Gregg!! I have those shim for ya. I got 2 of em
Get this to the top!
Who else remembers the old days when Greg would call everything a Bad Larry?
If you can, try and get in contact with Ezrider92356 he has stretched his peterbilt with a newer rear end
jake bockus lol right I love watching his channel
When i started watching Greg he still had the triple turbo set up and over time I never really thought man I wish Greg would get into big rig stuff but I’m honestly really glad he did and I almost look forward too those videos. Can’t wait to see it driving. And hopefully possibly see it in person if you plan on taking it to events or hauling it to the drag strip 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Subbed for the Peterbilt content. Love to see it getting better each video.
Do the cutoff Man. I'm in the process now with my 87 359. Went from 240 wb (Canadian Truck ) to 270 wb. Used a cutoff from an early 379 with the tighter American spread, went from 3.70 to 3.90 ratio, and upgraded from Air-Trac to Air-Leaf. Good chance to upgrade a whole lot in one shot. Should be pretty decent when I'm finished and get back on the road. Can't wait to see what you pull off. Oh, and I finally subscribed. Lol
Awesome Red Truck love that...
OMG that first gen! 😍 My first truck was red like that. And man do I miss polishing and looking at that rig 👍🏻
Welcome to NC, I knew you were heading our way as soon as I saw those roads!
It was nice to meet you man! Looking forward to watching you build your Pete! I hope that mangled ratchet strap worked out for ya lol
You should build your first gen like the red one. That is a beautiful truck.
your just need to check the measurements on that cut off there is some different frame options that could be make/break even if the rear ends are not the same it can still work your need to get the computer re flashed for a different gear ratio assuming that ratio will still work for you. there is also some interchangeability with the 3rd's and different housings you may be able to stuff your 3rd members into the newer housings. check truck alignment shops for the caster shims.
great having you in my live stream last night bud!!
I would rather the guy keeps the red first gen he’s got it stock and clean and sexy not blacked out lowered and tore apart like all the other trucks it’s so nice seeing a nice stock clean truck for once don’t see them very often
From what I know about stretching frames is to get your donor frame and cut it off as long as you can. When you figure out how long you want your frame miter cut the frame rails on each frame. When you miter cut the frame rails cut the miters opposite of each other. After you square up the frame and burn it in bolt in a double frame from the cab back. That is how we have stretched frames for heavy haul trucks.
Greg, can you share the part numbers for the roof bows, console, brackets, cross brace, sleeper ring and anything else needed to convert the cab to a flat top. I'm wanting to do the same to my 2003 and switch to a 48" sleeper
Loved it on the way home, you could hear your turbo whistle loud and clear.....sweet music. I bet that dually is an open road beast.
that red 1st gen is amazing and i love your twin semi
That red 1st gen is what you need to do to your first gen
Went and got popcorn and when I came back , it was over
That truck hauled low boy trailers with the skid plates on the back frame
I swear it looked like 26k axles that had 24.5" tires on it, I wasn't sure if he'd want the larger rear end or if he could keep his current rear diffs and then put them on that suspension?
Have you looked into low low air leaf and a car hauler front end?
MD Alignment in Des Moines ia. will have the shims or know where to get them and tell you how to get the best caster and toe in .
Dude, the red first gen 🤤
Man that is way cool... you passed right through my hometown in Marion, North Carolina after you went down Old Fort Mountain in the beginning of the video. Love the videos and hoping to compound my 98’ 12v like your first gen in the near future.
THOSE GUYS AT PIEDMONT PETERBILT ARE AN AWESOME GROUP OF GUYS.
Ya u should be able to use that cutoff. If you look at the tag on the rears its self itll say on there. Be nice if you could get at least 336 in it cause that'll put you running 75 at 1500 rpms.
Yea Greg that cut off will work just measure the frame rails are the same. And get your front spring sparser and machine them dawn. Love the content
That first gen is a beauty.
