  • When we bought the current Boogaboo last year, I immediately noted that the waste holding tank had nearly reached the end of it's life cycle. Now, that time has come and we will need to replace it. Not a project I was looking forward to, nor something I had time for last year, but I have now committed to doing it soon.
    As I mentioned in the video, I had the great pleasure of performing this project on our last boat - the Sea Ray 400 Sedan Bridge. You can watch the whole, four part series + a number of other Vacuflush/marine toilet system videos I've produced here, in this Playlist; • Marine Head / Vacuflus...

    That's a nicely engineered alternate way of getting that hatch open. Very cool.

      May I ask you what an air head is? I'm not familiar with that term.

    Don't envy you that job. I keep on putting off doing the poop hoses!
    I had exactly the same problem on my boat last year, though with the fresh water tank. If we tried to fill it too fast it would blow back up the filling pipe onto the deck. Not hornets this time but wasps nest in the vent hose. Managed to blow it out. The only tank on the boat, from reputable Swedish builder, with a mesh filter on the vent is the fuel tank, presumably as a flame trap. Really surprised that they had not put gauze or mesh fittings on the fresh water and poop tank vents, so they are both now on the job list!
    Good luck.

      Thanks. I'm not looking forward to having to do this type of project again (it'll be the third boat that I've had to do a waste holding tank on), but I'm looking forward to getting it done. Also going to give me a chance to clean up a few things in the engine compartment. Good for my long term peice of mind.

    Your experience is a familiar one Paul. Learned many years ago to use some foam rubber to plug all of those exterior “holes” with some foam rubber in the off-season. Made an install/removal check list to ensure there were no forgotten orphans. Ounce of prevention...blah...blah.

      That's a very good idea, Steve! Hope you don't mind if I share that with the rest of the folks here on UA-cam, when I get around to doing g the replacement project?

    I hope the next tank you get is either made of stainless steel or aluminum. I had one boat with a plastic tank,never again. Also make sure your vent is not blocked.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  6 років тому +1

      I'm going with plastic again. Used it twice before and no issues. I'm also going g to be installing a vent releif valve to avert any future collapses. Used it on the last tank/boat and it worked perfectly 👍

      I hear that sewage will eat through stainless steel.

    Should have done that job when it was on the hard over winter, big $ savings. That tank dent can also be from someone standing on the tank.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  6 років тому

      Problem with doing the job in the winter is that we store it up in a covered slip, making a pain in the butt job even more difficult. That, and the fact that it's too darn cold, plus we were in sunny Florida for a good period of time.

    Great video Paul. I too have the same nasty job to deal with. Where did you end up sourcing the new plastic tank from? I’m in Toronto.

      I'm north of Taranna, on Lake Simcoe. Check out my full holding tank replacement video (ua-cam.com/video/sLLlqyPRZLI/v-deo.html) to see how much fun that project really is 😉 Links in the description to the supplier I used - Trionic Corp. If you order from them be sure to mention the Boogaboo Crew 👍

    Great video, what did you do to fix the venting and where did you buy a replacement tank?
    Looking at your video my tank is identical to yours including the crack.

      Hi Ivan,
      I'd be happy to share some pics I have of that #boat, but they are all in a box, taken before digital photography days ☹️ That said, I'm hoping to make digital copies of my old archive to share. Unfortunately, that probably won't happen until the winter...

    A friend of mine took 8-10 "ABS pipe and made round top corners and 45 corners on the bottom and made a tank I bekieve it was 8 sections like Scuba units in a square linked the bottoms with union connectors to his exaust port so when he has to drain it he pulls the drain flag he turns on his 12 v tire compressor and out she goes double time with the unions between them all . Then if he has a problem he cuts one at the joint replaces it with a new pipe and joint no removing all of it ---But scuffing plastic like this and Using Black Windshield polyurethane will bung that hole bigtime .

    Any suggestions to keeping the bathroom from smelling like pee?

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  5 років тому +1

      Start with a very thorough cleaning of all surfaces, including behind the removable toilet shroud. Then, no standing to pee on the boat.

      BoatingWithBoogaboo So I was in my boat this past weekend getting ready to put the boat in the water and notice my bathroom still smells. The tank is empty and there is antifreeze in the toilet. What could be causing the smell?

      Yes, I'm working on that stinky job right now. The replacement unit I got is from Trionic (www.trioniccorp.com), same brand I used on our last #boat. I ended up choosing thier 34 gallon model, as it's the closest in dimensions to the existing 29 gallon unit that #SeaRay put in when new. With any luck, I'll have the old one out today. Keep an eye on Facebook to see how things progress 💩
