The first time you try VR, you feel weird because all of your flat monitor references are not valid anymore, and you need to learn to drive again. But once you get used to it, it is amazing, and everything you learn will work in real life. You have to try VR in an online race with a full grid, that's when you will enjoy it more, when you are battling side by side and you see it like real life, that's the most WOW I had with VR SimRacing.
I love the Quest 3 for VR racing. It's very light & comfortable and the visuals are great. And I play wireless without any issues. I use a 3rd party head strap battery unit. I highly recommend.
@@SarahNocchii was gonna recommend the quest 3 there is maybe a slight visual hit but the comfort should be much better as it's a lot smaller and has more face shields available on the market including some cool cushioning
@@SarahNocchi I actually sold my pimax crystal in favour of the q3 the lenses are far better and the clarity isn't really that far off and at the same time not as big a chunky much more comfortable
I use the original Pimax Crystal headset. For me, even triples aren't satisfying anymore. I'm significantly faster and more consistent in VR. For clarity, I'm lucky enough to have zero issues with extended use, weather its motion sickness or headaches. I do have twin fans mounted on my rig on either side of my wheelbase because it does definitely get hot. I would recommend the 15mm face pad and the comfort topstrap. both increase the comfort and keep it in the sweetspot. I'd also suggest AMS2, nothing is better in VR. LMU, although still in work progress, got a new VR update and looks pretty good too. VR is definitely more work, but when you get it dialed in, there is no substitute.
@@graemacinnis1202 thanks for the advice and for sharing your experience! I think with the upgraded face pads and the fans it would make the experience a lot more enjoyable for me! I love the immersion of VR, and I am sure it would help me improve too. If I can fix the comfort I might consider using more regularly!
I would like to ask if when you move your head, do experience some movement lag? Like when you quickly look left, does the headset physically lag behind your movement due to inertia?
@@edwardt8194 The response is instantaneous, I've never experienced any lag either with the Crystal or PSVR2. Having that issue would more than likely be the result of either really bad settings, or hardware not up to the task of VR. It definitely requires more robust hardware to get the most out of it. I can imagine view lag would be absolutely unplayable. For a frame of reference, I'm running a 7950X3D with 64 GB of 5600 ram and a 4090, so i can run any VR right now at ultra settings at 90 fps without any throttling, but I realize that's not an option for everyone. The crystal, either regular or light, is resource intensive because of the clarity, so plan accordingly. I will say, I have a PSVR2 for my PS5, so I got the adapter for pc just to see how it worked, and I will say I was impressed, I used it for a week instead of the crystal, and never felt I was being cheated. Is the crystal better? Of course, but when you figure the price to performance and the lower spec needed to run it, it's a very good option, it's also a less intrusive wearing experience. For me, it's not a big deal, I have the comfort strap, 15mm face pad, and I run the HonsVR lenses for my Rx so I don't have to wear my glasses. I do 8 hour stints no problem, but I realize that's not common for most people, so maybe a smaller, lighter headset suits some people better. This got away from me a little, but to sum it up, if you have appropriate gear, you won't get any lag from head movement to what you see, it's just like real life.
@@graemacinnis1202 I get that but I'm talking about the physical lag in real life, not on the screen. Think like a fishing rod. If I wiggle it the tip goes back and forth lagging behind your actual movement. Given the size of the crystal, my concern is in that the quick movement from side to side would create a similar lag that your eyes need to adjust to. The reason I ask is because I have a motion rig with a G2 and although the movement lag in the headset is not much, it is still noticeable. I am in the market and am thinking of Bigscreen Vr because it seems improbable that it could be affected by this.
@@edwardt8194 I never noticed anything like that, it wouldn't be any different than driving with a helmet on in real life. Your head and everything you see moves as fast as your head and everything you see. 1:1
Sim racing so much easier in VR, especially properly judging your brake points, distances to other cars and being able to look into the apex. Situational awareness is much better too. Edit: Comfort is increased quite a bit if you have a small desk fan aimed at your head while racing. Stick with it Sarah and you'll become a convert.
6:45 Sarah says it's pretty amazing. The truth is - flat screen image of VR recording can't be "delivered" to viewer and transfer same image and feelings what VR user has. Imagine yourself sitting in real car and driving it - that's what VR user sees. By adding extra accessories - bass shakers, or SLIP ANGLE system, motion system, Wind simulator, Qubic system Belt tensioners will just add to experience and transform it next to real racing for cheaper and safer...
Very true!! Very difficult to describe/explain the feeling. What is shown on monitor is nowhere near what you actually see in the headset. Only way to understand is to try it out. I should have mentioned that in the video, thanks for pointing it out.
I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting a wind simulator setup. The constant wind helps fight dizziness and nausea, but the added immersion is incredible. When you get speed curving correct (as you turn left, the air intensifies on the left but not the right, etc) it literally can't be beat.
