Beautiful blades Doc , a Koraat has been on my list for along time & just about every time I get ready to order one , BAM 💥 life happens /lol . I’m with you on the long monkey tail , they just get in the way . Have a great week Doc !
that's a big blade. i keep most of mine 8/8ths or a tad smaller myself. ( my daily drivers) looks cool though. seems like a nice shave Dr matt. it is good to see you on here again. cheers ! -cam- 𓅓
How can it not be an excellent shave when using a Sprecher, Dr. Matt! Lol! I have a 10/8 Sprecher and it shaves very well. It better because it was pricey. I never had a problem stropping my Sprecher because I pinch the both sides of the shaft with my thumb and forefinger. I find that it gives me the stability when I flip the blade going from one face to the other. Have a great week! PS By the way, I have another custom razor from ArtRazor made in the Ukraine by Yurii Kravchenko. It is a 13/8 unmuted sq pt and I don't have a problem stropping or shaving with it.
Good ear! Yes, the smaller one was a different grind, more hollow so it makes more noise than the other which is a 1/4 hollow or thicker steel so the sound doesn’t resonate like the thinner, smaller blade.
I've had everything from 4/8ths to 8/8ths, extra hollow to near wedge. Really liked some, not liked others. I shave everyday with a pretty standard Wade and Butcher 6/8ths 1/2 hollow. Nice size with a bit of mass behind it. Sometimes standard seems to work best for me.
Nice control, handling, execution. Interesting comments about aspects to perhaps experience and verify (if and after I've forked out the dough to purchase a MS straight razor). Thanks. Best wishes.
Great video Matt 👌 After shaving with different razor's shapes & sizes, I think I'm more fan of the traditional shape between around 6/8. I find them easier to handle, strop and restore.
When you rinse while shaving do you do it with cold water? I heard in a movie a feller told his pardner to run cold water over his razor when shaving. It draws the metal up & makes it sharper. Well, I tried it & durn if I don't think he's right.
I have a Japanese made straight razor blade that I would like to get it sharpened I'm just afraid to ruin it maybe you can make a video on sharpening that blade?
Great video Matt I've had and sold on a couple of max sprecher they was beautiful razors but I much prefer hollow ground razors . Which stones did you finish the razors on ?
Thanks Gary. It has a 12K Naniwa edge with a few passes on 0.5 micron CBN. I call that a control edge just to see how it performs. I’m thinking of putting a JNAT edge on tho.
Hey Dr Mat I really enjoy your videos. I’m new to the straight razor world and I’ve started a small collection of them. I’m up to about 14 most I have bought though gun shows and pawn shops my real question is do you or your company restore razors and if so how do we get in contact with you? Thank you Ed
Dr Matt thank you for your years of teaching on this hobby I really appreciate all your videos. I have a question I’m new to straight razor shaving I do have a GD 66 I use but want to buy something for around 100.00 for my next razor. In your opinion where is the best place I can go for a nice used straight blade for sale around that amount That is shave ready ?Blessings
Thank you! This one right here: www.knifecenter.com/item/J66/thiers-issard-1937-special-coiffeur-straight-razor-68-lhalf-hollow-carbon-steel-blade-white-plastic-handle They may be out of stock but will be back in soon and it's worth the wait.
@@drmatt357 Matt I had to order the black 5/8 version of this but it looks to be the same in quality as the one you sent was out of stock. My question is when I get the new razor should I strop it before the very first use or do you find these are shave ready from this particular distributor? Thanks again I can’t wait to get it. Blessings
@@nwpiper5782 - you should always strop a razor before using regardless who sharpened it. It has a factory edge on it so you have a 50/50 chance it works.
Do you offer any sort of one on one zoom video teaching for a price? Watched lots of these videos, and they are great, but I think some direct in person or zoom meeting teaching with ability to ask questions (and have them answered) would be ideal as I am still struggling
great shaving technique! Thanks for showing/teaching few of us :)
Nice shave Dr Matt, I'll look forward to catching your up and coming videos.
Nice blades. Have a great week.
Very best regards Gordon 👍👌👊
Love your videos.. great shave

Always good seeing you doc, hope you’ve been well. Congrats on 7k subs too!
Yes, thank you!
When your done finessing the Koraat keep me in mind. Been contemplating owning one for sometime.
Yes, get back to me in about a week Doug. It will be a good price too.
Nice to see you again! Those are some beautiful scales!
I'd be interested in the Koraat...
Always enjoy your videos!!
Good evening doc nice shave as always
Welcome back. Missed you.
Great vid Doc as always, love that expression “dick waving “ razors. Greetings from the Rock
Great video as always Matt, I love the Sprecher, I am definitely after one 😊
I agree, the regular straight edge is easier to control than those that are ground out.
Great video

been a while since your last video! Glad to see you back!
nice shave sir . wow that is a beast and that point looks pretty deadly . he does make some exquisite looking blades 👍
The tip was even pointier, I softened it a bit!😰
Love my 9/8 Sprecher, but I agree on the long tail comment. I’ve been trying to hunt down a Koraat Leonardo Da Vinci.

Awesome stuff, sir👍👍 Really unique looking straight razor as well
Thank you. Derek's brother?
Beautiful blade and scales.
Great Doc as always!!!
Thanks Brother!
You have to be swinging some giant balls to use that first razor. Looks like something out of Mad Max 🔪🔪🔪🔪
LOL! A bit awkward at first but you get used to it.
Hi Matt! Hope you are doing well…I own a Sprecher razor and I just love it! 🤩
You have some nice customs Vicente. Nice to hear from you.
Awesome razor good video!
got a 6/8 mauser all original mint and a macys 95 i will be parting out

Temperature will make no difference at all in sharpness
I usually run warm water on it but I’ll have to try the cold. Thanks for stopping by.

Hey DrMatt, could you give me some guidance for buying a strop? Price points, brands you'd recommend, etc.. Thank you in advance

A bit too big for me, and as you said the angle is weird. Looks like 10/8

Nice shave, Love my Sprecher!! Did you know he uses # 22 tape on his hones?? Thick stuff.
You mean on the spine of the razor? Never heard of 22. Is that a Scotch brand?
@@drmatt357 Yes, 4 times thicker than 88.
@@dougiesshavin1627 - hmm, that could explain why it was so much work to form the edge with only 2 layers of 88 I used.
did you change calibers? 357 to 1911?
Always been a 45 guy!😉 I still have the 357 account but it’s Hotmail and most of the emails were going to spam and was missing them.
Hey Doc where’d you get your Linen Strop that you use before your 3rd pass right before your Kanayama strop?
Scruppleworks Luke. toro-my@online.no that’s his email. At the time, they were $40.
Thank you sir. Wishing you and your family a Very Merry Christmas!!!!!!
Thanks Doc....my Karaat is coming up on a years use. It may need your touch. Will be in contact for details...Joe J
Anytime Joe. Glad you’re enjoying it.
How much for that Sprecher?
What problems had exactly?
The Sprecher is sold (I think I got $150 for it) but it had some uneven hone wear on one side of the spine from the previous owner.
Facebook is down! I'll watch your great video again, that Sprecher is mine ! email me Matt.
Cool
