Thanks for watching as I try out something new on my channel! I am passionate about vegan living and nutrition, so I hope you enjoy this long form video from me. Let me know if you want to see more like this. Thanks!!!
I absolutely love the podcast. I have been plant based for more than 25 years... I love what you said about a potential goal when you turn 95. I turned 76 in November and my desire is to live a long healthy. I don't take any medication and my daughter and granddaughter are not vegan able to knock. They keep telling me they are not ready. I did share your podcast with my granddaughter. However, thank you for what you do. I do have your cookbook and will explore more into your blog and see if I can get my granddaughter to cook a dish with me again. Thank you!
It's worth mentioning that a lot of people are B12 deficient (~20-30% of people) and especially Vit D (most people living away from the equator, even more so if they have darker skin tones). Being vegan or not doesn't make much of a difference, these have to be supplemented for most people. P.S. B12 is not generated by animals, but by bacteria in a cobalt-rich soil, which is not the case for most land nowadays. Farmers supplement it in their livestock, so skip the middle step and take a tiny, cheap supplement.
Just a clarification because many don't know: veganism isn't a diet, plant-based is. Vegans eat a plant-based diet, however, *very important* there's no such thing as 1 plant-based or vegan diet. Not eating animal products is a non-action, it's not a diet. The spectrum is all the way from a junk food plant-based person to whole foods plant-based (WFPB, healthiest for humans). Veganism is an ethical stance against animal abuse and exploitation, not a diet. If your health matters to you, a WFPB diet is optimal.
@@thebowandbullet True, but it is also counter-productive overall to villify those that use the term vegan diet. They are likely on the train to ethical veganism.
I have followed you and your website and UA-cam clips for a long time. This clip was great! You look amazing! Eating healthy makes all the difference! I've been on an organic vegan diet since about 2015. I never ever have a health problem. I have no oil whatsoever in my diet. Dr Caldwell Esselstyn: "No oil!" A vegan diet never gets boring, contrary to what some people think. I eat a ton of vegetables, with fruits and whole grains and beans and seeds. Love this diet! Keep up the great work!
I’ve been a vegan 54 years. We had few shops of use to us and had to form our own foods. My go to shops always Indian they had the foods I could eat. Im used to it. I prefer my own foods but am glad I get more GF flours I need, I eat tons of beans, grains, fruit + veg. My blood tests perfect last month again except I struggle with getting enough salt.
I thank you for this! Simnett Nutrition is a good one for guys who think they can't get protein as a vegan for bodybuilding. I love your channel best, cuz I love sweet potatoes and lentils! And you're gorgeous, so it's nice to see you teaching words of wisdom. My grand-niece got in trouble at school around halloween for saying, "I'm not supposed to eat this, cuz my mama says I shouldn't eat poo."
Welcome back. Whenever the protein question comes up in regard to veganism I always ask people what animals are the most muscular on earth? After people think about it the answers come. Elephant - vegan! Rhinoceros - vegan! Hippopotamus - vegan! Gorilla - vegan Blue Whale - vegan! Brahman Bull - vegan! It seems obvious that if all of these huge muscular animals can build all of that size and muscle eating plants that there is no problem with not getting enough protein from plants.
Am totally with you on processed vegan food. I'm a vegan, so why would I want to eat meat replacements? I don't like meat and I am attached to the principles of protecting animals from factory farming and death. People are delusional about animals being treated well. Any animal which has that experience is a micro number in the scheme of the billions of animals which die regardless. I didn't like processed food when I was a vegetarian since age 12. I am not interested in meat for any reason. I'm in Australia and the problems you're discussing Jenne are similar health wise. We don't have quite the same range of frozen vegetables and handy foods which you have in the States where we don't have the numbers here to sustain a lot of vegan products including processed ones. I've never had an Oreo and I don't want to eat them. I'd rather eat home-made better quality food every time.
Hi, I'm not vegan or intend to be. I love your channel, and it's very helpful and improved my diet. I need more vegan days or at least vegan meals. The spectrum can be vegan to non vegan and improve everybody diet. I will check your new book
Gooood to see you again. "Sweet Potato Soul"! I purchased your very first cookbook. I'm guilty 😔, still not vegan. But I love you and the content. Easy my way over 😌. Awwh, it's so hard for me. But I want to make an effort. Truly...and Yesssss Darlin' plant base becomes you. You look 👀 😍 28 still. You're such a sweetheart 💕.
