The bathing board is the exactly same as the one I have. I got it from the German NHS it is really sturdy. At least it looks exactly the same and my one is from China aswell.
Hi Gem, I am an Occupational Therapist from Australia and I love watching you videos. They are fantastic for showing positive view of disability, particularly for younger individuals. I would, however, be really careful using suction rails. Practicing as a clinician in the community, I have heard too many horror stories of these rails "popping off" and people having having nasty falls. I would only use a suction rail as a last resort and probably make sure it passes all safety codes and standards before you do them (try to buy from trusted disability equipment supplier if you can to check this). I hope you do make it to Australia with your family one day soon. Keep posting amazing content. 😁🇦🇺
Thanks vic. Yes your right the grab rails are a little unpredictable. One came off today. Im going to add a warning in a pined comment. However I have stressed that this video is just for entertainment purposes only. Stay safe. And I hope you continue to enjoy my videos. :)
I have one of the “telephone” grab handles. Not from wish but a brand I trust. I use it horizontally on my tub to help me safely stand up from the tub. Obviously I am not wheel chair dependent. I have hypermobile joints that are prone to collapsing out from under me. I do recommend checking the hold of the grips each time before using them because they do need to be reattached every once in a while.
I have them too. I have a serious spinal issue and nerve damage down both legs that means that one slip and fall and I risk becoming fully paralyzed. I use these too. For added safety: we glued them to the wall.
I have one too... I hate to tell you this because I'm certain you will have paid more... mine was a Euro from a fleamarket in the costa del sol! And has been on many a SUBSEQUENT holiday!
@@bonnieharris4538 mine goes on my fiberglass tub and works well. I agree I would not trust the suction cup on a painted wall. I am a heavy person. Lol.
We have several in my mom’s bathroom. They definitely have to be on tile or plastic or fiberglass. Mom has been using a wheelchair full time for almost a year, due to a mild stroke & frequent falls. These grab bars make it possible for her to go to the toilet by herself, at home. We have some in the stand up shower , much safer for her bath aide to get her in & out of the shower
Loved his dancing with the umbrella hat 😂😂😂 I’d never wear it either lol. Thanks for the laugh. I have been tempted to buy from wish and am glad I haven’t lol.
Gem, I just want to tell you how much I have loved your videos. I have learned so much about coping with everyday life as a wheelchair user from you. I have truly benefited so much from all that you’ve shared. You are always so upbeat and positive but by the same token you tell it like it is. I love how you go above and beyond to be an amazing wife and mother. Your husband is a lot like my husband, always supportive and there without question or any hesitation. Your husband seems to know exactly how to be able to be there for you and yet allow you the space you need to be independent. I think you are an amazing family and I never miss a video and I feel that I owe you a huge thank you. I know you’ve probably always hoped your videos proved to be helpful to others and wondered if they had been and I just want you to know they have been a lot of help to someone.... to me and I am sure that I am just one of many. Thanks again.
I liked how use mentioned running out of “spoons”. I have MS and some of us use the “spoons” too. I am now in a wheelchair.Been in it for 1 year and 3 months. I love watching your videos. You help me see that I can still get out and do things. Thank you.
@@Dan.And.Phil.Trash11 Spoons = energy. Look up the spoon theory. It explains how people with a chronic illness will use the idea of spoons to represent the energy they have/energy it takes to accomplish something.
Occasionally I find things at wish that are absolutely brilliant. And sometimes the things are crap. You take your chances hoping you're not out too much.
The telephone😂 detachable handle bar is solid, until it's not. Over time it will losen and then just pop off, so be careful and reapply it frequently. I use mine on tile in the shower.
This! On Argos I managed to get ones that have a safety indicator that tells you when it needs to be reapplied to the wall so I definitely reccomend those
15:48 reminds me of my shower corner basket 😂 i put it in the corner of my shower, put my stuff in it, started washing IT CAME CRASHING DOWN AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES
Thank you for making the first wish testing video I have seen for mobility aids keep it up as theres so many weird and wonderful gadgets for those needing a little extra help, they do wheelchair cup holders too!!!
It looked like it might work but then the not so great British weather got involved! I usually just rely on a big hood and thick coat but this looks more fun (just not practical!). Thanks for making me laugh though!
