My first manual wheelchair I got from British Heart Foundation it was not suitable for me as was too big. Always look at sizes of the seat before getting a chair. Is it easily adjustable if it’s not you size. Have a look at the user/service manual before buying so you know about the chair.
Where did you get your 'back up' chair or what make was it? Cuz it looks like something that we could look at for my little brother who has Cerebral palsy and Erbs palsy
I'm a part time wheelchair user with EDS and can't get one on the NHS, so I bought a used rigid chair on ebay. Best thing I ever did, I love it! A friend with an engineering brain helped me clean it and adjust it initially. I've just bought new wheels for it also on ebay. I can't afford new so second hand is the way to go for me 😊
YES, I also have EDS and I found an awesome quickie 2 on ebay, that turned out to be right nearby me, the person delivered it to me and gave me a big discount, and with a little tweaking its been such a huge QOL improvement. I can get to the end of most days with less pain now, and have less pain when I try to sleep, which has done nothing but improve my pain levels. ;
HUGELY useful thanks! On the. NHS stickers - I've had a number of aids from NHS wheelchair and equipment services so I'd seen the stickers many times. I frequent charity shops very often lol and so so many times I see NHS stickered mobility aids, most often walkers and trollies but occasionally wheelchairs too. I always point these out the volunteers or managers. Sometimes I'm met with "oh thanks we'll give them a call" but often it's not that positive a response, some will say as they are donated they are allowed to sell them. I know items are donated in good faith, often family member have no idea the equipment belongs to the NHS and donate it. I volunteered in charity shops for several years and saw many items come in this way and had to (kindly) let the person know what to do with the item instead.
Hi Jen, I bought a wheelchair on eBay from China, it's great, it's got adjustable velcro straps, so you can adjust the width of the wheelchair, it's got big alloy wheels which can come off, it's foldable, but the foot plates are fixed, at the back I've got stabilisers at the back, it fits me perfectly. " Yippee" what a bargain. P.S I Love watching your Wheels no Heels videos 😉
That motorized wheelchair is phenomenal and amazing. I have been very blessed to receive all my chairs for free but this is great advice! Very educational
Today is my handiversary 4 years. I've been real lucky on most my finds (shower chair, back up manual chair, standing frame) but always word of mouth never trust online so glad to have this cause I'd really like a better manual (granny style is sooo heavy) thanks for all your vids!
I am very lucky to have my needs met by the veterans affairs, in fact this morning I was approved for a smart drive for my wheelchair so I don’t wear out my already overburdened shoulders and cervical vertebrae. I will have to wait for it but I am very excited. They tried to talk me into a scooter but I don’t want one right now. I am happy with my tilite.
Soooooooooooooooo much to think about lol, after 12years iv been diagnosed with ms and now seems to be the time to buy a wheelchair as my fatigue is chronic after a walk so now is time to take the plunge, but the choices wow the choices, loving your channel so i liked and subscribed
I just got a fully adjustable rigid chair for 200$ from another wheelchair user who has a new one. It’s an invacare A4 so I can even adjust the camber in less than a minute. All the small adjustable bits near the ground he had covered with electrical tape so the bolt’s almost look like new. It also came with spare casters spare clothing gaurds and removable handlebars. I like downtown so not having push bars is fairly important to me. The only problems either the chair were flat bald and cracked tires and he had it adjusted bigger than I need. Before this I was using a quickie 2 with massive cushions and tiny 20” mag wheels that weren’t really made for self propelling despite the push rim grip. I’ve now got 24” sun rims with 36 spokes on each wheel and I replaced the tires with some nice Kendra gumwall ones. It finally looks like my chair.
Some really good advice there Gem. Surely, if you have a limited budget, it must be better to get a lightweight quality chair second hand, than a new cheap one that weighs a ton (assuming the fit is pretty close). One thing I do disaggree with. I used to be a buyer for a large engineering company. On a training course we were told never to ask, "What is your best price?" The reason being that it is then almost impossible to negotiate the price to a lower figure. Instead offer a considerably lower price than you are prepared to pay, and see what happens. You can always go up with your offers, but do so more slowly than the vendor lowers his/her price. Hopefully you arrive at a price that is acceptable for both parties.
Not exactly because. You got to think of it this way and yes I am in a wheelchair. A wheelchair gets us around like people's legs do. And if we don't have a wheelchair then we are stuck where we sit or lay. So as long as it is in good condition and works and feels right and fits right. I don't mind having to use another person's used wheelchair or buying a used wheelchair. As long as it is in good condition.
I had some canes (crutches) on prescription, once I had no further use for them I dropped them off at the rheumatology dept of the local hospital who were delighted as not everyone can afford them.
What's the website to those spinal injury sites. I'm desperately looking for a wheelchair. I'm stuck with a hospital wheelchair that barely fits In My house and car.
Great video ..I am desperate for a Batek mini .The Berlin dealer is being slightly odd.. Seen me , measured me and not got back .You are blessed in having another person and car .Living alone this is my battle Proving funbut have decided to get from new , Too exhausted to deal with second hand on my own ,Not giving up and am already doing my best with the local bus co to get half of one of their ramps :) Wish me luck .. Well Ive seen the triride, which looks pretty good Its strong and robust and powerful like the batec, Id say that, that is its biggest competitor. Ive never had a quickie. But they do seem to be a popular brand. :)

how do I sell a streamer wheelchair
my biggest mistake was buying a chair with a moldy cushion and the custom replacement cushion was $500 -more than the chair itself
Hi, how much is this wheelchair price in your country
A manual custom made wheelchair in the UK ranges from about £1500 - £6000 plus. Id say the average, is around £2000 - £3000 (just my guess)
short anwser people often over price these items given the brand new price people think oh i will get it a high price
