nothing is as good as traditional signals and signal boxes with a mixture of a steam locomotives and a Proper station any thing is better than the modern shit

No, It's not static electricity. The cloth is used so as to keep the handle clean and to avoid a build up of moisture from the signalman's hands causing rust on the lever
@@michaelhuxley1230 Very Correct. in addition towel use does not allow, palm to slip from Lever. It creates friction between palm & lever.
Because it stops the sweat from the hands rusting the metal.
Every signalman should know where his towel is.