You should do a video on mental health during lockdown. I’m sure many people both disables and non disabled are finding this time very stressful so you could do a video on how to cope stuck inside not being able to get out and about?
I have a friend who used to work with someone sewing slings of simular fashion. They were custom and they did make some which were intended for older disabled children. My friends daughter is about the same size as me (a few inches shorter but we wear the same clothing size) and her mom modeled it for older children but toting her daughter around for a few mins. :)
I bought something from WISH that was advertised as being able to charge by sunlight. It was not able to charge by sunlight, nor do I know how else I could have recharged it. I did get my money back. 6:02 You should be able to keep it from blowing away by adding a chinstrap. Especially for Shaun, I'm sorry you didn't get to travel to Australia.
This video definitely brightened my day! I love Wish...sometimes I just have to laugh at what is sent compared to what I ordered...but there are times that I’ve been very pleasantly surprised!
Bless you Gem for going out in public with the umbrella hat 🤣😂 I had that bathboard (mine was by invacare) unfortunately it does go mouldy really quickly even though I washed it 😩 so it had to go too. I really like the ramps 🤔 Love these posts Gem 🤗🥰🤗
that puffer jacket is a limited quantity deal, which is where they have a limited number (usually 1) which you can get for $1 or pound so they first yay number of people will get it for that price and the rest will be refunded or something like that.
You are very brave wearing that umbrella hat in public. As a wheelchair user, I don’t think I could have tolerated that level of staring lol. Also, it’s not big enough, even if it did stay on your head. Also, I would never use grab bars suctioned to anything. I don’t trust that at all. 😱
I actually like wish a lot. I've bought a lot of rings off of there even some clothes. It's nice to know that they actually have some quality disability related products. Amazon might have some competition.
I'm glad you finally got your door ramp situation sorted out! That looks like it's much more stable and sturdy than the wooden ramp you were using before!
My suggestion is some kind of "holiday at home" video Where you transform a room or two into a holiday destination or den and try to do some of the activities you would have done on holiday but low-scale! Be creative! :) all the best, stay safe xxx
Umbrella hat has been around forever. Most attach an elastic band to keep it on your head. But yea, limited use. The spoke lights are supposed to be woven into the spokes to keep them attached.
Oh no i died snorting with laughter at that steeeeeeeep ramp . That was hilarious! I never heard of this website before. It even sketchier than amazon!
Thanks for the video, I always enjoy watching your videos, they're fun and informative and you present yourself very well on camera. I liked the idea of the umbrella as I find hoods are a pain in that they block out sound, peripheral vision and don't turn with you when you turn your head. I have actually been looking at an umbrella hat on amazon that has a (covered) vent at the top to let the wind out and reduce the likelihood of it blowing off, it also has a chin strap as well as the band around the top of the head. It's also a little bigger so would keep your shoulders and maybe even lap dry, but being bigger makes me worry I'd accidentally poke someone with it. I still can't decide whether to go for it or not. With the lights for the wheels, it looked like you didn't fit them quite right which is why the flapped around and came off. You have to have it touching three spokes. You clip the centre grove onto the middle spoke and tuck the wings underneath the adjacent spokes so that it ends up going behind the left spoke, in front of the centre one and behind the right-most spoke. I know the on the spinergy wheels the spokes are too far apart but they should have fitted the other wheel, apologies if that's what you did, but it wasn't clear and looked like you only tried to tuck one end under the adjacent spoke instead of both ends. If you do ever use the suction mounted grab rails always test them before trusting them with your full weight as even if they were stuck firmly to start with they can slowly lose their grip over time, especially if the ambient temperature fluctuates a lot as that can affect the pressure inside the suction cup. It's interesting that you mentioned the bag you bought for the back of your wheelchair could work quite well as a baby changing bag, as the bag that I use actually is a changing bag which I bought because it looks so much nicer than any of the wheelchair bags I was looking at yet still has clips to attach to my wheelchair. Anyway enough of my ramblings, sorry my comment ended up so long! Thanks again for the video, I look forward to seeing the next one. =)
Very funny video, I love it when Shaun joins you in making a video for us. I was pleasantly surprised by the items you purchased . The ramps were perfect for you but umbrella not so much and in reality it would only keep your head dry so you may as well put up your hood and not look quite such a wally!