I have the sim racing studio ones. But Moza has been strangely putting out surveys on their discord about wind simulators so they might be cooking up something. @@SarahNocchi
Build your own using bilge blowers. Anything using PC fans is a complete joke. I use four 270 cfm blowers and two arduinos using the monster moto shield. You can curve the airflow so when you turn, the wind will pan sides.
I only race in VR, the depth perception and being able to look in to the apex is so much better than a single screen, even just on a quest 3. I haven't got room for triples. Once you get used to VR its hard going back to flat screens. The main downside is insurance racing, VR for over 1 HR races gets trying. ACC is terribly optimised for VR so is F1 and WRC. Luckily iRacing looked amazing out the box for me so did AMS2. Assetto Corsa with a lot of modding looked great too. Dirt rally 2 in VR is awesome fun. Great Vid
So far tried AC and Dirt Rally 2.0, both great in VR. Couldn't get WRC to work. I'm thinking of trying AMS2 seems like a lot of people say it's good in VR.
Glad to see you trying VR. I haven't played in 2D in two years now, as being inside the car driving, looking around just doesn't get any better! As you said though, it does get hot and uncomfortable after 2 hrs for me as well. I really like my Q3 and the after market head strap with a built in adjustable cooling fan with a 10k mha battery. Have fun with it Sarah. 💯👍👍
@@ThePepeOne thank you for watching! And thanks for sharing your experience. Adding a cooling fan seems like an excellence idea! It would probably help improve the experience a lot. The immersion is definitely unbeatable with the headset.
@@SarahNocchi I forgot to mention I also got a bandana to wear on my forehead, which keeps the sweat off the gear and I also got a wind system, which really helps cool me off during my 2hr sessions. So much fun!!
Think something like bigscreen beyond headset is probably better choice for comfort and ease of setup as it's integrated with steamvr although it has some issues with glare on lenses. As far as family and friends experience i find out that sim driving usually causes dizziness etc and putting on something like microsoft flight simulator tends to be a better demo of vr.
Depending on your hight 8:41 if your head is on similar hight and you have same seat design. Due to design issue of PCL (back plate being to thick) your head will be tilted forward! As Im endurance driver this ended up in back pain. No one talks about it in any review so be aware! I can see her head is tilted as well but I think she haven't drove with it enough to notice as well perhaps one of the reasons she have a pillow behind. I returned mines due to this issue.
@@marknagh I meant if VR sets are being developed with sim racing as a priority… But the hoops needed to jump through is what’s putting a lot of consumers off. It’s down to both the game and VR developers to make things ready to go straight out the box and that’s never gonna happen. It’s easier for them to have us buyers to fine tune and post recommendations
I can bet that Sarah probably spent an hour or more dialing this in, making edits to graphics card, iRacing INI files etc. The video doesn't show this, but I can imagine this could be a nightmare and frustrating for some PC challenged people. Just saying, if you need to make a bunch of configuration changes, this is a debbie downer.
I just got my crystal light a week or two ago and when I strapped it on in IRacing, the experience was absolutely awful. My Prior headset was a reverb G2 and it was superb. With the Pimax, I find the vast majority of what I see just looks weird. Writing on the trackside signs far away is very hard to read and it makes my head feel very bizarre. I’ve never had aproblem in VR before . I wrote to Pimax about this and they are sending me some new lenses so hopefully that will fix it.
One of the advantages of the older valve index was the USB front compartment. I installed a fan on it and it did well to keep the hot air off my face. My new quest 3 gets jot, but I found if you face a fan towards you, it regulates your temperature quite well. Lastly. In games like sims, you don't need the headstrap as tight as in a shooter or more action based game. So you just need to adjust the top strap so it can balance at the correct height then loosen it for better airflow. Just remember it'll feel weird when you turn your head tho haha.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Pimax Crystal Light is my first VR and first PC ever (I’m over 45). Been waiting for good VR for over 5 years. Was struggling to get a perfectly sharp image clarity in both eyes simultaneously (either one was good or other). So when I close left eye, the R eye image is clear. When I close R eye, the left eye image is not perfectly clear. If I adjust headset a millimiter or two the left becomes clear but Right goes off. Was getting nauseous too, I know it's part of getting over motion sickness but image did not help either. STUDIOFOAM sorted the issue, kit works a treat. Now both eye images are perfect sharp and results in next to real life image in Crystal Light VR. I took Pimax Crystal Light original face pad off. Did use Studiofoam one spacer and stick soft Grey Fabric pad on top. Now aftermarket face pad doesn't get warm what makes VR experience lot nicer. I only simrace. In Assetto corsa BMW 235i Racing steering wheel has tiny digital red numbers what now looks absolutely clear. I mean same clarity as I would see on my steering wheel in sim rig real life. Alfa Romeo Guilietta and Mito has small ABS info writing on bottom of wheel base, now it’s perfect. Mazda MX5 cup Steering wheel LCD display is sharp and clear. Now I can confidently say I will keep Crystal Light and sell of PSVR2 what I bought second hand to test while waiting for Pimax. The only issue with Pimax Crystal Light is the sweet spot is very very TINY. I mean if I move Headset a millimiter or two off the ideal position the image is not perfect. I still wonder if it is supposed to be so or my lenses are from the funny batch. At the moment I can say I am happy with Crystal Light and do recommend it highly.