Greg I think you need about 330”’of wheel base lol
stretching the frame isnt difficult.....more intimidating than anything. many methods of how to crate the actual splice. ezrider92356 and i both have done video series on this recently. it can be done with correctly with minimal tools. finding the right frame size cutoff is key. if it doesnt have the right ratio but has the same differential housings you can swap out your center section or "3rd member". another option would be to re-flash the ecm to the correct ratio. if you are a good welder....your in there. if your not....tack it in place and have a good welder come in and do the splice. i like to line the inside of the frame at the splice joint. i also like a "mechanical" connection as a back up.....bolts going through both sections of frame on either side of the splice.
THAT RED IS AWESOME!
As for as the cutoffs, as long as the frame height is the same. They will work. As from as the rear ends, as long as the dif housings are the same band and series, just swap difs out with yours. One thing to keep in mind, you have to check abs valves to see if those are the same.
Wow that red 1st gen 👌🏻😎
that first gen is just wow.
that first gen's mint, when i get mine back together when i finally put some time aside for it ill have to send in some pictures ;) my red is a bit darker but thats pretty close
Wow that first gen is amazing
Awesome awesome video Greg A, nice road trip for the dually haven’t seen it out in a while, good to give it some exercise lol. Wow what an awesome find for a doner truck to stretch the ol peterbuilt lol hopefully the frame checks out and it’ll fit.
I’d highly suggest finding a nice Airliner cut off. The truck will ride so much better and parts are cheaper. We have a bunch of older trucks and we put all of them on airliner cut offs. Pete’s ride ok but they won’t touch a airliner on ride. Contact me if ya want more help with them or info!
Every post about the Pete I’m going to say you should black it out lol!
Bro I just added 70” to my 96 379 frame. Let me know if you need info and some solid first hand insight
Those suspension shims you can normally get them from any truck tire shop that does alignment and balancing I’ve gotten them from FALCON TIRE
Low air leafs are the worst suspension when I was excavating we had a 90’s Pete with it and once a week a leaf would snap in half and the axle would shift back so you would have to “come along” it back in place and put a new one in
That 1st gen is beautiful
Those are just caster shims call a truck alignment shop and they’ll have them.
Gotta watch those ads for Greg. I wanna see that semi come together!
I love how you go to my own town to get parts and moved to Kentucky (my state I moved to) 😂
Can you share the part numbers for the roof bow and console and sleeper ring? Approximate price? I'm wanting to do the same thing to my '03 379
Send me an email and i will get you those part numbers mvmurphy514@gmail.com
The only thing that will matter doin a rear clip swap is the frame rails it, all just depends on if those are the rear ends you want.
Air ride the entire thing, if you want it lower in the front put a car hauler steer axle in it’ll drop the front a bit. Get yourself a single axle haha they’re always fun
I think freightliner frame rails will slide into peterbilt frame rails. Love the red first gen boy its clean love red. I have owned 4 cummins there we all bright red. Still have 2 of them
That cutoff should work, cut at a angle with frame inserts ,if you are not gonna pull heavy loads I would go 3.55, 3.58 triple digit Large car 👍🏾
We are smashing and subbing, to get you over the 200,000 hump
I would love to restore my first gen to look like that and boost the power but with it being my first and only truck while in high school it’s a lot harder then I thought it would be.
I had the same problem with my first truck. I wanted to fix every little issue but needing it for school and work it was really hard. I fixed what I could and drove it for 4 years until I finally bought a new car. Now it's completely torn apart ready to get some serious work done. Don't give up on it, it's awesome to see my first vehicle turning from turd to badass like this.
I wanna say paint some for your trucks different colors but I love that they all match so maybe pant the first gens black
If you're going to stretch the frame, you may want to consider doing it now before you paint the frame 🙂👍
That yellow Pete had your name all over it...literally
Best way to drop a truck is a car hauler front axle regular trucks have about 3.5" drop car haulers have bout 5.5" plus they way you set up springs
Hey Greg sorry to get off subject, but which Thuren coils did you end up with on your dually? I have an 18 dually with air suspension too and gonna do a suspension like yours but don't want the front end too high. thanks buddy
Amazing they swap frame Where you people locate nice collection of truck
Do a cut out but go with disc brakes... That 1 does work... Just make sure the axles are the same ratio
Just spend 4 hours at a pete dealer yesterday. Didn't leave with a truck but saw and drove some beauties
Color match the grill and fuel tanks.
