Yes. Unfortunately I seem to have two bikes which don't lend themselves to the chest mount. On the Meteor you sit very low and "in" the bike. On the Himmy, you will always be looking through the screen. The reason for the experimentation is that in Spain you can get fined €200 and get points on your license for having a camera mounted to your helmet. The theory being that your helmet wasn't homologated or tested with a camera on it and that the camera may actually be rendering the helmet unsafe. It's all BS of course but if you meet the right copper on the wrong day, they could do you for it. So I think it will have to be chest mounted or bike mounted from here on in 🤷‍♂
I shall continue to experiment 🙂
I need to decide what I'm doing before my new helmet arrives. If I can avoid putting a GoPro mount on it, then obviously that's what I'd prefer to do.
      Cheers you two,
      us two ❤🐕

Ah I didn’t know the helmet cam rules 😮
The view really isn’t that bad. I quite like being able to see the bike, in my opinion it’s better than the camera angle being too high, something I have done myself many times without realising until I’m home.

The camera position took me back to my childhood.... When i was too little to see over the dashboard of the car! 😂 I think its unseasonably windy here as well, sort of ok when the sun's shining but a really keen bite to it when the cloud comes over. 24e for a battery? Thats keen! I know it was little but even so.... 👍 All the best to you and Ruby 🙂

      Hi Ken,
yep, I was happy enough with 24 EUR for a battery from a decent brand at the time, although I have since found the receipt for the dead one ( which I bought just after I got the scoot ) and it was a mete 16 EUR !!!!
So now 24 EUR seems expensive 😂
      Inflation eh ?
Yes, the camera angle wasn’t the best but once it’s filmed there’s not a lot you can do about it, unfortunately. I shall continue to conduct experiments because I do prefer a chest mounted camera. Unfortunately on both the Meteor and the Himalayan, the screen is always in the way. It’s a bit of a problem !
Cheers Ken. Hugs to the girls 🐕

I was delighted to find the exact right battery at the first attempt. Out here in the sticks, shops tend not to hold much stock and I did expect that they would have to order one and I'd have to go back another day to collect it. But no, everything went perfectly, I was able to fit it the same day AND I even managed to get a little video out of it.

      Hi Peter,
yes, I much prefer having the camera on my chest, just need to figure out a way of getting a decent angle on it ! On the Meteor the view is rubbish because you sit so low in the bike and on the Himalayan it's rubbish because you have that big screen in the way. I shall continue to experiment !
It's about a 30 minute ride to the next town that has a car parts place but at least it's a nice enough ride on Buddy. I wasn't expecting them to have a battery of the right size but fortunately they did. The ride there is a steady 80 kph cruise, and Buddy just feels so good at that speed.
Good old Mrs A, it was very kind of her to chip in to the sossidge fund !

      Hi Kevin,
weird timing. I just stumbled across your picture of Rocky again ( was checking out the progress on my Other Bods' Dogs candidate pile ) and your comment flew in. Rocky must have wanted us to get back in touch I reckon !
Yes. When you put it like that, I am quite fortunate.
When the weather plays ball and you can take a bike instead of the car, then yes, these little chores can be turned into a bit of a jolly. Definitely an upside of living in Spain although nice riding days have been pretty rare here too in the past year or so !
I was chuffed to get exactly the right battery, it was identical in size and orientation, without them having to order one and me having to go back the next day. It was a real stroke of luck that they had one in stock. I did imagine that they would have to look at the old battery, check in their catalogue and then order one, which I would have had to have gone back to collect a day or two later.
Good old Buddy must have brought some good luck along with him !
Thanks Kevin, you made me chuckle !

      Hi Blake,
yes, I think we are sort of aligned with California, Nevada and Arizona in terms of climate and geology.
Different parts of Andalusia are reminiscent of parts of all of those states.
I was surprised that an Exide battery was only 24 EUR. That's a decent quality battery, not some no-name, designed to last a year, battery. It has a three year guarantee but since I keep it plugged into a maintenance charger, I fully expect it to last at least ten years now. So 24 EUR amortised over 10 years is just about acceptable to my tight wallet 😂
Take care Buddy. Somehow I have been too busy for my pipes for a couple of weeks now. I really need to get back into some pipe time !

Oh and you were right about the lower subframe on the 350s by the way, just didn't catch it in the live chat, only saw it later.
I still think that they can improve the 450 vibes by looking at how the engine interacts with the frame. Obviously an engine redesign is not on the cards at this point. So if RE wants to get the vibes down to similar levels of their competitors, I think the engine mounts are the area they need to be working on. And I think they should do it before they bring out any further 450 models !

      Hi Mark,
yes, a couple of fellow weirdos enjoyed that camera angle 😂 I'm not sold on it myself, would like to see a bit less of the tank and more of the sky. I shall continue to experiment although the weather is rubbish at the moment and I can't get out at all ( constant thunderstorms with hail ).
But when I can get out, I want to experiment some more with the chest mounted view on both bikes.
In Spain they are talking about fining motorcyclists with cameras on their helmets because mounting the camera may affect the integrity of the helmet ! 🤷‍♂$$$
So with a chest mount ( or mounted to the bike if all else fails ) I would be on the safe side.
Cheers Mark, glad you enjoyed it !

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides  4 місяці тому

Hi Stefan. No. In my Malaguti review video I did show how many bottles of beer he could comfortably hold and currently I have no beer emergency. Also, the best supermarket for beer is about 50 minutes from my home, so if I am going to do it, I am more likely to do it with Buddy or Norman.
Malcolm is more or less limited to fairly local rides and errands, for which he is excellent. He doesn't get a lot of use but he is still useful to have. Sometimes I will ride him in the summer, just for kicks and without heavy biking gear. When it's 40C I can justify riding a 50cc in shorts and a t-shirt and get my kicks that way. Those are the times when it would be too hot for full biking gear and a ride on Buddy or Norman.