I have to say I am very picky when it comes to disability equipment, ever since I bought a cheap folding walking stick and it bent and broke whilst I was using it.
Amazing video gem. Sorry you are not getting to go to Australia. This pandemic is crazy. Do you have a name for your mobility aids? I have a manual wheelchair called Loki, an electric called Hela, crutches call bill and ben ( my nephew named them) and a stick called greg (like house) It was how i learned to accept my aids. Could you do a video on - Dealing with stigma of being in a wheelchair when young eg. Being a wheelchair parent etc - Easy modifications around the house to make like easier - Struggles and pluses of being in an interabled relationship. - Dealing with the lockdown while being disabled. ( this lockdown is already driving me crazy) Thanks. Hope you are having a good day and being safe.
I have one of those suction cup grab bars. If I remember correctly I got mine on Amazon. I use it in my shower. It works great. It does pop off over time. But I just double check it before I shower and pop it back on if needed. This is the first time I have heard of a bathing board. I use a shower stool. Being able to sit down in the shower is so nice.
Bag made me think ay tips for not filing over backwards when carrying a heavy backpack (in in school) it freaks people out lol. Though I haven’t been injured yet. I can’t use anti tippers bc the only way I can get up curbs is backwards and as I’m sure you’re aware the world isn’t particularly accessible for the most part.
I know you most likely won't see this comment but it's fun to hear you say bits and bobs; here in the US we say nuts and bolts. I like bits and bobs so much better. 5:51 was so cute. Your dog was watching so intently, then you edited it and she was sleeping. So sweet.
I love these types of videos. The mix of products you get is funny. Some of the things you think will work out, don’t and vice-versa. Some products really do surprise me ( I got some blankets for my dog and cats and while they are more like a towel size-wise, they are so cuddly and soft. So far they have held up to washing in the machine well... so who knows? Mind you most of the clothes I have gotten off wish were a bit lacking in quality,.
My mother has pretty much that exact bath board and it works well for her. She has Rheumatoid arthritis and can't stand for a long time and isn't super stable on her feet. So she uses the board to sit on in order to swing her legs into the bathtub (shower). She also sits on it to soap up her legs/feet and just to rest. It might not be appropriate for paralysed people, but it seems to help for elderly/low mobility people (as long as plastic is strong enough for the person's weight).
great video gem. we have the lights on my wife's wheelchair the most secure way to attach them is with cable ties. Had no problems in 2 years great buy
Well seems it’s a win for the ramp for the front door & the chair bag. I take it you will continue to use them? Will you take the tile suction handle for holidays?
Love the vid, so sorry you can't get to Oz 😢 I got those suction grips from Wish, and they do brilliantly for me. Also good place for LED strips if you want to pimp your wheelchair with underbody lighting (I'm a sucker for lights on my chair!)
Thanks to you I learned spoon theory and before my grandma passed away some time ago I managed to help her understand my EDS3 :) I'm glad so thank you. Taking longer to make the term a usual with mum and dad but they understand that if I say I need a nap then I need to nap lol
I have the expensive version of that bathing board (same shape and assembly and such) that was fitted for our bath and mine is honestly great! From what I can see mine is thicker and more sturdy, though, so wish might have just stolen a design and made it cheaper. Also with mine the blue handle is the other way around (so facing outward), but I don't think that would work with your bath because it is against a wall. (ours is in the middle of the room)
I have a disability and I find that some of these aids, are more difficult to use then just doing something the regular way. Don't get me wrong there are aids that do help out a lot.
If you want softer lights on your wheels you might try some battery fairy lights. Just tie on the battery compartment & wrap the wired fairy lights wherever you want them. They're cheap too & not as likely to give you a headeache.
I’ve had some nice bags and clothing items from Wish. The only bad one was the cute dinosaur earrings that looked nothing like the photo and ended up being derpy dinosaur earrings.