@@kristaps2010 thanks for sharing your experience as well! Glad to hear you are happy with the Crystal Light! I went through the same hassle of trying to find the perfect adjustments for my head/eyes. I believe optimum tech changed the pads in his headset too to make it more comfortable. I had issues with getting nauseous when the image wasn’t perfectly clear. Thankfully once I changed all the settings and got it to work properly it completely went away! Thanks for watching and for the comment ;)
Your problem is just a configuration issue, Pimax can be configured more thoroughly, few people have a symmetrical IPD, and Pimax knows this, so with its native program, you can create your own configuration, it's not complicated, and the Chinese are not very clear about the concept of "customer service or they think that all their clients are engineers" but luckily, some retirees in Spain have time and knowledge to spare, so I can assure you that you will find a solution to your problems... the video is in Spanish, but the images are universal... I think the protagonist is over 70 years old... youtube:delta Asi funciona el IPD en las Pimax Crystal Ligth
@@CraigMansfield yes thank you confirming the importance of good Frames per second, I think that helps massively to reduce discomfort. On Assetto Corsa I have OpenXR toolkit overlay showing steady 90fps. So far so good, getting used to it that’s all it is. But I do appreciate convenience of my PS5 and 50 panasonic plasma when racing Assetto Corsa Competizione in our league (10tenth racing community), it’s fantastic experience, still.
Note for anyone thinking about grabbing this headset for this. Buy a base station and get the base station plate for this headset. Others have commented on there being a lagging feeling using this headset for racing. It looks like from what others have said it's due to the inside out tracking cameras on this headset not being as good as base station tracking.
AMS2 is the best VR experience for sim racing. I own just about every sim but when it comes to VR, I don’t even think it’s comparable AMS2 is just optimized for VR better. You really should try the Quest 3 with a good head strap or the big screen beyond for comfort.
@@SarahNocchi in AMS2 in the options make sure you set a button for re-centering your head set. Other than that, that’s pretty much it. There are some other things you can do as well like adjusting the filter in the game files but honestly for a great experience that’s the only thing you really have to do.
If you decide to use the headset again before you send it back I’d recommend pointing a fan towards yourself it definitely helps with getting hot and I even think it adds to the immersion 👍
You can easily adjust the fit of your crystal recommend the Studioform Creative face kit, Pimax comfort top strap and try changing the rear cushion to something more padded. Using these mods with Valve Index rear head foam spacer on mine.
@@SarahNocchi the stock face cushion and plastic base seem designed for someone with a very large head and super wide face. I found the stock cushion also too warm especially my forehead. Initially I used strips of velcro and a Vive cushion, Studioform Creative later produced their kit which is very useful. The Pimax top strap is game changer in terms of comfort, stability when moving, balance. However it benefit from extra padding as it doesn't have any. I use soft velcro strips but Studioform also made a strap pad. Good luck sorting out your fit!
Honestly, V.R. is always a love/hate battle. It's quite common to think you've finally worked it out, and then something will change without your permission (last time it was Valve/Steam changing the scale resolution, the time before that it was the cable on my router needed to be changed for some reason). V.R. is great but it's still fairly early days. I've had the Oculus Rift, Oculus Go, Oculus Rift S, Valve Index, Quest II and Quest III. I ended up selling my Quest III and going back to Quest II; I just couldn't get comfortable with the Quest III. Quest II with Virtual Desktop and a WiFi-6 router, is amazing. I turn on Spacewarp (which asks the P.C. to generate X amount of frames per second and the headset makes up the missing ones, so it's less work for the P.C.) Snapdragon Upscaling (makes it higher resolution by things that the chip can do), clock boost, and sharpening algorithm, and it looks fantastic. I'm not a sim driver, I was into Half Life Alyx, and flying my helicopter (I made some helicopter controls). I think what a lot of people don't get about V.R. (and I didn't know it either) is that it's in 3D. It gives people depth perception. So if you want to feel like you're enclosed in the car, V.R. will be amazing for you. Comfort wise, it depends on the headset really and the strap. The strap there on the Pimax, looks pretty good but maybe you would be more comfortable with a weight on the back for a counterbalance. I find it best to loosen everything on the straps, then get the best visual placement, and start tightening things up one by one. You did very well to troubleshoot the clarity issues, a lot of people would just give up and say it looks bad. As you have V.R. you have to try Half Life Alyx - at the very least, set Russell's Lab as your home in Steam Home. Assetto Corsa EVO in V.R. is going to be great.
