      Thanks FTStratLP,
      yes, I think they do a great job of linking up the yellow of the tank to the matt black of the motor on a yellow Fireball.
      It’s also reassuring to know that my knees are no longer marking or wearing away at the paint, which may not be the thickest paint ever (?)
      They gave me peace of mind and also improved Buddy’s aesthetics. They should come like this from the factory IMO, like the Classic 350 does !
      Cheers and thanks for watching 👍

    Brilliant addition to your bike. In my case I would probably have to put them over part of the "Royal Enfield" badge due to my unfeasibly long legs.
    If I was fitting them it would take my 3 hours of careful measurement followed by a lifetime of agonising that they were not perfectly symmetrical....

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  2 роки тому +1

      I know. Trust me, fitting them was stressful. I was so careful and somehow still managed to mount them asymmetrically. I think without some sort of factory template it will be incredibly hard to get them 100% right. But it's ok, the bike is for riding not looking at. At least the paint is now protected when I wear those scratchy MC trousers and if I ever get too OCD about it, I can take a hairdryer to them, peel them off and ( allegedly ) use WD-40 to remove the residual glue and could start all over again if I wanted to. But life's too short. I prefer to ride !
      Thanks for watching CC. Yes, judging by what you've told me, the Meteor is just too small for you, unfortunately 😥

      Somehow UA-cam decided to delete your original comment and I was unable to reply. Glad you came back and had another go 👍 Ruby manages to walk into the shot in every video I make outside anyway, so I decided to include her officially this time. Compliments like yours go straight to her head though, she’s already telling me that she’s about to go viral and put Olive and Mabel to shame 😂
      Thank you so much for taking the time to comment ( at least twice ), I really appreciate it. It’s great to know that there are people out there who really appreciate and enjoy my content. That’s always what motivates me to continue !
      Big changes to the channel coming soon, just in time for the winter when it will be harder to get out and film 🤔
      Oh well, the channel should take a big step forward in 2022 at least !
      Thanks for watching and commenting. Ruby will be a regular feature in my future non-riding videos because she always gets excited when I fetch the Meteor from the garage. She is a biker pup deep down as well as a bit of a diva 😉

      @@economicalrides Ah thank you! :-) That is a brilliant reply, many thanks! I did wonder what happened earlier, I commented twice & both times it vanished! @@stevehoward1679 Yep, UA-cam ruthlessly deletes all comments with links unless they are from me. I don’t even get the opportunity to redact and then approve them unfortunately. I just receive a notification of your post and when I go to reply your comment is already gone. It’s so annoying that I even did a short video about it on my channel ! Funnily enough, channel sponsor 😉 RE-Rider asked me today if I’d seen the tank stripe Hitchcock’s sell. Well yes, I discovered it a few weeks ago whilst browsing. I’ve decided not to get one because I think it suits a sportier bike like the Continental better. I think it might “confuse” the Meteor’s cruiser styling somewhat. It does look great on the yellow tank but I’m preferring to keep my Meteor more cruiser than cafe racer.
      Of course if anybody fits one and sends me the pictures it will appear in Other Bod’s Mods at some point in the future.
      To be honest I’m exhausted from fitting the tank pads yesterday and the standard seat today ( for a future seat comparison video ), so I’m not up for modding anything else anytime soon 😉

      Thanks ER ! To be honest, if RE-Rider hadn't kindly donated them, I would probably ( knowing me ) never have got around to ordering some, even though I clearly wanted some tank protectors. I'm just a bit lazy when it comes to modifying bikes. I think I did enough mods on my Bullet to last me a lifetime. Now I'm just happy to have something to ride which just works ! Hence why I focus on Other Bods' Mods. I am unlikely to be the mega-modder so I'm happy to showcase other people's mods and bikes on the channel.
      But RE-Rider's kind donation was enough to make me get on with the job and now I am really glad that I did.

      Probably a good decision Ian. I’m in southern Spain but I’ll still struggle to get out much throughout the winter. Up here in the mountains we get weeks of gale force winds 24/7 but I still intend to get out and record whenever I get the opportunity, it just won’t be quite as often.
      If it’s wet or windy ( or both ) or icy then I won’t be going anywhere on the Meteor, that’s for sure !
      It might be more frustrating to have your bike but not the weather to ride it, than to have to wait for your bike to arrive to be honest.
      Here’s hoping for some decent weather when you do get it and you can then get that 300 mile service out of the way in the first week or two !

