DJI Phantom 3 | 4K Footage

- We were given a Phantom 3 about 1 month before it’s announcement to shoot footage for DJI. In the process of putting it through it’s paces, we decided that an abandoned steel mill would be the best place to see what this thing could actually do. This location is full of metal (typical of causing EMF/compass issues), and tight spaces. While the P3 did experience some compass issues due to its highly sensitive flight control system, we managed to squeeze it into some very tight spaces that would otherwise not be able to be shot with anything larger. I was very impressed with the 4K camera’s abilities in low light situations. The shadows are super black straight from the camera. It handled incredibly well in 15+ mph wind gusts as well. This is an amazing tool for any professional’s fleet.

Incredible images. Hard to believe that's a quad. The camera took care of some tricky lighting but still had plenty of contrast and snap. Great stuff!

Nice flying, looks like the built in sensors are the real deal for flying in enclosed spaces. Footage looks great from the camera too, any post optics compensation? I'm sure the new FOV helps with not doing much post work other than color.

This is really impressive footage! Talking of compass issues in a steel-rich environment: how did those present themselves, and how did you handle them? Was it just an error message in the app, or did you have to take counter measures? I'm planning for a video inside a railway museum roundhouse, which obviously is full of metal as well.... Thanks!

The first thing I thought when I saw this was... WOW, if those two people were Aerith and Cloud, this would be the BEST spoiler footage from a Final Fantasy 7 live-action movie! haha. I'm inches away from buying a Phantom 3 myself. This video may have pushed me over the line. ;)
Compared to the inspire 1, footage wise is their a big difference? I mean it's all about frame rates and sensors to get that 'film' look, you can do your best in post production with colour grading but to really get the 'look' the latter helps. So would this be any less than the Inspire 1???

Trying to get back into shooting video for fun right now. Last time I enjoyed shooting, nobody even used drones for video. This video may have just rekindled something I kind of miss. Hopefully the learning curve to flying isn't too hard!
Wow, great work and what a quality (can only view in 1080p)! I´m wondering if You shot in auto or manual mode, and what your thoughts are around this? Manual mode is one feature I´m longing for in my coming P3P, not possible in Vision+.

Nice video. I just ordered a P3. Does the Lightbridge work as well as it's advertised? I'm also curious how well it works indoors with the new sensor on the bottom. And did you remove any distortion or is that just how it came out straight from the camera? Thanks!
The Phantom's camera looks sharper then the main camera that is filming the Phantom. :-)

The picture setting was LOG. The ISO was never higher than 100. My adjustments were all on the shutterspeed, watching the histogram until the exposure was right. The post production was done in Premiere CC (color grade with Lumetri Color)
Wife's family lived up the hill from the furnaces. Remember them running out to the backyard yelling "Carrie furnace, Carrie furnace" to take the drying close off the line when the furnace blew orange particles all over the neighborhood. No wonder so many people have cancer there today.

Hi there, Great video! I just watched it in 1080 as my pc can't handle 4k due to slow connection...to laggy. I have a P3Pro myself and wondering what settings you used to render your video and how large the file was for this 4 minute video. I have sony vegas pro to render but use handbrake to compress further for youtube but my quality is very much lacking compared to what you show here. I would appreciate your input if possible. My export settings for Adobe Media Encoder are ProRes 422 HQ. A lot of the quality in this video comes from using ND filters to keep the exposure where it needs to be.
7linemedia Thank you for demonstrating the low light abilities of the camera. It's been hard to find info on that. I was wondering what camera settings you used to avoid noise? I assume you weren't on Auto ISO or Auto exposure? Also, I must commend your pilot. Excellent job being smooth, and piloting some complex shots in tight spaces, particularly the shot from 2:00-2:12.

Yo Man, what picture styles are you shooting on the pantoms? i got the p4 and really struggling to get a good looking flat footage and then bring it back in PP...watching this is making me annoyed because i cant get the quality haha

ken block Its the clip that attaches to the harness. It's not actually on the control stick.
