  • Demonstration of restored Hohner Organette. Final restoration work by www.jollyroger...
    Diatonic reed pipe.
Restoration credits go to a long list of people:
NCB who bought it as a wreck and has paid for the project.
Theo Gibb (the Box Place) for initial advice and spec for the reeds
Lathco in Sheffield for replating the keys and external hardware.
    Harmonikas for the custom reeds.
Modelling Timbers in the Isle of Mann for the tiny nuts and bolts.
Mike T who made the new ash reed blocks.

Imagine how this would sound attached to the body of a saxophone. Does anyone know if an instrument like that exists?

I can't decide whether this thing I have blows or sucks.

It's actually suspicious how many revolutionary instruments Hohner has made over the years ONLY to discontinue them and thus declare their copyright, in turn actually restricting the market of these ideas. Personally I find it disgusting to be honest, because practically every single one of these instruments are all exactly what I have been looking for to remedy my own musical needs, as a former pianist. The Claviola in particular.

Not sure I entirely follow your reasoning vis-à-vis copyright. Accordion manufacturers come up with all sorts of mechanisms to operate the couplers (for instance). I don’t think any of them are copyrighted. Otherwise the accordion is pretty much the same inside, across all makes, except build quality.

@@triggerfish999 they're not copyrighted, but were patented. the claviola at least, as far as i've heard. though at this point in time, the patent surely must have expired!?

I just got one and it too is a wreck. What do you think it could cost to restore. I know it would depend how wrecked it is, but could you give me some idea? -Bob Forrester Philadelphia, Pennsylvania P.S. Thanks for posting that video

Robert Forrester it's hard to say. My contribution came at the end of a long list of other specialists. I'm guessing the owner must have spent ...what...£1500? Or perhaps quite a bit more.