How would the rear ratios be a problem that is the drive axles and it might change the speed a little but you should be able to make it work
Look at converting the steer to air ride and as long as the frame rails are the same dimensions, it’ll all work
U were like 45 minutes from me. love the videos keeping coming I have a peterbilt as well let me know if you need anything
Missed them roadtrip vlogs
Hey Greg. Now that your doing you tube full time will you get in to doing give away builds
First thought, you can find anything for a 379 Greg! 😂
Despise peterbilt low leaf suspension. On every day 244” trucks slightest issue give major vibration. Once stretch. Just leaves that much more. It’ll definitely pay to have that dealership in your back pocket. They’ve done enough of them to keep yer low leaf alignment up to snuff. I much prefer a KW 8 bag set up for dropping rail low as it’ll go
If you can find the spec's on the blocks, they would be super cheap to have made in a machine shop
Does I80 (letter i) offer the shims by chance? I know they offer a ton of bling for rigs.
I literally work across the highway from piedmont peterbuilt and I’m pissed I never run into you cause I have a peterbuilt in the fleet I work on
Hey Greg what rims are on your dually? And what did you use for the inside dual?
Get a machine shop to make those shims
What Peterbilt dealer was that Ever dealer i talk to do the flat top conversion tells me i cant do it i ave the exact rig you have love the build.
outta control offroad this is Piedmont Peterbilt out of Greensboro North Carolina we can hook you up with almost anything.
Does Greg still work for freedom racing?
that music at the beginning scared the shit out of me
I kinda wanna see what one of those big CATs would do with a very large set of compounds on it lol
Go look at PDI
It’s called a C15 acert. A few companies make aftermarket setups but single sound better
A lot of guys will single turbo swap the acert cats
Sweet 93
I think you should replace the hole frame under it and do the air ride off that truck
I miss driving... not worth a 200 fine right now here in PA
Restos & Rebuilds Walt we could get a $200 fine for driving rn?
I just drove across PA end to end on I80, both ways. No fine and plenty of cars out...
@@jonathanhynes5318 If they find a reason to pull you over, say tail light out and you aren't doing something essential, they can fine you 200. With my luck, not worth risking it.
@@kylesonsalla7620 They aren't going to pull over cars on the interstates, turnpike etc... it's a the small towns you got to watch out for.
It's a $750 fine per person here in Ontario to be in a car with someone not from your house hold. Or hanging out less than 2 meters apart anywhere in public. And yes, they are pulling cars over and checking/fining people.
That 1st Gen is MINT
Is this the peterbilt dealer in Greensboro nc
Country Boy56 yep
do you like the look of the old school round headlights.
Need to order air ride front end from 12ga customs that’ll get you more low in the front
As long as the frame is the same size it will work
You should name your semi Darth Vader
👍🏻 red 1st gen
I wish I could get back in a truck but the state of Indiana took away my CDL and blocked me from ever getting another one. I love these videos but their real hard to watch.
Peterbilt of Greensboro 👍👍.......if the guy with the red first gen is reading these comments, what led headlights you running? Or anyone know? Maybe Greg can find out🤞🤞...... one sweet dually👍👍
Truck Lite headlights
@@taymDodge cool, thx.....looks sweet👍👍
Dope 👍🏼👍🏼 stretch it 🤞🏼 #str88ch 🤣😂
You need to get the swan
Damn straight!! Let’s get some gold and silver swan action Greg. Get one for every truck in the yard. Lol. But seriously. The pete needs one. 👍
13 speed swap on the other truck behind this white one with the rear ends lol?
I would not use a 2007 Peterbilt frame, they used a different kind of steel that had terrible problems with rusting
Just more preventive maintenance for the Peterbilt
All the info is usually in the glovebox on the door or on sticker inside standard frame height is 10 mm when they are 3/4 double frame or full double the frames can be between 12mm to 13 mm in height depends on what length you are going for as to where you will want to cut it to get the length you want I figure you are trying to build a show truck so those 387 wb is usually between 236-245 in length
Nice!!
It don’t matter bout the rears if you use them new ones
Is the Peterbilt going to be macho man Andy’s truck so he can be an owner/operator?
Cummins Falls?