Thanks for sharing your experience and feedback! It's good to hear from people that have tried multiple headsets and setups. I think you make a good point. VR is awesome, but you have to work for it. It's not streamlined yet. It's possibly the main reason why I am not fond of it yet. I love the experience, but I am too impatient to deal with all the little things haha. I like to jump in my sim and be ready to race right away. I will definitely try it in a different setting though, outside of racing. I sure will love it.
Your experience identifies me, I prefer Quest2 at 250% than Q3 at 100%... In March 2025 I will take a path of no return, 9800x3d+5090+Pimax light mod, I will put all the hardware in a minimized form factor, I think nothing better will come...
I use Pico 4 (Pancake lenses inside) with Virtual Desktop and my WiFi 6 router and 4090 FE. I also run OpenComposite. Honestly the picture quality is very good and the headset runs wireless and is very comfortable.. I highly recommend to everyone
Yeah, Steam VR is terrible. The sooner you bypass that, the better. I was using open composite with the Open XR toolkit and Pimax XR runtime to bypass steam vr and huge gains. Even better now, the new Pimax play version has all that built into it so you don't have to fool around with multiple software pieces if it's not your thing.
@@SarahNocchi Unfortunately that's exactly right. I worked on my own helicopter controls and it took weeks to get everything to work (took me years to design and make them - and they're still pretty ugly), and as soon as I thought I'd cracked it, something else broke, or X Plane would have a bizarre bug like the sound would go off. Then you'd get that to work and Steam would do something, then Windows, then something updates without your permission and something else breaks............. hehehe then a cable decides it's not happy and you have to buy a new one. But when it's working, you can have really nice moments. You do get a feel for it all, and you do learn what's most likely to be going wrong, but even for me after years, sometimes you just get a bizarre bug out of nowhere. You did really well to configure the V.R. when it looked really blurred. I'd have to look up how to do that as well. I wouldn't know. Aye, V.R's definitely not "out the box". Not the high level, good quality stuff. You have to play Half Life: Alyx. It's the best V.R. game that's been made yet. And it might sound daft, but I enjoy Google Earth in V.R.. I like to go to places like Rome, or New York, and look at the buildings and wonder who lives in them. Metro Exodus is coming out in V.R. and that looks like it's going to be good. Happy racing :) 👍
A friend borrowed his VR headset for me to try on my sim rig, while im definitely more consistant with triple screens. But with the VR the immersion is so good, and sometimes you want that instead of perfect laps. Im looking to get that pimax crystal light.
I drive with my Quest 3 and the PS VR2 via PC Adapter sometimes iRacing in VR. But on the end of the day i always go back to my flat screens because its to uncomfortable wearing the headset for several hours.
Metaquest 3 with BinBok strap does not feel heavy in the head at all. You can keep it all day and it will not press anywhere. But even that setup will feel tiring for eyes, if long sessions. Specially for me, as I am old.
Nice video! Your comment about the helmet made me think that a VR headset that fits like a helmet sounds cool. No pressure on the front of your face would be 👨🍳
Thanks for the input on this VR headset. Lets be honest we all want the most realistic experience to actually driving a real race car, however we're not racing a real car so we want to have fun. This isn't a job, but recreation and fun and I want it to be just that. Having something that large (even though Sarah noted it wasn't that heavy) to me is bulky and I'd rather not have that hanging off my head for 2-3 hours of racing. I went from a single wide screen monitor to triple monitors about 6 months ago and it was amazing enough. VR is great don't get me wrong, but what if the VR technology was in a pair of glasses (sunglasses) this would be FAR more tolerable than having a bulky headset strapped to your head with a crank to tighten it and give you a headache after an hour. Think about that 🙂
Great video! While my setup isn't nearly as high end on the monitors or VR side, I do have a triple 1440P monitor and a Quest 3. I play a lot of Euro/American truck sim and it's undeniably better in VR from an immersion level. I don't sim race so I can't speak for that but I have done Dirt Rally in VR and it blew my mind with my basic Logitech wheel.
I don’t know when you did that video, but this week Pimax play was uploaded to the last version with native OpenXR. Try it on iracing and you will have a better performance in general.
i love this headset once it’s setup properly it’s so good. for some reason i drive much faster in VR compared to my triple screen setup. regardless, PCVR generally is awesome.
The helmet comment is nothing but truth!! I was Aircrew in The Marines, So All my flight sim is done in VR and it feels so natural to me. Sim Racing is the exact same. I con no longer do any flight or race sims on a regular flat screen.
I think it’s all a question of habit and getting used to it! I’ve never done it before so it’s a big change and requires a lot of adjustments. But I am sure if I keep doing it I’ll end up liking it better than monitors!
