      @robinwong which one to get between EP5 or EPL7, i’ll use it mostly for my family documentary, maybe only will invest for two lenses zuiko 17mm f2.8 and zuiko 14-42mm EZ.
      EPL7 had newer sensor but only 3 axis IBIS, and EP5 had 5 axis IBIS but older sensor.
      Right now i use Canon M50 with kit lens and an adapter to EF 50mm 1.8 II, but i’m kinda not confidence to use it in public due to it size, i thought migrate to olympus mft will made more confident taking picture in public space with it compact size which less intimidating.
      You have any advice or recomendation to consider as you were one of the creator i’ve seen so relate to olympus mft system.

    Before anyone says "wow Robin why you hold the camera with one hand?", obviously I was holding another camera on another hand to film the LCD screen to show you how I composed my shots. If I were not doing a video, I'd use both hands to hold a camera. It is NOT easy making a video, OK? But thankfully the PEN camera was small and light enough to do so, without breaking my wrist.

    Nice guide as always. Finally Robin competes with Red35 fashion shoots!
    Also I noticed you are using F10, is this due to no eye af so guaranteeing sharpness across the model, or just to handle the bright studio strobes, as you were limited to only -3 EV? At F10 the pictures were so sharp.. where is the lens deffraction we were all warned about with the small sensor size and all lens being deffraction limited?

    Robin, I have been a long time admirer of you as you always tell the good and the bad of all the equipment you use. I just purchased an E PL7 on Ebay for $138 and it only had 4,421 shutter count. It is white and I prefer black but for that price I couldn't pass it up. I already had the 14-42 EZ in silver and with that on the camera, it really looks great. This is my every day carry camera. Keep up the good work.

    Proof that old, budget gear can still produce great results. But at least 50% of the success of the photos are thanks to the lighting setup. Any tips on how to light an indoor photoshoot? I saw some studio lights and an on camera flash to trigger the set-up. What else did you use?

    • @robinwong

    Hi Robin. I have an epl7 with the kit lens and I haven't used it as much as I expected I would because the pictures and the colours do not turn out as best as my dslr does. Its a shame cs I really want to utilise it since dslr is a bit too heavy to carry around. Can I know, do lenses affect the picture colours? I feel like with the kit lens, the pictures tend to be a bit muted and too warm to my liking (not sure if its just my eye). Any tips? I don't mind spending a bit more on a lens if it means I can get better quality! (ps: I would want to use the camera for travelling)

    • @robinwong

      When you shoot at F10, 1/250 ISO200 (as shown in video), the background is dark without illumination from flash.

    Funny part is, that EPL-7 is way more capable than what early FF cameras like EOS 5D mk1 were.. and those were used for the most demanding shoots for ages including weddings, events, portraits etc :)
    Aperture F10 is interesting in such scenario. Yes there is no texture in background to blurr, but lens is running into difraction a bit. Or is it used to be sure that whole girl is inside depth of field? :)

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  7 місяців тому +3

      Yes I want everything in focus. The model did move a lot, and I don't want to stop her from doing that, so I compensate with more depth of field. Diffraction isn't an issue, if you have seen the magnified images, still plenty sharp, and only 16MP

    Hi Robin, how coincidental, I purchased an EPL7 a few days ago to add to my collection of MFT cameras and it arrived in the post this morning just before your vid popped up in my inbox. I had purchased it with the 14-42 EZ kit lens. I couldn’t believe my luck as it was in mint condition with only 314 shutter activations. It cost me £200 a bargain. In truth I had only bought it for the lens but as it’s mint I may well keep it, but here is my dilemma should I sell the EPL7 or my EPL8 ?

    Robin, you are singularly the person that motivated me to start my photography hobby last year and I thank you once again for introducing me to such a rewarding artistic endeavor! I started with an E-M1 Mark 3, but vidoes like these actually motivated me to 'downgrade' to an E-M1 Mark I for $150 recently. Olympus sure was generous with firmware updates back in the day and this camera does everything I need! Not only did it bring back a thousand dollars to my bank account, but I shoot even more now that my camera is more compact and more ergonomic for my smaller hands. I’d never think to use such a narrow aperture! Is that customary for studio portraits? And why is the exposure compensation so low and blinking? Doesn’t that mean it’s not happy with your manual settings? There’s a lot I have to learn!

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  7 місяців тому +1

      It was on full manual. There was no exposure compensation. It was an indicator that the image will be underexposed, nothing more. But then there was flash, which the camera cannot read externally. Hence, the image was not underexposed.

    I consider the 12-32 Lumix to be a little gem; best kit lens I've ever had. It remains my main lens with an even more dinosaur camera, the original EM5. Can be had for $130-40; but the price seems to be going up.

Also does dual IS with Panasonic bodies. It came with the GX9. The only time I take this lens off this body is for the PL15 lens. A killer street photography combination.
