Very interesting. My favorite lathe is my Weiler condor VS2 which is almost the same as Yours. It had a similar issue, had to fix the captive T nuts. There was no damage to the cast iron grove, now the angle can be indicated and locked with very good accuracy. I have turned ok morse tapers that way.
