Thank you! Also the mono signal is also used as a fallback if you are too far from the transmitter so the audio sounds better at the price of a mono signal

First FM Stereo receiver I had was in 1974. One always had a stereo light come on a stereo station. Ballgames and news the stereo light would go off. My guest always was there was two parallel signals and the station was saving money and electricity by shutting off one of the feeds. Max AM power was 50,000 watts and FM was 100,000 watts reinforcing my belief in two 50,000 watt parallel feeds.

You’re on to something! Since FM is constant amplitude, transmitting in mono or stereo wouldn’t really change the transmitter’s power output. However, live content like news or sports wouldn’t have any stereo separation, so it’s sort of a waste of your FM signal bandwidth to transmit a 19KHz pilot tone if you’re almost guaranteed to not have anything in the L-R signal. Radio receivers would have an easier time demodulating the signal if the 19KHz pilot was just turned off - and the stereo light is controlled by whether or not there’s a pilot!

So on those little Bluetooth fm transmitters you put in your car, why aren’t they able to take your stereo Bluetooth signal and create that combined signal with left and right, then your stereo fm receiver in your car can separate them? I’ve looked for stereo Bluetooth transmitters but it’s like they don’t exist
