Beats the shite out of paddling mate! Bought an isup last year looking for a sail, there are three of us so I’m getting a second board the first can be for paddling I’ll probably get a seat at my age sitting down is where it’s at!
Looks fun! I've been thinking about converting my 14 foot sup to a trimaran somehow. Hopefully for a little more stability and to not have to gut the center of my board for a keel. Thanks for making this and the build video.
Thanks Rhys! I used to have a 16ft double outrigger canoe, a trimaran, (there's a couple of videos of it on my channel) but I found the setup time was too long, probably 30-40 minutes each time and then there was the packing up! I'd suggest keeping it simple with your sailing sup, the less parts = more time on the water! You can always build a custom sup for sailing like I did if you don't want to cut up your current board.
Great job mate! F*** the loc*dow*s and all that nonsense! I'm building a sailing SUP too but using a plain inflatable SUP and the rest is all in the project phase lol. Great idea about the catamaran, can't wait to see what you cook up! 😁Cheers!
Thanks Syd! You should build one of my Cutwater designs. It’ll be a way better sailing sup as you can build and the support structure inside the board. www.vintageboardco.com.au/collections/cutwater-12-5-plywood-paddle-board
it was really good. the sail was the right size...neither big nor small, and it was adjustable. Congratulations. What are you going to invent now? lol...
Thanks Daniel, yes I bought the sail from Bill Pain at Star Kayak Sails. He has a UA-cam channel explaining and demonstrating the different sails available. This one is the 3.4sqm sail.
Thanks Deano, its a stock sail from Star Kayak Sails, they’re an Aussie company run by Bill Pain. He was a big help selecting the right sail size and also making the mast stiffer so the sail kept a more efficient shape. Check out Star Kayak Sails on UA-cam.
Man 😎 I really like that Toy. Nice TRIP.
☝️ Thanks for the Video
🌬 🌊
Thanks Jose
Worked out really well, great addition to the SUP.
Looking forward to the Wood's Cat build.
ammaaaaaaziiing!!!
that’s awesome, mate. Very cool!
Thanks mate, I’m stoked with how it came together!
Wow. When I told my friend that I'm going to build a sup, he said that eventually you will end up with a sail. I've already done the Sup.
Awesome mate, now it’s time for your sail.

Sure does mate!! 😉

Nice job. Be interesting to see you handle a bit more wind and using the furling system.
Thanks Bill
Great peformance
Thanks Taz
Aaron you should do a more in depth look at how to sail. I didn't realize you could sail up wind
Good idea Josh, will do.

Thanks Jucelino, next project will be a 22ft catamaran.
Hi, do you think she would be better if she was slightly longer and marginally wider? what an awesome build - loved watching the process. Cheers ☺
Hi mate, more width isn’t really needed but more length would speed it up a little. Thanks for watching!
@@Aaron.deRuiter cheers mate.
Very nice job. Is that sail commercially available off the shelf?
Thanks Daniel, yes I bought the sail from Bill Pain at Star Kayak Sails. He has a UA-cam channel explaining and demonstrating the different sails available. This one is the 3.4sqm sail.
That sail was nice. I need something like that for my tiny trimaran (I'm just up the road in Lake Macquarie). Where did you get it?

Newbie questions, any rules of tumbs for sail area vs board lenght? Thanks in advance
Which camera are you using?
It's the GoPro Max 360 camera on a long pole.