Yay you tried VR. It’s funny I’m the opposite, my VR headset is currently being replaced under a warranty and I’ve stopped iRacing because I don’t like racing online on a flat screen. But if I’m just having fun I sometimes use screen just for convenience. I do agree though, if you are racing a few hours it can get a bit horrible due to sweat and heat, and if making UA-cam videos it’s not the easiest, boosted media came to same conclusion on that. Glad you got to try it and saw the advancement!
That’s interesting! I totally understand why people wouldn’t want to go back to monitors. And it probably would help me become a better driver. Maybe if I can fix the comfort issue and add fans it will change my mind ;)
The FOV of the Pimax 12K, they are working on, is going to right up there with triple screen. I have an older 5K and it's very immersive with the 180 FOV. I have three 50' 4k screens so that is far more enjoyable for me than VR at the moment. But, the 12K will be when I buy my next VR headset. I think even then, I'll jump between triple screen and VR.
Great video what gpu are you running I have a quest 3 and psvr2 with adapter and both are not as clear don’t know if I need a better gpu or my settings are off I’m running a rtx 4070 super
You have to get the studioform kit for this headset, it really helps. I got the one with the headband included, although I've yet to get that to feel right it's helping aleviate some pressure on my face.
You might want to check out the big screen Beyond. You'd be giving up some clarity and you'd have to put up base stations, but I think that you gain so much in comfort that might make it better for you. You should see if they'll send you one for review.
VR is much more immersive, but I guess as a streamer it has a significant drawback: you have something on your face and people can't see you too well 😄
I think the Pimax Crystal Light is Incredible! VR is amazing and if its not??? your probably doing it wrong. You save alot of money right off the top not buying oversized and multiple monitors. I use it for flight simming and it gives you actual scale, depth perception, and an appreciation for high places, lol! In my opinion.
Yes it sure is incredible, and the quality and resolution really surprised me in the best possible way! Only the comfort was a downside, but of course there are ways to make it better if considering using long term!
The video its really on point . I would recommend you using open xr in asseto corsa competitione. Gives you big performance and clarity boost (CAS filter on 70%) Im with RTX4090 and Crystal and getting better picture quality than on the monitor.
when i first tried VR it was on AC and FPS was probably way too low i was dizzy and sick immediately, but i knew it was the best way to race ff to a later date, and I decided to try it on iRacing using oculus runtime. It would hold 72 FPS, and I did not feel sick at all. I was hooked. I have not gone back to monitor since !
Yes the resolution is very important! I got sick when I first tried the headset because my settings were wrong. Once I fixed everything the motion sickness went away, experience became incredible!
@@SarahNocchi in VR, it is true that you are moved a little further back in the car. I was unsure what to think about it at first, but I noticed that, at least with the FF 1600, it helped me perceive the slip angle of the car a little better. The FF 1600 is awesome in VR, and also the MX5.
@@duanebusch72 I think everything is configurable, you set the distances, you need to adjust everything, it can be done easily and you just have to try, I encourage you not to give up on it, there are many things you don't know...
I use the Varjo Aero and Quest 3, not just for racing and flight sim, but for every day work as well. So I've become quite used to them. My Aero has a small fan built in that keeps air moving and makes even endurance races comfortable. Having seen comparison videos from Dave can, Boosted Media, Suellio, and now Sarah, I do think it's a personal preference. Though Suellio's comments were interesting and I hope to get to the point to confirm or deny his allegations! 😅
Honestly the Pimax is all about having FOV and a lot of pixels, for easy of setup, comfort for long session it isn't it. Its too bulky for me as well. I much prefer my Quest 3 (not the 3S). Altho I'm really not into Meta in general I still 100% recommend it if you want something that you can wear for longer period of time, the light Q3 with its pancake lenses + Bobo head strap with battery is great for VR, convenience and you can have a long session wireless or with a wire for better image quality. Altho I just wish the Valve Deckard would come out already. The BigScreen Beyond is something else too, super super small and light the only reason I didn't buy it is that I don't have an iPhone nor does my friends and family so I can't easily take the required scan of my face. I'm really not into bulky headsets, ofc Pimax does have its place but comfort and ease of use is too important for me and I don't think its a great first impression of where VR is at RN. (Pimax require too much tinkering for some applications and the weight is a deal breaker for me)
Unfortunately, it's not something most people would use 100% of the time. Therefore, instead of comparing price to monitors you would instead be adding the cost on top of monitors. I know I did. I needed both. Wearing VR full time for long race sessions is extremely uncomfortable for me, even after modifying head straps to improve comfort. Then the setup, configuration, compatibility with many games is so different. Might be ok if you play 1-2 Sims but I like to play nearly every racing game there is. Far too much effort to make VR work for that as it currently stands. I need to try something other than the Quest 2 but can't afford blowing more money on that.
I watched the video and must tell you that the discomfort you felt was user error. This halo style headstrap requires all the weight be adjusted correctly with the top band first before fully clamping down the halo knob.