I have gotten a few things from Wish, they were nice, but it takes a long time to get item(s), so long, I forgot I had bought them, I have grip bars similar to those, they are meant for like the shower/tile area, they will not or shouldn't fall of even wet
I have the bike lights and I put a half of a pipe cleaner thru the holes to tie it on the wheel and it works fine for me, but I don’t have spoke wheels like you do.
Those suction-cup handlebars you were trying to put on the wall are very dangerous. How do I know because I have used them? The only way to be fully secure using those is to put some kind of industrial glue on the suction cups then place on the wall to really hold.
Thanks for posting this, I use wish for craft items and they are good quality. The same shops are on aliexpress as well . I like the bag for your chair, handy for when I do long walks with the dogs. Not surprised you were running out of spoons. Take care and stay safe.
Love the video and like you quoted how people look at you like your a robot or something

Hiya Gem. You could do a video about wheelchair tips, tricks, hacks, etc for new wheelchair users. My husband pushes me as I'm unable to wheel myself around much. He's wondering if you have any advice on pushing up and down steep hills, if there's any way to make it easier at all?... And thanks for this fun video, quite entertaining! 😁
@@billiebluesheepie2907 Thank you, that makes sense. We'll definitely try that where there's enough space. Some of the pavements/sidewalks are very narrow. But your advice will save me from crashing into some walls next time lol
I kind of feel bad for you guys struggling with the bath board lol, I have almost exactly like but knew how to put it together. I hate mine, mine is like that wish one, I cant use it because it's so narrow My hips dislocate easily. Since it doesn't support my legs well my hip pops out on it. I've also had issues where my feet slide forward if there's soap on the floor of the tub or something when my foot slides forward so does the rest of my body because my bath board is also really slippery so I've had a lot of injuries from it. Yay for living in the US. But if I had known you, I would have got on webcam or something with you and showed you how to put it together quicker.
Nice laugh! I went to the site and everything is between about 65 and 95% off. You can't look at any details on the items without an account and signing in. For all you older people like me who remember a tv show called "Lost In Space" I will say one line that was probably one of the most common in that show. "Danger Will Robinson, danger!!!!" There can be only one reason why the prices are so low now. Cheap products that were over priced to begin with bought in big lots and now they're trying to avoid a total loss on what they bought. On another topic. Handles, grab bars, railings all need to be installed correctly. You do not suction cup or glue them to painted walls, or tiles. They need to be secured to solid points like the wall studs, flooring (that's if you have a solid subfloor or concrete flooring), floor joists and the like. Some of these are not hard to install yourself if you have a mind to. There are plenty of videos on how to do it. Some are trickier like using wall or floor anchors but you HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. I know that medical equipment is expensive, but trying to save money by buying these stick on or suction cup devices is just not worth risking your safety or health.
Im still very tippy in my wheelchair, if I put absolutely anything on the back I will flip backwards! Did the wheelchair bag change the balance in the chair at all?
Hope you get to go to Australia in the future when things get better. Take care! I’m not physically impaired but I do have autism and find this channel very inspiring! Stay positive and stay safe! ❤️

Love this sort of light-hearted video - it's what we all need every now and then to pick our spirits up! Regards Robert
love the dog, he or she grew up with a boxer loooooong time ago
I have to say I am very picky when it comes to disability equipment, ever since I bought a cheap folding walking stick and it bent and broke whilst I was using it.
Amazing video gem. Sorry you are not getting to go to Australia. This pandemic is crazy. Do you have a name for your mobility aids? I have a manual wheelchair called Loki, an electric called Hela, crutches call bill and ben ( my nephew named them) and a stick called greg (like house)
It was how i learned to accept my aids.
Could you do a video on
- Dealing with stigma of being in a wheelchair when young eg. Being a wheelchair parent etc
- Easy modifications around the house to make like easier
- Struggles and pluses of being in an interabled relationship.
- Dealing with the lockdown while being disabled. ( this lockdown is already driving me crazy)
Thanks. Hope you are having a good day and being safe.
This is going to be good 😊 (on entertainment base 😉)
Cannot believe you found a few good products off wish! That ramp seemed very nice and sturdy. Your husband is so adorable and lovely!
I've had a lot of luck with wish. I've even bought automotive parts and tools off of wish.
