So wonderful to see. Thank you.
I was telling my 13 year old son about the chair lift and Mad Mouse and could show him ❤
I had not yet come to Australia, until the following year, and my first visit to the Show was as a tourist from Whyalla with my parents in 75 and 76.... a lifetime ago now
Time sure flies, hey?
The other guy with the camera stands out...no phones, no selfies. Grateful for that clip Will. The Show was a huge day out. Thanks. 👍
My pleasure Dave. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks again for your support mate 🙏
In the central lawn area next to the toilet block was a food booth with a PA blaring out loud in an endless loop all day and night, a deep mature male voice proclaiming:
"PERCULATED COFFEE! THE ONLY PERCULATED COFFEE AT THE SHOW!"
"MAKING, BAKING, FRESH HOT CINAMON DONUTS"
I would've been at that show that year when I was 10. A year after my step dad passed away, and I lived with mum in North Unley. We walked to and from the Show, and it was the only time of the year my feet ached that night from all the walking on Show day. lol
Cool share David. Thank you, mate. Sorry to hear about your step Dad, that is very young to lose someone significant to you. Thanks for watching, mate, much appreciated.
Boy that brings back some pleasant memories! I went that year with my best mate and his family. Me and Peter were both only 13 and it was considered normal for us older boys to just nick off all day and meet the rest of the family at the Ferris wheel by 5.00pm. The Mad Mouse used to scare the hell out me though. Very grateful that this footage is still available to view.
Glad you enjoyed, mate. Thank you very much for watching :-)
Thanks for posting the footage it's great
You are most welcome. Glad you enjoyed it
Wow seeing the ferris wheel with Goofy on it was cool, I rode that when I was about 3 have a photo of it . Also coming from a carnival family I knew the owners
Cool. Thank you for watching, much appreciated :-) Will
Great clips. Real memories there. I remember my sister and I getting stuck on the chairlift when it broke down one year! Would have been early-mid 70's.
Man, that would have been a little unnerving 😬
Love your display picture , SHUTUP !
Wow wow wow that was so awesome thank you
My pleasure mate 🙏
I remember a time back in the glorious 70s after each Royal Show was over and before the next years show started, you could hire mini motorbikes and race around most of the show ground. It cost two dollars an hour and you would go with some mates and try catch each other or lose each other. You had to be over 12 years old, I was fourteen and my mates were all around the same age. If you wore shorts(Stubbies) you would often get your calf muscle burnt on the red hot chrome exhaust pipe, huge blister the next day, Was open weekends and school holidays, bloody great fun
Wow, I didn't know that.
Went on the mad as a young girl scared me to death
I went on it once as a 16 yr old.....never again! Put me off for a life-time lol
And yet it looks so tame by today's standards. I went on it once...once 😬
@@elizabeththatwas I just didn't feel safe...but then, I don't trust show rides full stop lol.
@@elizabeththatwas I only managed it once too. That feeling of going straight over the edge and then suddenly turning left or right freaked me out too much.
@@retonooze I was on it all the time 😂😂😂
All of those kids are now grandparents!
Pretty wild, hey? Most of my friends are grandparents now...lol. Cheers for watching 🙏🍷
@@elizabeththatwas I bet there will be a kid that says that amount me in 40 years :(
Or dead
When the show offered a surprise around every corner. There was larger selection. Back then the show had character. Now its just a money grab. Same thing over and over again. Thankyou for this.
Thank you for watching, Gerry :-) Will
sensational. so many memories as a 13 year old.
Glad you enjoyed it Peter. Cheers for watching mate 🙏
@@elizabeththatwas Compulsive viewing my friend !
I see the old Round Up which became the Gravitron later on..
In the late 1960's or early 70's there was a show ride tragedy. I think it was called the Bomber. Anyone remember?
Those were the days when there was a "side show alley" I remember Fred Brophy's Boxing Tent, and a "ghost train ride" where all sorts of things would pop out of no-where and scare you. 😀 I think there was a ride called The Zipper?
The zipper ride was my favourite
I remember the Zipper, and the Ghost Train
@@elizabeththatwas I remember the Zipper. I was always scared in the Ghost Train as you never knew what was going to happens.
@@yvonnejohnson3232 I was always scared of the Mad Mouse! Even just watching it scared me lol. When you were on it the whole thing shook and rattled, OMG.
@@retonooze I was trying . to remember the mad mouse. Couldn't remember what it was called.. Yes it did shake and rattle. I used to hold on tighter in case I fell off. LoL Do you remember "Fred Brophy's Boxing Tent" There was a lot of things in Side Show Alley, a display of a "Half man Half woman". the two headed sheep. LoL Or maybe that was only in Melbourne ?
Good times had by all
Yes indeed
notice the cigarette advertising on the rear of the sky chairs !
Those were the days lol. Always had a Marlborough Man advert at the cinema. Benson and Hedges Test Cricket Series. Cigarette girls carrying new brands of ciggies around on trays and giving them out free at pubs etc.
My favourite ciggy ads are the ones that were endorsed by doctors...lol. A very different world
@@elizabeththatwas animal predominantly found in Egypt ?
@@vincentthao3497 OMG I remember having unfiltered Camel cigs!!! Cough cough cough.....
Later on, they changed the advertsing to Coca-Cola.
34 cents and you’re a member come on and join the Escort club..Bertie Beetle show bag..Hoadleys show bags..Ah the good old days..Thanks Will😄
Haha. My pleasure mate 🙏
Maybe a stupid question but at 3.42 what is that? A 1970s version of a selfie rod?
I don't really know - but I do think it has something to do with a camera. Looks a bit like a deflector or light filter. Would love to know myself.
@@elizabeththatwas looks like an old flood light to me. Great footage btw.. love it.