Might be, but I am not the only one that complained about comfort. There are other paddings that would probably help a lot. I had to adjust for my vision to be clear, then tight it up to stay in place properly.
@@SarahNocchi the top strap acts as a balance point for the load of the headset. I noticed when you had it on the top strap was loose and not properly adjusted.
At first try, yes! Because my settings were wrong and quality of image was low. Once I figured everything out the motion sickness completely disappeared!
Hard to answer. If you're dual income, no kids living in an apartment in rural New Mexico, probably a hell of a lot less than two kids in college and living in Manhattan....
PC VR still has a long way to go but developers are not doing enough to help improve issues or performance. GT7 with VR while not the best, it works so easily and is so simple to switch between using on TV/Monitor or VR. It will also likely (after patch) look a bit sharper than normal with new PS5 PRO. - See @4:58 for....... Exacly like what you would experience with the Tobii Eye/Headtracking on that awesome monitor. Still you have not tried, ahhhhhhhhh. No 3D and yes VR brings certain benefits but the option to better use the monitor to have a much more comfortable and for longer gaming sessions is possible. What you dont eexpress enough is that your own PC specs are not capable to get the most out of this VR or that monitor. Content is good but you really need to upgrade the PC to properly cover such reviews.
I need this headset in my life….can I have yours please? Lool…great review btw but I do have concerns with wearing it for prolonged gaming sessions! There is a 15mm pad on their website to help comfort.
VR is even better with motion systems. It solves any nausea for those who struggle. If you stick with VR, you'll want to get rid of that seat. But then we don't get to see your face. Streamers don't stick with VR. It's part of the vanity of UA-camrs and streamers.
The most comfortable way to use a VR headset is to remove the headstrap and - using velcro - attach the headset to an open faced motorbike helmet, you superglue the velcro to the helmet but not to the headset. I've been using a full VR helmet for over two years and I'd never go back to a head strap.
Thanks for the video....................But, you speak far to quickly to allow people to understand what your saying, more so when its the parts your not speaking live. You have great visuals, but destroy the audio by rushing your speech. If your good, people will spend the time to stay and watch, but if you rus and its hard to clearly hear the words, they will not carry on watching...............I watched and saw you can make it better by not rushing and therefore wrote this. Hope it helps and look forward to seeing your next video. EDIT: I would be interested how you would find my motorcycle motion simulator in VR? You seem a cool, but serious aimmer like me. Ride and drive without the danger is so much fun!!!
Byu it, test it, then get your opinion. Don't rely on people who says things based on they experience, because your could be completely opposite. This is why you never experience those things.
Triple monitor is so overkill imo, I rarely ever see the top dogs looking left or right on there screens. In VR it's just so much easier. Q3 + bobovr headstrap = goat
The first time you try VR, you feel weird because all of your flat monitor references are not valid anymore, and you need to learn to drive again. But once you get used to it, it is amazing, and everything you learn will work in real life. You have to try VR in an online race with a full grid, that's when you will enjoy it more, when you are battling side by side and you see it like real life, that's the most WOW I had with VR SimRacing.
i personally race better on vr with a wheel than with a monitor and a wheel
I love the Quest 3 for VR racing. It's very light & comfortable and the visuals are great. And I play wireless without any issues. I use a 3rd party head strap battery unit. I highly recommend.
Great advice! Thank you, I appreciate it
It's great that you enjoy it, but if you try the Pimax light, you won't like the Q3 anymore, it's another world, but only if you have a great PC...
And also with a plus of 20 ms Latency
Stick with it Sarah and you'll become a convert.
i'm running the Pimax Crystal for a few months now. love it.
Happy to hear that! Definitely great value :)
She's more in how she looks in this than what it's capable of
I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting a wind simulator setup. The constant wind helps fight dizziness and nausea, but the added immersion is incredible. When you get speed curving correct (as you turn left, the air intensifies on the left but not the right, etc) it literally can't be beat.
That would have been amazing especially with the headset. I have been thinking about it, may be my next addition to the rig ;)
Thanks for your advice...I have tried today for the 1sr time with VR hp reverb g2 and...oh my god...felt thick after 1 lap. 😂
@@davidredlobster6894 don't update windows... You've been warned.
Love seeing the evolution of your setups. Your previous video sold me on my 57" ultrawide.
Thank you! And glad videos are helpful! How do you like the 57in ultrawide??
@@stevenlarson3316the best in VR I have them all and AMS2 just did it right when it comes to VR.
If you want to sim race in VR (I also use a Pimax) then you need to try AMS2, visually in VR it is MILES BETTER than all other sims.
Yes I will give it a try! Just wanted to see how it felt in my usual sim, which is iRacing
I love how these creators get good headsets and me, and many others have lense issues.