Thanks for sharing your videos. Demonstrating all the things that have to be considered for safety and to maintain independence.
I just came across your channel with this video & I’m glad I did. You & Sean are ADORABLE!!! You just gained a fan. xx
I have a fanny pack that I've fitted under my lap, holds my pencil pouch, phone, tablet, ect
You might have looked less odd with the umbrella hat if it'd actually been raining (but probably not)
My mother has pretty much that exact bath board and it works well for her.
You can get umbrella holders mine was marketed as a golf buggy unbrella holder I have it on the inside on my back bar ready to extend when needed
I buy. All my disabled stuff from Amazon.
Absolutely amazing vlog loved this episode as have loved all your others .
Enjoyed your vids very much. I appreciate your fun sharing. Thank you : )))
I am so sorry for you and your family! Stay safe in this crazy times! I would love a video about how you handle pain/ being low on spoons ...
great video gem. we have the lights on my wife's wheelchair the most secure way to attach them is with cable ties.
You can also put that bag under your legs too. I use the stroller type. I use it to put my purse in :)
yall had me laughin so hard with the wearable umbrella ! comical duo ! i love it ! lmao
Gem this video really brightened my day very funny .....& you know I’m a big fan of a brollyhat!!
I actually have those grab rails (not from wish! They are on my tiles and have never come off. I don't use them for my full weight though x
If you want softer lights on your wheels you might try some battery fairy lights. Just tie on the battery compartment & wrap the wired fairy lights wherever you want them. They're cheap too & not as likely to give you a headeache.
You and hubby should do a comical cooking show lol
We have those hat umbrellas in South Africa. They are great for watching cricket matches.
Thanks Gem I loved the video and have always wondering about the wish items!
Ty stay well gem
One year since this video was posted wow so much has changed yet so much has stayed the same love you Gem xx ❤️
The thing about the sticky on grabsit bar is you need to depend on it!
i actually have one of those little bathroom handles (though not from wish) and its really useful! i take it to people's houses lol
I used to have the same problem with the umbrella hat and I found a little hack. if you use hair grips it will stay on your head.
I use a fall alert button, grab bars, and and an extension graber.
Your glasses are so cute! It's sad that we can't go to Australia I was gonna go this summer.
Loved this video Gem!💖
This video made me smile so much!
Love the video and like you quoted how people look at you like your a robot or something
Hi, Gem!
I see your videos since last year and I love your channel. I'm from Argentina and thankfully english speaker. If you want, I can give help subtitle your videos to Spanish! It would be so helpfull for the spanish speaker disabled community!
Let me know :) and thanks for helping me to deal with my own disability ❤
Could you show us how you get up stairs?
I really liked this video!
I want a good one of the sling cuz I have always wanted to be carried like that i love being carried I’ve seen good ones but they only go up to 90 lbs and I’m 120
Holy cats you all make me laugh. Much needed laughs at that. Thank you
I don’t think it helped that you had the umbrella hat on while it wasn’t raining 😂
Best tip is to zig-zag your way up or down.
@@billiebluesheepie2907 Thank you, that makes sense. We'll definitely try that where there's enough space. Some of the pavements/sidewalks are very narrow. But your advice will save me from crashing into some walls next time lol
have a look at this video. It should help. ua-cam.com/video/7kvsEfoGVpY/v-deo.html
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Get a battery-powered (waterproof) LED light strand and see how they work woven into your wheelchair spokes!
Hi Gem have a great day love from TEXAS
My sister ordered mobility scooters for both of us on wish..... 2 1/2 years ago. Never got them. Never again!
Im still very tippy in my wheelchair, if I put absolutely anything on the back I will flip backwards! Did the wheelchair bag change the balance in the chair at all?
Loved this video!
Hope you get to go to Australia in the future when things get better. Take care! I’m not physically impaired but I do have autism and find this channel very inspiring! Stay positive and stay safe! ❤️
The umbrella hat is cool!
I have he bike wheel lights shown at timestamp 2:50 for my chair. I really like them, but my hands aren’t strong enough to turn them on and off by myself.
I've tried the suction cup handle bars for rentals. They will eventually fail and unstuck. Definitely do not recommend from a safety perspective.
