I am the one who asked for the demo and it was great! Mine is a #2 and it is just the head. I have had it for 3 years and been afraid to use it because it was quite clear to me that it was much smarter than I was. I searched high and low for information with little success. Your willing ness to share your expertise is wonderful, thank you!
Hi Bob, so glad that it helped. Did not realise until I went to edit that the top of it was out of view when I was telling you about how to reverse it to wind back to the start. It was Push the top pin back down, might need to rotate the top ring slightly to find a hole, the side pin needed pulling out. Thanks for watching. Enjoy using yours now. Regards.
I just picked a number two up at an auction, But I thought the Arbor Would be able to be used in an R8 Collet with my Bridgeport But it has a taper. I've asked Dave for some suggestions. On what to do. By the way i am a 72 year old newbie
Glad to help. Enjoy using it. If you have just been using a Chinese import one, you will definitely find a big difference. These are quality and very accurate boring and facing heads. Thanks for watching and your comment. Regards.
Hello Don, thanks for the view and comment. Welcome to the engineering World, you will find that there is so much to learn. Please have a look at some of my other videos, there are tips and tricks amongst them. You are never too old to learn. Regards.
Thanks for the view. The Japanese made a copy of it, may be worth a search on E-bay. It was called a Kuroda UFB-3 for the UPA 3 German version. Don't know if it was in other sizes. They were made 30 odd Years ago. Good hunting. Regards.
Hello Bruce, thank for the view. I have a correction to make on the video description. The stops Will cut out the feed when the stops hit, the top button will pop up and stop the feed. So you will be able to use the handle for feeding. I just tried my UPA 2 and the top button popped up. My UPA 3 must be a bit harder to do, I was probably being over cautious as TBH that was the first time I had ever used it for facing. Regards.
Thank you again Mr T for another show and tell. your explanation of this great tool. and what you say about the chinglish import boring heads can cause much swearing and double and checking all the time with the DTi.
So glad that you enjoyed the video Martin. Yes a super tool now in short supply at sensible prices, as YT has shown how good they are compared to a standard Chinese one. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes.
Great video, the small ones are rare where I am and very expensive. I find myself doing small work with the larger heads The full kits are nice but I have not seen anyone really use those items anyway. I may pick up a 3" without the kit. Thanks for the demo!
As I mentioned in Dee Dee's channel, these were also made under licence here in Japan by Karoda Precision and MST. The Japanese versions are just as good as the German made ones in my opinion, and are much more available and reasonably priced over here. A typical set is under $400 US, and I've paid as little as $150 for one of my collection.
Hi Paul, yes a few teething problems to sort out with the camera. I would like to use an external microphone but it is not as good as the built in mic. My neighbour is an Audio man and he will have a look at it for me, expect it is my finger trouble. LOL I like the zoom and manual focus too. Going to do another one over the next 2 days. Stay tuned. Regards.
The genuine articles are works of art. You mentioned owning an Aciera - would you consider making a video to show off its versatility, please? Thanks for sharing, Dave.
Hello Russell, DOH ! you have caught me out. LOL When I mentioned Aciera FC 3, I don't actually own one. We had plenty at Philips and I scrounged a High Speed Head off of one to fit onto my Tom Senior Junior Universal Milling machine that I show in my Shop Tour in case you have not seen it yet. SORRY. They use the W 20 collets. I must be more careful in what I say next time LOL. Thanks for watching and the comment. Hopefully a new video tomorrow or Saturday. Regards.
@@daveticehurst4191 No problems, Dave. Now for my own confession: I do own an Aciera F3, complete with the high speed head (which I recognised instantly on your milling machine), and dividing head. What I don't have is the camera and equipment needed to make videos.
@@russelldold4827 Hi Russell, perhaps you could add them to your Birthday and Christmas wish lists. Drop a few hints to your friends and Relations. LOL Do you watch Mr Crispin, he has a super Aciera setup that came from a Research labs, has everything Aciera made for it. Regards.
I looked at Mr Crispin's channel and found his video on moving all his machines into his new workshop. It turns out he has a Bridgeport and a Deckel milling machine. The Deckel is very similar to the Aciera F3 in capacity and versatility.
@@daveticehurst4191 it is a very nifty piece of engineering. What is really impressive is the way the head does the disengament. I took it appart and going to clean it. The only piece missing is the lock nut with 6 holes to lock the adjustment rings as you explained it: it is impressive that that nut lockes the ?jib? and the lower ring as you demonstrated. Cheers
@@daveticehurst4191 if it snaps out of your hand means that there is to much pressure on the adjustmentscrew at the side near the divetail. If you turn it almost out means that it will disengage at little tool pressure. I think your adjustment screw is quite deep. This system should work for the two auto stops plus it is a protection when you run into something
At @7:10 of the video, the locking screw. How does it work? Does it push a ball bearing into two locking mechanisms? I have a Mizoguchi version and it appears identical to yours. Trying to reverse engineer the parts needed. Thank you and excellent video, long time sub.
Great video Dave ! You can buy a cheap car for less than what you will pay for one of those these days 🤣 - nice bit of kit if you have a use for it though ! One thing you don't see much of these days on UA-cam is using a toolmakers chair , used to be something that an apprentice would make and can be a handy tool , if you have one it would make for an interesting video for some I'm sure .
Hi Ian, thanks for the view. Funny you should say about a Toolmakers Chair. Been trying to buy one for Months now, all in the USA at SILLY money let alone the postage to Australia. Partly made one, just needs grinding now after hardening. Will bear it in mind for future video. Regards.
Thank you for your video I just found it I just picked up a UPA to warring and facing head would you mind if I emailed you questions about how to use it specifically can I put the shank in an R8 Collett for Bridgeport mill
Do you know how to set the regulating screw.ive found an old manual that references that it sets sensitivity of feed button but I can't find any other information on it
Hi thanks for the view and question. Yes you can adjust the sensitivity by adjusting screw 9 shown on the instruction sheet. As far as I know it changes the tripping point if say the tool jams or is too big a cut. If you email me davesozzyworkshop@gmail.com I can send you the instruction manual as a .pdf. If you scroll to page 3 paragraph b of the manual, it mentions it there. I have never needed to adjust mine. Hope this helps. Looking forward to your email. Regards.
