An hour or so with the a pre-production DJI Phantom 3 at Rhyolite, an abandoned mining town in Nevada on a very windy day.
It did pretty well considering the wind. I only had jello issues on some really windy moments, one shot I put in this edit despite that as I really like it. I will see if I can do more in post to remove it! The wind did stop me doing some of the more intricate shots I had hoped to do. One of the things I love about the Phantom over the Inspire 1 is the size but when the wind is blowing the motors and gps can only do so much so I had to play it pretty safe!
This was shot in 4K 30p and conformed to 23.976p to get a little slow down.
Check out loads more info and thoughts, comparing with the previous Phantom and the Inspire 1 on my website here: wp.me/p3ggTR-8L1

This is really impressive not just the shots but the fact this film is almost 3 minutes and it feels like a 50 seconds.

My folks took me there many years ago. The train station was open as a museum and snack bar. And you could buy trinkets from the old woman who still lived in the bottle house. Her and her husband, who had passed away a couple of years earlier, built that bottle house back when there were still trains coming through the town. Hard to believe, but there were 5 railroads that went through that town, at one time.

...and when you think about years before when we used to install cranes for hours and have an operator on top of it recording with a massive camera, then planes and helicopters just to shoot a few scenes! Now anyone can do better for a few bucks ... :D That's what I call evolution :)

Incredible job once again Mr. Bloom, What you need to do is either build or have someone build you a drone capable of carrying a Red Dragon, or your favorite video camera. You could have had a much easier time using the inspire 1 but I don't think you could have done any better.

Hello Philip. I am making a documentary about a legendary theater in Vermont. I've shot some of the interviews and b rolls by bmpcc. The main part of the documentary will be shot in October. I have been thinking of using black magic Ursa Mini if it comes out. I also will shoot the b-rolls and the first interviews with Ursa again. Bmpcc impressed me. I didn't use my Bmcc because it shows some fnp in the shadows when it's underexposed or dark. I want to shoot it in 4K and export it full HD. I was wondering if I could use DJI phantom 3 footage with BM Ursa footage. I wonder how it would hold on a festival screen. Opening the Documentary with the aerial shots of Vermont was my intention. But now I am worried a little bit. Thank you very much in advance. Also thank you for all the information and the education I got from you over the years.

Philip Bloom I own drones and I know this is a "proto type". But wind don't create jello.wind create shake and left to right turbulence your jello come from unfinished design on gimble and anti-jello parts. I will wait few months to get it. Lear my experience with my inspire 1 I rush to get it and jello issues drove my crazy till I got it replace.

Philip Bloom I noticed this video was posted more than a month ago. By now, do you have any improvements in how to avoid the moire defect?
Also I noticed the lens flares are not that great. Do you share the opinion that the Gopro 3+ or 4 did much better in lens flares then this DJI camera? Did you think DJI ND filters would help a little?
Hope to get you opinion on this. thank you.

Hey Phillip how are you man? I hope all is well. I have two questions for you: can I use the Metabones MFT to EF adapter I brought for my GH4 on the Blackmagic Pocket camera? and between the Canon C500, Red Scarlet, and the Blackmagic URSA, which would you recomend for Indie film production? I'm looking to shoot something that can be picked up by the distributors.

Quick question: Would the Phantom 3 be a good first drone? or just go straight to Phantom 4 Pro. I do grade my footages and the 100 MBps sounds real nice on the P4P. But as a first drone, i feel like I should start small. Thoughts?

    • @will.walker

Camro Neil Laguardia sorry for the late reply...
The phantom 3 4k is an amazing drone. Unless you are doing commercial grade work dont bother getting the newer generation phantom 4.
Is this your first drone ever? If so, go buy one of the cheapo drones first like a syma. Use that cheapo drone to practice, then move up to the big drones. If this isnt your first quadcopter then go right ahead and get the phantom. You will love it!

according to this video there's 2 blackbars upside and downside the video , is that 2 black bars automatically added to the video after recording by DJI's drone itself or we need to edit using another apps after recording ? thankyou before

Google "aspect ratio overlays", there are many websites that have free packs of them. They are still images that you place on the top video track in your video editor. This video looks like it is using a 2.35 aspect ratio, or something similar.

+madearisp Always go with manual exposure if you'r making a video. Its going to make it easier to color grade and things like that. otherwise you have to split the footage up and color grade it separately, then match it up. And even cut away the footage were the camera is making the adjustment, shifting form dark to brighter and vice versa.
