My only complaint here is that I feel a % of these products should be going to LGS to support in person play as well as serve as prize support for "the gathering". The direct to consumer model WOTC has gone down is cutting out the very people who paid the overhead to get people to join the MTG Cardboard Cult. The digital barrier to entry here deprives less fortunate players who now have to pay extortion prices for product.
Silly take, your local library has free computers. Also if you're that excluded in modern America from a "digital barrier" standpoint, you have other things to worry about than expensive cardboard.
Dude i tried buying tickets to Sleep Token, a metal group that just recently blew up and the tickets in the ARTIST PRESALE sold out literally immediately. i was 15 mins early in the que(which was as soon as we got the presale code, some people didnt even get their code until after an hour of the launch) and i was 3500th in que and it was sold out before i even got a chance to look at prices... this being 6 hours of hang time is insanely long.
To some degree I agree with you. However, since secret lair products are normally on sale for weeks it was something I thought I could get later. I thought they printed to order not a limited printing. So, bad on me, but I doubt I am the only casual mtg player that ran into that thought. I had the chance, and didn't act on it same day. Now I don't have one. I also made an adult choice and am living with my adult consequence. Maybe the issue is not being able to live with adult choices. Or, like you said, it was not as much a priority. I don't agree that 6 hours is enough time for some people to get a chance though. If it had been on sale for 12 hours then that would have been enough time for almost everyone that really wanted one.
I so agree with you that, yes if you didn’t get one you didn’t try hard enough. Six hours is a lot of time. I’m so excited I got mine, it’s such a sweet deck and the art is amazing
Your claims are just claims because reality contradicts you and proves the facts: Popular sites offer dozens of items for $250-$300. The scalpers have been busy ordering! It's a bit cheeky what you say and I don't understand why you have to be that way.

I got one at the first hour. It was time and place. I agree with that “making it important” if you need it. And this is my first secret lair deck, as I wanted one for a long time just got into magic.
if i hadnt already built this deck for the wife I would have wanted to snag one, I like most of the art in the Secret Lair version, especially the sol ring
I think fear of missing out really shouldn’t be a selling point of a product. I would be lying if I said I didn’t buy this because I was worried about wanting it more later once the price is doubled or tripled.
I have been staying away from secret lair for the most part but I like the commander decks. I just didn't even know this was coming out. I would have set an alarm if I did but here we are. No point crying over spilt milk. 😂

Got in line @ 12pm est. Purchase completed in 10 minutes. Checked back twice between 2pm and 4pm to see how long it would be until sold out, no line, anyone that wanted one could get an immediate purchase. No reason to complain.
Just sticking up for the angel deck, it was actually great value, even better than this Cats and Dog secret lair. The main 5 borderless cards were solid picks, the deck list was pretty good right out of the box, had a brand new printed angel card for some strange reason, had amazing reprints like Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Emeria, the Sky Ruins, Urza's Incubator, Archangel of Tithes, and the Sigarda's Aid secret/extra card was a nice surprise too.
I was watching another channel talking about how people keep calling MKM "Markov Manor" and then somebody in the comments came up with "Mur__red by Markdowns Manor" and I got a chuckle out of that
I felt like it was super easy to get. I could’ve gotten more than 1 but just went with the one deck. Price was fair for what it was. Sold the basics and yoshirmaru, kept the rest and ended up costing $0 :)
The hour long wait time in a queue for it was the problem. I was early and there for when it dropped. Couldn’t get it so ended up having to go into work. Their website sucks ass. Luckily I still got one when I got on break as I added it to my basket and it hadn’t sold out. Having to get their early for the drop then wait an extra hour because their website can’t handle it is horse shit
I'm annoyed that they are only a limited run. Stuck seeing every mtg influencer have one and no way to get it. Also only saw any marketing or knowledge about it a day or two before it on the weekend. Had no time to make it a priority. Just too many products to try and pay attention to them all if you don't have more invested in the hobby like you or other influencers. Just makes proxying look more and more appealing.
I often find the people who fomo the most are often also the same people who complain about WotC pushing out too much product. They forget that they dont have to purchase everyhing wotc prints
That Sol Ring was amazing and I love the basics! If people were mad about this selling out in six hours they need to try buying shoes when they drop new sneakers like new Jordans. I remember watching a video from a guy using a bot just to get a pair for himself because it was the only way to compete with all the other bots lol.
The true toxic mindset is ALL of the players who continue to support Wizards FOMO sales tactics. They will have you believe that because people weren’t getting their cards fast enough is why they switched back but the truth is when they were doing print to order they sold considerably less product on secret lair. Take the time to look at the secret lair sales numbers between these periods and it’s plain to see.
That's not fully true. The current secret lair drop is limited print and is selling terribly. Why? It's a horrible drop. Good releases sell fast, bad releases sell slow. Dogs and cats was clearly a good release and we knew it was before it even went on sale. Is the issue that people cannot evaluate what is a good drop and what isn't until they see secondary market pricing?
They made me rade with the secret lair 30th anniversary and I swore i would never buy one again. I was first in line, and I got nothing; Amazing feels hasbro. Love how they make a clue set to promote their board game division, such a money grab, over n over n over
The 30th anniversary proxies, 9 packs for $999 is contempt for the Magic community. Anything less than that should register annoyance and disappointment, rather than actual anger.
Respectfully, dismissing the valid concern that a limited print run that can only be purchased online which is documentably susceptable to scalpers utilizing script bots that purchase large quantities of said limited product and inflate scarcity so they can attempt to resell the product at an unreasonable price is itself toxic.

