  • In this video I removed the valve cover and intake camshaft to see what kind of clues I could find as to why this happened to my new to me FJR.

Someone did something wrong when adjusting valves maybe? Never heard of this with an fjr

Yeah, it was ashame to see this nice engine have this catastrophic event. When I took it apart it looks barely even used on the inside. I hear that a lot about the fjr engine and I think it is a very reliable and well built engine.

Looks like design malfunction, maybe you can get by with just a head. I couldn't ever trust that again lol.

I bought a 2012 Engine on Ebay, this engine would cost too much to fix. I'm not sure of the cause really. Thanks for the comment.

That’s what happens when piston contacts the valve either you spun a rod bearing which is unlikely or your cam chain was so worn out your cam sprocket skip a tooth or your cam tensioner failed

I’ve checked the cct and cam chain as well as alignment, everything is good. I believe the previous owner did or had done a valve adjustment and something went wrong. From the first day I got this it acted funny on #2 cylinder with the throttle body sync. Something held the valve open long enough to come in contact with the piston. A lot of carnage in there.

I'm not sure, it's kind of a mystery but I suspect someone did a poor job on the valve adjustment, but just a theory.

Yep. Find another engine for peace of mind. Keep that for parts.

I don't think that it is, everyone that I talked to about this engine said it is a bulletproof engine. I just happen to get the one bad one. : )
