  • I'm happy to share the replacement of our waste (poop) holding tank aboard the boat. As the job included removing the old hot water heater (yes, that's what I call it), I ended up replacing that unit as well. But wait, there's more ;-)
    I also did an overhaul of the Vacuflush toilet system which included replacing the vacuum pressure switch, new bellows and new duck bill valves. Again, I had to remove it to access the waste tank, so I took advantage of having it out to service everything.
    A big shout out to Trionic Corp. for helping us out with the new waste holding tanks (www.trioniccor...). Same brand that I used on the last boat and am impressed with the build quality.
    I also want to thank Big Orange Vent Filters (bigorangefilte...) for providing the waste tank vent filter for Boogaboo. As a bonus, you can take advantage of a 10% discount by entering 'Boogaboo' on checkout - available to the end of August, 2018.

    Paul would not have even known where to start on fixing the heads without your videos. There’s nothing really out there except your videos. Just moved aboard a 1987 50 ft Trawler and of course days later no flush. Thanks Frank on Echo Tango

      Hi Frank, glad to hear my videos have helped you out and that you're 'back in business' again ;-)
      I was replying to another follower earlier today about the fact that I started to share these DIY videos a few years back with the thought in mind that if I was having issues with something, there's probably a few other #boaters battling the same problems & they might appreciate seeing what's involved to fix it. Fair warning though, I approach my projects with a 'learn by doing' method but have always came out doing alright. That said, there might be a better or quicker way, but I'm generally happy with the results - especially with an ice cold Corona to celebrate after putting the tools away and washing my hands. Thank goodness we've never had a fridge fail ;-)
      Be sure to check out some of the other projects in my 'Boating How-To' playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLKhjT5kr2l2GpE-r5PjPvMtaRygCEb_si.html). Never know what other messy fun I've gotten in to. But don't stop there, as I've got literally hundreds of original #cruising videos produced over the years, including my recently completed 'Epic 2018 Boat Cruise' series: ua-cam.com/play/PLKhjT5kr2l2G9YFc4WkBlJ9CzwSGp92Pf.html
      I'll look forward to your comments on some of those vids!
      Cheers, Paul.

    I've been an owner/operator of a 60ft boat for about 6 years and recently bought my dream yacht (2007, Johnson 87) and your videos are so helpful and entertaining! I've learned quite a lot from your very clear and understanding videos... Keep up the amazing job brother! Watching your videos has given me more confidence with my own projects and it's actually made ownership a lot more fun! Not to mention, it has saved me so much money by doing them myself when I can. Thank you so much and please keep up the very entertaining videos!!

      Glad to help out, Brian. Happy to learn that my otherwise boring videos are actually helping. My theory has always been that if I try the repairs myself and get stuck, then I can always refer to the specialists for help. Luckily, that only happens these days if it's something that I can't reach - like the fuel pump on our generator!
      I have a few more 'help' videos that I've filmed (VHF antennae, new fenders, anchor rode install and windlass foot pedal servicing), but might wait until the off season to share them, as I want to get back to the good old fashioned #cruising videos!
      Cheers, Paul.

      Also question, what do you use to clean out your water tank so you won’t have any antifreeze smell in there for the boating season?

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  6 років тому

      In the spring, I just fill and re-fill the freshwater tank and flush the lines. Takes about four tankfuls to rid the lines of the smell.

    Holy cow Paul! I've looked in my engine compt and thought about doing the same thing. However, after watching how much more involved it was than I ever imagined, I'll probably job that one out. Sadly, nobody else will appreciate how much effort went into your new system (well, I will!) but as you said, that should be the last time you have to deal with that.
    I love your videos and I could just listen to you all day. I think I can safely assume the kind of awesome dude you are in person based on your demeanor in your videos.

      The boat in this video was our prior Sea Ray, a '98 330 Dancer, which we sold at the end of season in 2021. In early 2022 we purchased our current Sea Ray - number six for us - a 1998 370 Sundancer! Hopefully you can watch a few of the many videos I've produced from that beautiful vessel - and look forward to seeing how nice the bilge is gonna look when I'm done my detailing this Spring.
      In the meantime, here was my very first time seeing her in person, as we bought that ship sight unseen - in a different country, 450 miles from home!!