    Nice one ER, RE to the rescue then, could be the beginning of a Monty Python policeman sketch! ( God, that shows my age! ) The condition of the Fireball is a disgrace though, suppose it's the bleaching affect of unbearable daily sun? lol.
    Got some mighty pics available soon, didn't like the RE standard pannier brackets, sort of stuck out in the slipstream and hard to swing leg over so brought them in millimetres away from important bits, cool! Also, they don't sell a left side one so converted a right side one and bingo, 8 bottles of Cava now possible! So long as you remember, downside is top opens rearwards though so make sure properly locked before launching!

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  2 роки тому

      Haha, brilliant ! I need pics of this Cava transport !
      Yes, I thought it very strange that RE only offer a one sided pannier, it would be nice to have the choice of just one or both. Crazy that they don’t offer a LHS and RHS in their catalogue. That would give people the choice of left, right or both. I think they are missing a trick there.
      Your mods sound cool but having the boxes open different ways is a bit of a shame.
      Send me pics and I’ll cover them in a future Other Bod’s Mods along with your rear rack of course 👍

    Hello again. Thoughts on the little windscreen you have on your Meteor. Does it do much of anything other than look smart? I just saw a video of a motorcycle show in the UK and they have one in Fireball yellow with the same smoked-out windscreen as you have, plus the backrest. It looks proper! The small screen does give it a more cafe racer look. Would you ever consider getting the taller windscreen? So now I am back and forth between the Fireball yellow and the Stellar black. I think the yellow looks sharper, the black a little more understated.

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Matt,
      the small screen is definitely mainly for the looks. It does however have one other advantage over no screen at all and that is that it stops kamikaze insects killing themselves all over the cables and back of the clocks. When that happens, it's really difficult to get in there and get everything clean again. With the fly screen, they all end up on the screen and that is dead easy to wash off. I bought it purely for the looks because I saw a Fireball with one in the launch photos and thought it looked sportier than the one without the screen.
      Yes, the backrest is available as an accessory to everyone, you could easily fit the backrest to a Fireball and end up with a "Stellball" if you wanted to. You could easily do that at a later point in time. Since I never carry a pillion I won't bother getting a backrest for mine.
      Other viewers of the channel have confirmed that the tall screen fitted to the Supernovas does offer very good protection against the elements. It is very easy to fit and remove. Very easy. So I would consider fitting one should I ever do a long road trip, it would probably make long days more comfortable. Then I would remove it and refit the fly screen once I got home. I wouldn't want to fit one permanently because I think my bike looks just about perfect to me as it is.
      Go with the yellow and fit a backrest if you like !
      Honestly, I knew I needed to buy a Fireball and was instantly drawn to the yellow one when I saw the launch photos of the yellow and red Fireballs.
      As the launch got closer and closer, I kept changing my mind. I thought the yellow one might be just a bit TOO yellow for my tastes. So I went backwards and forwards between yellow and red and when it came time to buy one I said to myself "Come on, go with your instincts, be brave. Get the yellow one !". I did and I am so glad that I did. The yellow is such a nice colour, nicely visible in traffic ( a survey in the 70s said that yellow was the safest colour for a road vehicle ! ) and contrasts so well with the black of the engine and exhaust.
      A yellow Fireball definitely draws people over to look at your bike and start asking you questions. I'm pretty shy really but if somebody is into bikes I actually quite enjoy chatting to them for a while.
      Go with the yellow. Unless red is your thing. It's a matter of personal taste of course but in the metal a yellow Fireball is quite a beautiful thing !
      Long answer, sorry. Hope this helps. Let me know how you decide, I am just interested, will not judge you either way 🤣
      Cheers Matt 👍

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  2 роки тому

      Actually just over a week ago it got caught in a desert rain storm and ended up being covered in yellow sand and dirty water stains. It got into every crack and crevice. At the time I was convinced that the bike would never be truly clean again because there was so much dirt in the motor casings and amongst the ancillaries.
      Somehow a garden hose with a pistol on the end did a really good job of driving the dirt out. Once I’d dried everything off, the bike looked as good as new again. That black crackled finish on the engine seems to clean up very well, fortunately.
      So don’t despair. They come up well if you use plenty of water. Oh and we may not currently have much mud but I constantly have to ride through goats’ excrement on my way to the next major road. I always ride through it as slowly as possible but the front tyre always manages to fling some onto the front of the engine !
      Thanks for watching and complimenting Simon, I do like to keep my vehicles clean 🙂