Hey, Pam. Just curious, what's holding you back? I remember thinking it would be soooo difficult going vegan, and I was vegetarian for 6 years first. Let me know if I can help. 😊
@thebowandbullet Ooooooh, wooow, thanks sooo much. I really need to focus on putting together the right meals as I do have Sweet Potato Souls cook book. To be more transparent, my blood type is 'O'. I crave meat as an 'O'. My metabolism is extremely high naturally, and I'm very petite. I wake up a size smaller!🤣🤣. My appetite has always been huge, and I really need at least 25 proportioned lbs. When I first attempted to even move toward it, I ate a lot of soy, only to discover that soy as an 'O' is a no no. I do it all, vitamins and exercise, but nothing fills me like meat. I'll continue to make some efforts. I apologize for sharing all this on a public platform. But you were so kind to ask. I hope that sharing a little, it gave you a little more clarity. Thanks for caring. 🥰.
Make sure you're getting enough calories. If you're a " volume eater" you can get calories aplenty ( "Broccoli Mum" is where I heard that expression,).
Nice video full of informative information. I appreciate researched based content especially when I’m making informed decisions about my health. Question: what are the health concerns around consuming grains? Just curious. ☀️🙂
I'm a former vegan ..I quit being vegan for...reasons I don't care to divulge here because they basically just sound like excuses...but I'm finding myself wanting to try being vegan again. I will say though that I was vegan during the whole high carb and extreme raw vegan craze....
I do have 2 requests as I struggle with these. I do a mix of chickpea flour + cornflour, stir in a lot of veg + spices or herbs, cook on stove + need swipe of OIL + id like to ditch oil. The other thing is I’ve now got a waffle maker, I’d like to use many veg + ditch oil for that too. Any ideas?
Been vegan for years and bought your first book. I love it. Easy recipes. I make your collards and lentil soup regularly. So tasty! Gonna check out your new book✨ thank you✨✨
Did you get a blood test, or is this just a 'feeling'? If you're not feeling well, it could be all kinds of things. Being plant-based really improves health and immunity, but nothing will make you superhuman. You might be sick, or tired, or just need to look into something.
Energy levels are affected when i went vegan but im glad i did it for those months because i became way less reliant on meat and processed food. I prefer Whole Foods and mainly cook. I prefer plant based. Because you can be vegan and eat nothing but junk. Plant based milk with no oil makes no sense to me. Can’t tell me that’s any healthier
Also would like to know about to much salt. A lot of my family tell me vegan foods have a lot of salt. So how can I eat foods better for my heart and kidney health?
Given soil erosion and the degradation of the plants grown, it’s difficult to derive elements needed for optimum health from the food supply. How beneficial supplements are depends on brands you trust to provide superior products. All brands are not created equally. Processed foods are the enemy. That includes vegan options. Whatever you eat, make your own so you know what goes into it. It’s not that difficult to figure out. Pay attention to your body. It talks to you.
Whole natural plant foods, preferably organic, are only going to improve your health. There is seriously some kind of conspiracy lately to get people to eat meat. People are not natural carnivores. Natural carnivores hunt their prey, they have the instinct for it, and eat it raw, bones and all. They have a totally different digestive system. If you eat all the highly processed fake "meats" and other processed foods, which they are probably doing, you won't be healthy. The healthiest people in the world are vegan. If you eat a meat diet you will probably lose weight and feel better for a while. It isn't sustainable. Eating animal foods causes all kinds of degenerative disease.
big meat is hundreds of times wealthier than big brocolli..hence influence and clicks. WFPB really is key to health and longevity, just still less than 2% of the market.
They are clout chasers that jump from trend to trend. Every time someone says it was destroying their health, they were undereating, eating weird foods or monofoods. If you eat enough, you'll be fine.
Check out the books china study and starch solution if you want some evidenxe based research from Doctors about plant based diet. Check out forks over knives ans games changers if you want info in a documentary form
How is your blood sugar? Have you tried a CGM (continuous glucose meter) or an inexpensive blood glucose meter from Walmart, that gives a single reading? Have you checked your inflammation markers with your doctor? You need Objective tests: Blood glucose, iron, inflammation, vitamin D, etc. Find out for sure with tests.

I've heard you're not supposed to wash your skin 24 hours after sunbathing as that ruins vitamin D absorption
That makes no sense. The sun doesn't sit on your skin to absorb. The vitamin D conversion is pretty instant.
