  • CORRECTION! I WAS 8 MONTHS POST RELAXER HERE
Now I've been going back and forth on whether I want to continue going natural, and I've finally given up! I'm going back to relaxers and I explain my reasons IN DETAIL and the daily struggles I deal with.
I've also been embarrassingly calculating the months wrong since my journey, so I'm actually 8 months post relaxer here!.. Subtract 1 month from any previous video I mention my post relaxer time

You are absolutely right, it isn't for everybody. Natural isn't for everybody, and relaxed isn't for everybody. I tried to go natural soo many times and it just wouldn't work out for me, so I've just accepted that I prefer relaxed hair. I know how to manage healthy relaxed hair and I enjoy taking care of it. For me, personally, it is less work than when I was natural.
Thank you for being honest and sharing your experience! It think it's important that women see it's okay not to go through with transitioning if you are not enjoying it

Thank for making a very, very honest video. Some of us are not honest about their hair texture and density. Some also rave about going natural but your protective styling with weaves, wigs and honestly we all can’t afford to purchase extra hair or salon visits monthly to get your hair done. I see many naturals with extremely long hair but sis your hair texture and genetics play a big role in her hair type and growth. Overall it’s hair a black woman invented the Relaxer and we’ve been ironing, pressing now flatiron our hair to make it straight since my ancestors. Get over it and do what you want with your hair as long as your happy 😆

Before I went natural, I stretched my relaxers for about 12 weeks. At the time I wanted to figure out how to take care both textures because of breakage. That's when I discovered transitioning on UA-cam. My inspiration was Nina Pruitt. It took me about three months to make the decision. I transitioned for 17 months and waited under I was able to put my hair in a ponytail for work. I cut about 17" of hair off because it was becoming overwhelming and too stressful to manage. I've been natural for 10 years now. It's a big decision and I understand you definitely have to be ready for the journey. It can be very taxing until you get use to the routine and epic hairstyle failures. All I can say is doing what makes you happy is first and everything else is second. Be your best self!!!❤❤

I can relate - I went from 30 years of relaxer to sisterlocks.
I wanted to be natural but knew I did not want to spend forever on wash day or any other day dealing with my hair.
I wanted maximum versatility, healthy, easy, natural, aesthetically pleasing hair and thank goodness I found something that works for me.
It all about doing what works for you.

It takes me 5 hours on a wash day and I can’t find any edge control that will lay this stuff down. I’m over it! All the money I invested in natural products and edge control! Ugghh

I big chopped back in August or September of 2020, and your absolutely right it isn’t easy, I went back relaxed after about 3 months because i didn’t see much growth, I’m now transitioning once again. Woman and bashed everyday because they relax there hair, but what people don’t understand is that it isn’t easy. You had a good bit of growth but still a long way to go. After 6 years of natural relaxed just before lock down and it was the best thing for me. I did like my natural hair but as the years went by the maintenance was getting to me. Wash days took a whole day with detangling plus the shrinkage was real. This lead me to keeping my hair under wigs which then didn’t allow me to enjoy my hair as I couldn’t be asked to have my hair out. At least I got to know my natural hair but Yh girl wasn’t for me and not going back x

I know thanks to your recently videos that you decide to continue, but girl I totally agree with everything that you said, I have 4 type hair (mostly 4b), high density, extremely thick hair and a decent length and it’s so hard styling and my wash days are a nightmare. I’ve been thinking about quit and going back to relaxer when my hair was easy to manage and looking good and healthy (but for the better of the worst we are a caught in this pandemic so I’m not going out that much so I thought to give it a try) so for the last 6 months I’ve been in this roller coaster I hope I could stay strong to watch the results at the end of my process :(

Honestly girl I've gone so far into the process now and it really is an emotional rollercoaster!! just the other day I was getting anxiety over my hair and started to miss my relaxed hair again 😭 I was really thinking WHY DID I START DOING THIS haha.. buttt it's just part of the journey and I'm determined to see it through to the end. I think with the pandemic this is the best time to just try because we're not really going anywhere and salons keep closing and reopening. Do keep pushing through with me! I feel at the end of the journey there's a different sense of self love and freedom we're gonna feel, even if not immediately! it'll be nice to just experience being completely natural, then if we don't like the additional work that comes with it we can always go back 😊 Keep strong!! you got this xxx