      Thanks William. I shared your fears but once I held them up against the tank I thought they looked smart, gave the bike a more vintage look and of course will stop my trousers scratching the paint any further.
      They are not expensive AND they mean that you can really grab the tank with your knees without having to worry about the paintwork.
      I’m very glad I got them now !
      Take care William.
      Cheers 👍

    A good upgrade and well worth it, however, I'd be just as concerned about the trousers. The knee protectors need to be over the part of the knee that will hit the road first and that's not the inner knee! They should sit towards the outside of the knee. It took me ages to find a pair that had them in the right place. I know from a friends experience that when they skew round like that they offer no protection at all. My Oxford jeans were OK when walking but skewed inwards when on the bike. Oxford offered me a full refund. Food for thought?

      Hi Nick, glad it’s not just me with the trouser trouble 😂 Initially I thought maybe I was deformed in some way but I think it’s safe to say that the right leg of the trousers is askew. Actually, when on the bike I can swivel the trouser leg into the proper position and it stays there. It only goes askew when I start walking about. So on that basis I’m happy to live with them. Add to that the fact that for most of the year I am able to ride in armoured jeans and that the internal CE knee protector is in the right place, so I’m not too bothered. It’s not ideal but I don’t think its a major problem, since I’m unlikely to be dragging my knee through corners with the Meteor 😂
      Thanks for watching and commenting and reassuring me that my body is not deformed, just the trousers are 😛
      Stay safe Nick ! Cheers 👍

      Hi Aayush,
      sorry, I don't actually know which ones he bought, only that he bought them from Hitchcock's in the UK, I believe.
      You can see his bike in this video, with the new protectors fitted, from 13:35 onwards.
      ua-cam.com/video/X59IWUdpZJw/v-deo.html
      Let me know if you would like the same tank protectors as in the video and if you would, I will try to find out and get back to you !
      I'm sure I can find out which ones they are if you are still interested, so take a look at the video from 13:32 and if you want the same ones, just let me know-
      Cheers Aayush,

      these are the pads he fitted, he just cut them to size.

      As you can see in my video featuring his bike, he has removed the Supernova tank badges and replaced them with Interceptor ones. It's possible that the Supernova tank badges are much longer and you may struggle to fit these in the same way as he was able to.
      Anyway, those are the ones he bought !

    Not too bad, my bigger problem actually is my Jacket zipper scratching the tank down in the middle.

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  2 роки тому

      All of my jackets have velcro flaps to shut over the zips, so not a problem for me. Definitely avoid jackets with exposed zips for this very reason !

    Hallo ER, die Tankprotektoren passen richtig gut zur Fireball.
    Solltest du sie mal abmachen wollen dann nimm für die Klebereste lieber keinen Alkohol oder Spiritus, das ist für den Lack nicht gut.
    Mit WD40 lassen sich Klebereste lackschonend und schnell entfernen.

      @@alexandergemmell664 Well the weather here is no longer what it used to be Alexander. Fifteen years ago when I came out here the winter was maybe six weeks long. Now it is about six to eight months !
      When it's nice here it is nice but the summer is getting shorter every year.
      Probably worth checking the climate ( average annual temps etc ) of the other countries you are looking at and the trend over the past few years !
      Also consider the state and extent of bureaucracy and quality of available healthcare ( and how you plan to pay for it ) in each country.
      Then pick the country which does best in those three regards I reckon. Also consider which country suits you better culturally and in terms of language.
      I hope this helps.

      @@sanchitsharma4745 Hi Sanchit. Currently not possible because the ECU is limiting the top speed to 120kph electronically ( I made a video about this ). I think the Meteor would JUST ABOUT hit 140kph without the limiter but until somebody comes up with a way of tricking or disabling the limiter, 120kph is all we’ll see I’m afraid. But rest assured, if there is a way to get around the limiter I will mention it on my channel because it would be of interest to many people !