    Hi Paul yet again another great video. But I have a few worries having worked on Poop tanks on boats for years in rental fleets. You have a 2 .5 or 3 inch pump out and a 1 inch vent which will work just ! until your filter slowly get blocked with moisture, damp, or just over fill and your clear hose cannot take the vacuum and it will collapse, then it will suck your tank in, just like the old one. You need proper sanitation hose - it has wire coil inserts and so it cannot be ''sucked flat'' PLUS it does not leak poop stink like normal plastic pipe does over time. I think the other vent pipe outlet that you got with the tank is their get out of jail clause - ''you should have it fitted and open it when pumping out to avoid any vacuum in the tank ''

    Paul, when you replaced the water heater, we’re you able to reuse all of the push fit fitting on the water lines? If so, any issues with leaks? Also, the Kuuma water heater has slightly different water connection locations relative to the Atwood. Did this pose any problem? Thanks and please keep the videos coming!

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  3 роки тому +1

      From what I recall, the only line/fitting I had to replace was the inlet to the tank, as a previous owner had built some sort of discombobulated bypass system that I trashed. Surprisingly, no leaks!
      Hint is that if the Whale push type fittings (similar to Shark Bit fittings) leak, try cutting back about 1/4" of the plastic line and trying it again. Sometimes those fittings can cut into the lines, causing the leaks.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo

      Yes. There is a shroud that goes around the tank, allowing shorty screws to be mounted through it, so long as they aren't long enough to hit the tank itself!

    This is a great video, I need to do the same thing and like the idea of going a little bigger! What did you do about the straps that hold it in place? • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  3 роки тому

      I made new straps by simply buying some straight aluminum pieces from Home Depot and bending them to conform to the tank shape. Only takes a hammer and solid flat surface to make them come around to my way of thinking ;-)
      More upgrade videos coming over the off season, including replacing the troublesome battery charger, adding an auxiliary muffler to the Genny and more, so I hope you'll keep watching!

      The cleaner I used is Castrol Super Clean, available at CTC, HH and more (www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/superclean-degreaser-946-ml-0392965p.html). Been using it for years and it cuts through most dirt. Only caveat is that it's best if rinsed off with water, or gone over with Windex on glossy surfaces. Try it on your car tires to bring them up like new.

    I just watched this video again because I want to replace my tank on my 1999 380 Sundancer. Did Trionic help you with sizing? Thanks.

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  5 років тому

      I was able to find one of their stock sizes which fit perfectly. I also used a Trionic tank when I replaced the poop tank on #Boogaboo IV, our 400 Sedan Bridge (ua-cam.com/video/5OvvvG4Ckqc/v-deo.html) and was able to use one of their stock sizes.
      You'll most likely find that your 380 #Sundancer was factory equipped with the same, small 28 gallon tank from the factory that both of our boats came with. Not sue how much more clearance you'll have in the engine room to go bigger, but I upgraded to a 34 gallon tank on our current 330 Dancer, but was able to squeeze a 50 gallon (!!) tank in the 400 Sedan. I'd suggest going with the biggest you can get in there. I'd suggest that you contact Trionic directly (www.trioniccorp.com) to discuss your options or if there's any other sizes available other than they have listed on their web site. Don't forget to mention my name ;-)
      Let me know how you make out!

    I don't know if you'll respond to a post that is older, but I'll give it a try. I need/want to replace the waste tank on my 330DA. I have the part number from Duracast which supplies to business in quantity but won't supply a single unit. Therefore, I'm wondering if you know what the item # of the Trionic Corp. tank was that you installed here? The OEM tank is 21"L x 18"W x 18"H. I don't see that at the Trionic website. What did you use? Thank you.

      I used a device called SCAD on our last two boats. Initially worked fine, but after awhile not so much.
      If I had to do the job again,I'd go with the standard, drop in the tank style which was factory installed on most boats' tanks in those days. Yes,they can fail, but I'm thinking that they should last a number of good years before needing replacement. Actually,the one on our current 370 still works like a charm 👍