As someone with type 4 thiccc 20 inch hair, I can candidly tell you it took me 1 hour to wash and detangle my hair. I think that, rather than some hair profiles having "easier" hair than others, it's seriously only technique and decisions. I'd seriously encourage you to try and learn your hair when it's relaxed, then texlaxed, then transitioned because even when I was fully relaxed it took me the same amount of time as it does now.
Of course, you can maintain thick hair while relaxed and enjoy the look but it's never JUST hair, you know? There's a different kind of pride in being able to see your hair in as natural a state as it can be, and see it flourish, to do those afro styles that the world still doesn't seem to accept as the norm and to challenge what black beauty is.
When you're ready to transition again i encourage you to watch youtubers with a similar hair profile to yours to help you on your journey because then you'll feel better encouraged and more equipped to go natural and you might enjoy the process like i am :)

@JONES I don't mean to gaslight her at alllll. That's a really dangerous term to label my comment. She said herself she just didn't try and I'm telling her that she should give it another go while accepting the short comings and overcoming them. Every time I sit in a chair or have someone handle my wash day, they complain that it's too much to handle and take hours to get it done. When I do my hair it isn't in dread WHATSOEVER because I took the time to grow it out relaxed and then maintain it in transition. Why can't I encourage her to try again using this method? If someone didn't give me the same advice I wouldn't know as much as I do now. I think women can do whatever they want with their hair but I don't want her to have to say she can't live with natural hair.
I watched the whole video without prejudice, and I completely understand what she's saying, that's why I think that she'll have a successful transition if she goes about it with a different intention

You’re so pretty (I love your brows) and good at braiding. I’m currently transitioning and I recently understood why my detangling doesn’t go as well as someone who has short hair. I grew my hair out from a bob (now boob length) before deciding to transition, I just don’t feel like getting relaxed anymore and like you would want to be natural eventually anyway. I’m also timing it so that I cut it a bit before I start law school and so that I’ll be able to have short hair for a bit (I plan on transitioning for 9 or 10 months). It took me over three hours to detangle my hair last time I washed it because despite my detangling efforts my hair matted up once water touched it. I also have very thick hair, that everyone who has ever done it has commented on, which doesn’t help. The only thing that’s changed for me is that I’m not gonna transition for a year, like a I previously planned. I would cut it now but...the way my head shape is set up I think I’d look terrible lol. Part of me wants to do a “mini chop” but most of my protective styles that I like to do involve length so I’ll probably just stick it out, 5 months to go. Good luck to you! Hope you’re able to get your hair done soon so you don’t get breakage from stretching so long

I totally feel you. Natural hair isn't for everyone. Especially since I don't have a hairdresser who can press my hair every two weeks like when I was coming up. At times im "lazy about the head" & natural hair will have me in a rut doing it by myself. By my hair being relaxed I can make a ponytail pretty easy. I can't do hair real good anyways so trying to maintain it in it's natural state will have my hair looking real bad. So enjoy your relaxed hair it's yours to do it how you want too.

@@nucchi I actually am planning to go back to relaxed hair. Your hair is much longer than mine was when I did the big chop. I can only tell you that your results may be different from mine. I can tell you my experience is that i couldn’t do anything with it, I have knots in my hair which caused me to have breakage from trying to get them out. I thought it would make my hair thicker but it didn’t. In my opinion it’s actually harder to maintain than relaxed hair. I’ve spent so much money on products only to find non of them worked. It just isn’t for me but I think you should do what you think is best for you and what you can deal with. 🥰

I agree with you. I have thick 4c hair like u and the only way i could keep my natural was to big chop. It was easy for me to transition because i grew up chopping my hair is. Even now w years in my natural journey and its crazy hard sometimes. What i do is i deep condition before washing my hair except when i use clay. This method has saved me so much time and i am happy.

I think I really didn't know how to handle the 2 textures here which is why it was taking so long, every wash day my hair would be a tangled matted mess.. but now I've learnt how to deal with it better and it's a lot faster. Not a hate comment but I personally don't think relaxed hair is healthy because you're using a harmful chemical to destroy the hydrosulfate bonds in your hair. So no matter how long or thick or moisturised it is I don't think its healthy because you damaged the natural state of your hair. Again its all up to you and what you prefer but as for me I'm transitioning and I'm not going back and I had what you call "healthy relaxed hair". I definitely understand the struggle and why but not for me.