I didn't purchase one, nor did I want one, but I have heard about plenty that were either working or sleeping or with family etc. 6 hours is not THAT much time. There were also plenty that didn't find out about it right away. Maybe they don't have alerts from the site, or whatever the case may be, but they weren't aware. It can take a little time for new product info to spread. And it seems those that are giving your opinion are the ones that got the deck or have no interest in it. Again, I don't have any stake in it, but I do think you are over simplifying it and being dismissive. And saying "just build it with normal cards, no one needs it" when the obvious appeal is the special art, is a bit disingenuous. With that said, I completely agree that these things SHOULD be collectible. I'll actually likely buy more secret lairs now that they're a little more limited. But I think this one took many by surprise. Dog/cat products have a massive following. And there are plenty of people out there confirming they purchased many of these decks in order to scalp, reducing that available time. Just plz remember not everyone is as plugged in as much into new products, secret lairs especially, and 6 hours is nothing compared to previous secret lair time frames. Even this current one is a month, with a lot more apparent stock.

Furthermore, I'm addressing your overly simplified perspective of "you're just toxic, I'm right, end of conversation" as being toxic, not the product itself. That's a overly simplistic perspective of a widely complicated economic ecosystem, and something as simple as the difference of "Print to Demand" and "Limited Print" have butterfly effects on the entirety of that market that are more complicated than you or I can properly communicate in comment posts. For clarity, I don't believe you're comment was inappropriate because you are not bothered that this was a limited run, nor do I think that this specific product being limited is an overall bad thing. What I'm taking issue with is that you're calling people with legitimate concerns as just toxic and dismissing what they say without addressing any particular perspective. If you give it to everyone, it's likelihood of being collectible drops.. the more you sell, the more it drops. We can't want everything printed into the ground AND expect things to remain collectible. The math doesn't work. Whatever someone is willing to pay for an item is the price of anything. Yes, people put it up for more money trying to make a profit. It'll go one of 2 ways. People will pay that price because they value it at that price or it doesn't sell at all which would lead the seller to hold the product or drop the price. That's a healthy economy.
I'm not mad at it selling out. I'm vastly disappointed at the price.

I really like these SL decks as a decent product to hold sealed as someone with limited storage space, they have a good value/size.

I think he is referring to the Advent Calendar one, which was an excellent release and sold out quick... but not that quick.

It's not. You didn't need to buy this to build this deck. You don't need to build a deck with the flashiest treatments. No one NEEDS this.
