  • This time at the Quick Speed Shop I'm having a gas of a time putting two new fuel tanks in Project Green Machine, my 1995 Ford F250 OBS extended cab truck. My truck is the long wheel base so it has the 19 gal front tank and 18 gal rear tank. I reused the rear straps, but installed new front straps. The total job was about 5 - 5.5 hrs with hand tools and wasn't too bad. Both OG tanks leaked and the new tanks were protected with some lanolin rust prevention. All parts were ordered from Rock Auto.
    Rear tank: SPECTRA PREMIUM F1G 18 gal
    Front tank: SPECTRA PREMIUM F6C 19 gal
    Front straps: SPECTRA PREMIUM ST03
    Lanolin rust prevetion: Fluid Film Black and Woolwax Black
    Please like, share, and subscribe. I put out new videos every Wednesday and Saturday.

    I bought an old building in a small Texas town and I found a 1989 Ford F25 4x4 truck in the back of the building. It was parked there in 2000. The inspection sticker was 2000. It has 40,000 miles on the odometer and the previous owner told me that he parked it there and forgot about it, and that the mileage was correct. It hasn't been started in 23 years. I put new tires on it, changed all the fluids, replaced both gas tanks - exactly the same way you did your truck, and today is the day I find out if my efforts have paid off. I'm about to start her up for the first time in 23 years - wish me luck!

      That sounds like a great truck. Good luck, should fire up!

    Seeing this makes me extremely thankful I live in the southwestern part of Colorado. Rust like that doesn't happen here. Only other thing I'd do for piece of mind would be replace the pumps, straps, hardware, and rubber components. I wouldn't trust a unknown, possibly original... nearly 28 year old pump. I wouldn't want to do that job more than once. I have bad luck with things, so YMMV!

    I just finished this job but I went with the F26E Bronco 38gal rear tank and installed Bean's Diesel sumps for the new electric fuel pump. I'm in Florida and have had my Florida truck since 96 and am so glad I don't have that rust issue. The job was fairly easy and now I have 57 gals total. 407K and my truck is is very nice condition still.

    Oh yeah! some old F150 action, I thought of you one day last month, I was handed paperwork and keys to a vehicle for repair and my first thought oh boy them are some old keys and paperwork said 95 F150. I got lucky it had lived it whole life right here in Phoenix Az. and every nut and bolt came loose with no troubles. thanks for these AWESOME video's.

      Yeah, must be nice! I've had bolts break off on 5 year old cars here in NY!

    If the engineers that designed these had to work on them we wouldn’t have in tank fuel pumps.

    My 95 front tank sprung a leak underneath the front of it where the factory put
    a plastic guard to protect it from stones. The connections were a bear to get off!
    The rear tank is still the original as are both pumps. Got my fingers crossed the
    pumps don't quit & the rear tank holds up

    you're a better man than me doing that on the ground! you said in a previous video that the new pole barn is going to have a 21x21 work area with a lift.... I would leave it all open, putting the f250 on a lift in a 21 foot deep bay would be tight. take my advice with a grain of salt, I am only speaking from my experience

    • @QuickSpeedShop

      Yeah, I hear you on the shop size, but really don't have room for anything larger with all the other cars I have stored in there. I wish I had made the building twice as big, but built what I could do at the time.

    I can see why you definitely would want to use something like Fluid Foam to protect your fig where they use salt on the roads. They have started to do that here in southwest Washington the last couple years, who ever thought that was a good ‘ide-er’ , we sure didn’t vote on it. Question, does that Fluid Foam ever dry?

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  3 роки тому +1

      Salt is the worst. I live 30 min from the largest rock salt mine in the northeast. Its terrible and ruins every single car driven in it. The Fluid Film doesn't ever dry. It mixes with dirt and makes a water and salt impervious grime that covers and protects everything. I'll take a grimey underside over my truck rotting away any day.

    What the heck is the smaller hose coming from the filler neck into the regular filler neck hose? I saw that taking mine apart and was wondering if it was OEM. Watching your video I see it is. Right now wishing I had some help and would just take the bed off. . . That filler hose is a pain. And, my exhaust pipe is much closer to the drive shaft so not much room to get to the top of the tank to unhook things. . . Thanks for the video.

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  8 місяців тому

      It's the filler vent so the gas doesn't blow back on fillup.

    • @harveyfloyd6045
      @harveyfloyd6045 8 місяців тому

      Sure don't work on mine. Gas has to go in very slow or it does back up. . .

    Looks like the rust prevention makes every repair a nasty one. Does it wash out of the coveralls easy or are they waxy for life?

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  3 роки тому +1

      It wrecks the coveralls, but I keep a junk pair for nasty stuff like this.

    I’m doing this in my 95 f250 midship tank and looking at your fuel pump I think they gave me the wrong fuel pump wrong straps but the right tank fuel pump I bought has 3 ports on it not 2

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  Рік тому +1

      There are 2 mid tanks, 16 gal and 18/19 gal depending on shortbed or longbed. Straps might differ. 3 port pump might be for '87-'91 trucks. Look stuff up on RockAuto. You can look at pictures of parts there.

    thanks so much. i just stripped rust off my OBS undercarriage and corosealed and raptor lined it. I also replaced rear filler neck. my rear tank is leaking. I have several pin holes and need to replace rear tank. i did have it partially removed. Question: how do rear fuel supply/return lines disconnect? are they couplings ? Thanks sm!

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  Рік тому

      They are a quick connect fitting that requires a special fuel line tool. I did a video on this truck where I replaced the fuel filter and I showed the tool and how it works.

    I wonder why you didn't take the opportunity to put in a 38 gallon rear tank?

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  Рік тому

      Because the truck already can hold that about with the stock tanks and can run over 400 miles that way.

      @@QuickSpeedShop I haul my 28 foot race trailer all over the place, I have a stock front tank, a 38 rear and a 108 bed tank, good for about 12-1400 miles, time spent looking for fuel otherwise adds up to too much down time for me.

      Wast of money, had to cut the float into and add a peace just to fall off later, modified the straps to fit, couldn’t put my spare tire under anymore, Just use the right size tanks and enjoy it, I didn’t drive it enough to need the larger tank anyway,