I thought I had issues but it was steamvr causing problems. Went to openxr and it’s working perfect
@@br4nd0n79 I tried both
Depending on your hight 8:41 if your head is on similar hight and you have same seat design.
Cool video! Ready for that road to 2k irating vid :D
Thanks! And I’m working on that ;) probably 2 to 3 weeks out
We shouldn't need to do Google searches to get things dialled in. Things should be tested on each sim and info included
This should get pinned at the entrance of the HQ for every VR developing company.
The helmet comparison was funny, thats actually true 🤣 great review!! I need to try this one day
Haha thanks!! 😊
You should definitely try it, it’s a unique experience!
@@SarahNocchi will definately try it on Assetto Corsa EVO 2025 16th January.. Bell helmet was spotted in video trailer.
It should be MANDATORY for any VR test for sim racing to use Automobilista 2.
Ams2, King of VR

@@SarahNocchi that sickness usually comes from the refresh rate, I think it needs to be higher but you can experiment. You want at least 70fps -
Your problem is just a configuration issue, Pimax can be configured more thoroughly, few people have a symmetrical IPD, and Pimax knows this, so with its native program, you can create your own configuration, it's not complicated, and the Chinese are not very clear about the concept of "customer service or they think that all their clients are engineers" but luckily, some retirees in Spain have time and knowledge to spare, so I can assure you that you will find a solution to your problems... the video is in Spanish, but the images are universal...
VR with Motion rig, belt tensioner and 4 bass shakers is the best! Crystal is really great. I got the normal version.
AMS2 is the best VR experience for sim racing. I own just about every sim but when it comes to VR, I don’t even think it’s comparable AMS2 is just optimized for VR better. You really should try the Quest 3 with a good head strap or the big screen beyond for comfort.
I’ll definitely try AMS2. So many recommendations. And hopefully will get to try more headsets in the future
@@SarahNocchi in AMS2 in the options make sure you set a button for re-centering your head set. Other than that, that’s pretty much it. There are some other things you can do as well like adjusting the filter in the game files but honestly for a great experience that’s the only thing you really have to do.
@@SarahNocchi AMS2 is the best for VR. They have a big game update coming soon too
Hey Sarah, the best VR is from AMS2, give a try the most beautiful and optimized implementation. I bet would be impressed.
I'll definitely give it a try, thank you!
Pimax sure do cast that marketing far and wide. Props to them for that.
Too funny that I stumble up on this after just spending a few hours racing in VR. It's mind jarring at first, but I think it feels really cool! 🎉
If you decide to use the headset again before you send it back I’d recommend pointing a fan towards yourself it definitely helps with getting hot and I even think it adds to the immersion 👍
Yes that is definitely a must, I’ll see if I have enough time to add it to my setup before I need to send the headset back
You can easily adjust the fit of your crystal recommend the Studioform Creative face kit, Pimax comfort top strap and try changing the rear cushion to something more padded. Using these mods with Valve Index rear head foam spacer on mine.
Yes definitely a need! I am sure with better padding it would make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable
As a VR user myself one thing I have come to realize especially with the Pimax is that high back racing seats are not great.
Definitely haha would probably get used to it, but kinda annoying
Think about that 🙂
I have the meta quest 3 here in Australia its great you must try it Sarah or anyone reading this thanks for the video.
I added an Apache headstrap and counter weight to my Crystal. Made it a lot more comfortable. I wear it for several hours no probs
You channel deserve more views, Likes e and registered. Thank you for more good video.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!
You can have the best of both worlds for both comfort and immersion. Its called the Bigscreen Beyond. I only race in VR in iRacing.
Use the strap on the head side to side and estra foam from studioform
I drive Iracing only in VR with a motion rig for years i couldn't go back to monitors and a fixed setup.
Great video what gpu are you running I have a quest 3 and psvr2 with adapter and both are not as clear don’t know if I need a better gpu or my settings are off I’m running a rtx 4070 super
A motion simulator like the Yaw3 VR would add another level of realism!
You have to get the studioform kit for this headset, it really helps. I got the one with the headband included, although I've yet to get that to feel right it's helping aleviate some pressure on my face.
Definitely would have helped a lot! Will recommend to anyone thinking about buying this headset
You might want to check out the big screen Beyond. You'd be giving up some clarity and you'd have to put up base stations, but I think that you gain so much in comfort that might make it better for you. You should see if they'll send you one for review.
The BSB get's hot and your eyes will sweat. I call it the eye warmer. Shame really. Should have had better cooling.

VR is much more immersive, but I guess as a streamer it has a significant drawback: you have something on your face and people can't see you too well 😄
im a vr enthusiast, but offering that form factor in 2024 is just as crazy as only a pimax can get 😅
I think the Pimax Crystal Light is Incredible!
Gives you big performance and clarity boost (CAS filter on 70%) Im with RTX4090 and Crystal and getting better picture quality than on the monitor.
thanks for the great review, what GPU are you using with the Pima Crystal Light?
