wait until week! Joking will you, great pics! By the way if you want cristal clear water reflection shots come to Ocala, Florida to Silver Springs State Park. I took a photograph with the same Cypress trees and after processing the reflection picture I couldn't tell which was right side up and I'm just a hobbyist.
Hip waders chest deep. I can't wait.
Beautiful Gavin❤
Great video. The A-ha live recording is really hard to find...
Was hoping for “Duelling Banjos” over the top of the Bayou footage, TBH.
And now added to the "i do have a face like" comes the "I do have a bum like" lol
Great one! As always 👏
That place is on my list! By the way an extra layer for the alligators is called a burrito. Summer in Iceland? You meeting Tom and the boys with Thor in the Highlands?
No. I never get invited to the cool kids meetups.
@@fototripper me either!
Going to Iceland ay ? Just when its exploding, everywhere all at once at the speed of light ? Great video btw.
A little box appeared beside your image at the end of the video, appeared to be a book, what was the book? 🤔😂 Great video Gavin, thank you
Amanda! Nice work! What was your favorite overlook on the New River Gorge? I don't understand the purpose of taking what's-his-name along, doesn't seem like he adds anything to the project.
That's it! Im ditching my gloves for socks! Gotta keep my hands warm and prevent lens flare. 🤣
Hiking to school in shorts, you were lucky, we had to get up before we went to bed, eat handful of gravel for breakfast, and tell the Yanks and they don't believe you
“Tough….rugged”….unlike your ass after eating a Cuban pizza 😂😂😂
hehehehehe
I would title this “whip cream on shat…. “. Another entertaining video that completely ruined my love of cherries. Thank you very much…. And no, I would never have smelled those socks, that takes a special kind of human.
Ok next time you are within 100 miles from me it's a law that you notify me ;-) Cheers from Dallas.
Man, what a let down!! Making me wait until next week for more fun and informative and dare I say inspiring bayou adventures....fine be a smart UA-camr😂😂
Looks like the church is well insulated with all that white stuff.
Yeah, 8ft drifts in the backyard as we speak.
Great video as usual. Where is this Texas bayou?
Hope you have time for coffee when you visit Iceland, what changed your mind?
BTW, you have the A1 which should handle higher ISO very well and has a pretty good focus system I believe so I am curious why getting a sharp photo handheld from the kayak was a problem?
High ISO still looks shitty eve non the A1. Sure, you can clean some of it up in post but it comes at the cost of lots of detail. Direct flights changed my mind.
I was waiting long enough for this but it's not an hour long
Just over 16 1/2 minutes is not long enough for this video
Especially with all the beauty around you and you're not feeling enough
Although I'm pretty sure you're shooting enough you're just not giving us the film length required😢😢😢
You'll enjoy the next 3 weeks then.
@@fototripper
I can't wait
And please tell Amanda I said hello and the other photographers that have been in this video with you
I also say hello to hello too you all

You need to get to Kentucky as soon as possible
There are so many areas with frozen waterfalls but you will have to get a hold of backpacking with Jason and have him show you where because I'm kind of pissed off at him right now
Beautiful waterfalls beautiful icicles and he's breaking some I'm not a fan of that I need you to get photographs it needs your special touch
@@fototripper
This is his channel this is what he was just showing and like I said it needs your special photography touch

When you were a kid growing up in Yorkshire did you live in a shoe box in the middle of the road? 😊
The rich folks did.
@@fototripper You must have been one, you talk a bit posh. 😂😂😂
bet he had to lick the road clean.
When Austria? 📷🎥
A visit to Austria is an unforgettable experience. Is a place where nature takes center stage: turquoise-green or blue, crystal-clear lakes amidst picturesque mountain landscapes - a view that is never enough.
Majestical ;)
cool shots for something different i have always wanted to go there. No bugs?? or was the unsightly foot funk keeping them away>
The flip flop deterrent did not work.
What a fantastic place and you got some stunning shots considering you was in a kayak 👌
I know how you feel. I used to have a mate from Yorkshire at college that used to ask for his pound back he’d lent me the month before..😮😂
Why don’t you borrow Amanda’s Hasselblad? With 5 stops of Dynamic range.
well, i guess a poor person. as myself. will never learn to be like you!!!!!!! crying:(
Nice
Jabroni's :) been watching always sunny?
Never seen it.
Do you supply, and how are much are those special photo socks, ---- including postage ?
Depends where you are...
As a child going to school, you had to walk uphill coming and going, right? Did you wear flip-flops as well?
bare feet.
Was the lichen on those bayou trees of the subscribe genus by any chance?
I'm pretty sure it was.
Would love to hang out and shoot with you and joke about. But im in western Canada. Cant afford the taxes alone 🤦😢. Im surprised I haven't been taxed for my toots yet.
You'll be taxed for this comment. Per word.
You don't have to worry about gators in winter, they won't bother you.
But where do they go?
They either bromate in the mud and come out when the sun can warm them or they spend the winter under an old church somewhere in Nova Scotia.@@fototripper
Anyone else see a face in the cloud just above Gavs finger at 04:15?
Awesome video as usual… Didn’t share you pizza… A lot more Grey in your beard.. Just Sayin..😳
Yeah...the Cuban pork. No Takers though.
I normally use "arse like a blood orange" but please please may I use the half eaten cherry line :)
Go for it.
If you like swamps so much why haven't you gone to the Florida Everglades or Georgias Okeefenokee swamp.
do you do this or does this explanation make sense since your videos are in 4k ... someone explain why they don't do 4k youtube videos and only 1080.... They said "We record in 4K but output in 1080 because this allows us to zoom and crop. To output in 4K, we would need to record in 8k (or 6k) which then slows the editing process down. Maybe in the future we can increase the resolution." are they right ?
Sounds like bollocks.
Grand Canyon of the east
You modest MF ! heheheheh
great shots
Grim? Gavin, you must listen to AB Camping . . .