Once you get used to VR there's no going back to being a flat screener..I love my HTC Vive Pro 2, I wonder how it compares to the Pimax,
when i first tried VR it was on AC and FPS was probably way too low
i was dizzy and sick immediately, but i knew it was the best way to race
ff to a later date, and I decided to try it on iRacing using oculus runtime. It would hold 72 FPS, and I did not feel sick at all. I was hooked.

Bigscreen Beyond VR
I use the Varjo Aero and Quest 3, not just for racing and flight sim, but for every day work as well. So I've become quite used to them. My Aero has a small fan built in that keeps air moving and makes even endurance races comfortable.
Having seen comparison videos from Dave can, Boosted Media, Suellio, and now Sarah, I do think it's a personal preference. Though Suellio's comments were interesting and I hope to get to the point to confirm or deny his allegations! 😅
VR racing is the best , I enjoy a lot playing assetto corsa whit it
Honestly the Pimax is all about having FOV and a lot of pixels, for easy of setup, comfort for long session it isn't it. (Pimax require too much tinkering for some applications and the weight is a deal breaker for me)
NEXT: 👉 Testing the YAW 3 motion seat 😍
Good review
Thanks!
Definitely run a fan
I watched the video and must tell you that the discomfort you felt was user error. This halo style headstrap requires all the weight be adjusted correctly with the top band first before fully clamping down the halo knob.
Might be, but I am not the only one that complained about comfort. There are other paddings that would probably help a lot. I had to adjust for my vision to be clear, then tight it up to stay in place properly.
@@SarahNocchi the top strap acts as a balance point for the load of the headset. I noticed when you had it on the top strap was loose and not properly adjusted.
Did it make you dizzy?
At first try, yes! Because my settings were wrong and quality of image was low. Once I figured everything out the motion sickness completely disappeared!
@@SarahNocchi Is good :D
Good video Sarah 💯👍
Thank you!!
You're welcome @@SarahNocchi 🟠
The comfort kit makes a big difference
Actually the road looking a lot "bigger" is realistic as most circuits are actually very wide in rl.
lookin stunning, nice settup tho
those are nice setup, how much money I need do make a year?
Hard to answer. If you're dual income, no kids living in an apartment in rural New Mexico, probably a hell of a lot less than two kids in college and living in Manhattan....
Be sure to try Automobilista 2 and Assetto Corsa with CSP and Pure in VR. Both are great.
Thanks! I will make sure to try it ;)
A helmet for VR sim racing seems like a good idea to me actually!! Might be more comfortable.
You should have went quest 3. much more comfortable and easy setup.
I loved the experience of racing in VR, but it gave me such a headache afterwards that I switched back to monitors.
I had the same issue at the beginning, but once I fixed all the settings it was much better
I need this headset in my life….can I have yours please? Lool…great review btw but I do have concerns with wearing it for prolonged gaming sessions! There is a 15mm pad on their website to help comfort.
Unfortunately won’t have the headset for much longer :( but it is amazing for sure! I should have asked for the extra padding, definitely needed 😬
I can use the quest 3 for 4 hours or more.
Can you do a review of meta quest 3
VR is even better with motion systems. It solves any nausea for those who struggle. If you stick with VR, you'll want to get rid of that seat. But then we don't get to see your face. Streamers don't stick with VR. It's part of the vanity of UA-camrs and streamers.
Hopefully soon they'll be just like putting glasses on. Enjoy!
Yes, hopefully! That would be awesome
Thanks for watching :)
6:01 yes you have now small screen and different POV, but its fine not yet motion simulator. ur bf crying need more likes and subs xD
The day they invent a simulator that when we make a mistake on a curve and hit the wall we get hurt I'll be happy😂
Hahaha 💀💀
just get your girlfriend to stand beside you with a frying pan
🤣🤣
If you're using VR headset without playing AMS2, then you're truly missing what VR driving is all about.
The most comfortable way to use a VR headset is to remove the headstrap and - using velcro - attach the headset to an open faced motorbike helmet, you superglue the velcro to the helmet but not to the headset. I've been using a full VR helmet for over two years and I'd never go back to a head strap.
How track elevation feels in VR? More or lees?
More! Definitely more impressive and immersive when it comes to that
blow a fan on you when in VR. It does not have to be too much.
Open VR is not supported any more. Try Open Xr on iracing the performance e is much better.
Try the Shiftall MeganeX Superlight 8K BTW you're beautiful
VR is the best way to sim race but its impossible to use while running a youtube channel. Its never gonna work..
En français stepléé !! :)
Triple monitor is so overkill imo, I rarely ever see the top dogs looking left or right on there screens. In VR it's just so much easier. Q3 + bobovr headstrap = goat
I'm much faster in VR than without
Out of body experience when you take it off for first time
